3-1/4" Hardy Princess Fly Reel First Model. Circa 1953 All Original with Green and Gold Finish Offered is a very good example of a 3-1/4" Hardy Princess fly reel. Hardy introduced the Princess in 1953. When introduced. It was offered in three sizes, 3" 3-1/4" and 3-1/2" And, the reel was finished in green and gold colors. The 3" and this 3-1/4" size would be dropped within a few years as would the green and gold color scheme. These first model Princess reels were further distinguished by being the first reel Hardy offered with its latest'modern' check mechanism- this mechanism featured both springs and pawls together on the same side of the check plate and allowed the reels to be easily set for either right or left hand retrieve. This example is in excellent mechanical condition. Everything work ... moreas it should. The pool spins freely- no wobble and no end play. The check works correctly. The foot is full length. Straight and unaltered. There are no chip or cracks and no signs of any prior repairs or replacements. Cosmetically, the reel is quite good also. There are no scratches or other notable marks. There is a fair bit of finish loss at the insides of the spool plates.
