Although we are not situated on a lake, our location in this scenic area provides unlimited fishing and hunting possibilities. We have a variety of sport fishing available from 14 ... moreor more different wilderness set lakes, where 12' or 14' aluminum boats are stationed. Access via gravel logging roads or marked trails will take you well off the beaten path to scenic lakes in wilderness locations. While you can drive within site of some lakes, others will require a short 5 minute walk or vary in distances up to 1 mile. Adding to the wilderness flavor some locations enable you to portage from one lake to another, into even more remote settings and lakes which receive very minimal fishing.

Many lakes are the lair of the fierce fighting Northern Pike, with fish in the 20 pound class taken every season. Anglers seeking the tasty Whitefish, May and June being the prime time, can make some excellent catches with guests taking fish in excess of 4 pounds. A 30 minute walk from camp will put you on Zola Lake, one of the best speckled trout lakes in the area. While small lures and live bait are widely used for trout, a knowledgeable fly rodder with a good presentation should do well. Wildlife sightings are a common occurrence and it is not unusual to see moose feeding along a far shoreline. If you crave solitude and relish the thought of being the only angler on the lake, far from cottages strewn shorelines, this is what we have to offer.

Small Game The area abounds in both ruffed and spruce grouse and snowshoe hares. Considerable success can be achieved when hunting these species during their peak cycles. Also a variety ... moreof ducks and Canada Geese can be found along the waterways during the fall season.

Bear Hunts

Hunt black bear in the Algoma Kinniwabi wilderness area. All hunting is done from either tree or ground blinds at pre-baited hunting sites. Baited sites are established & maintained well in advance of the season. Hunts are conducted in exclusive areas without competition from other outfitters & the number of hunters taken per week is limited. Fishing can be combined with a 7 day hunt, for maximum enjoyment during your stay at camp. No false guarantees are made, but every effort is put forth to create quality hunting standards and maintain a high success rate. Bear hunting is our business and not a sideline.

For the benefit of hunters not familiar with bear hunting over a bait. Baiting is the only proven method under which a bear can be hunted with maximum success. Hunting over bait is a waiting game which requires long hours of sitting and waiting, quietly, usually from mid-afternoon to late evening. All pre-season baiting is done by me until the hunter arrives. Upon arrival you will be shown an active bait and required to check your own bait or baits for the duration of your hunt. Daily bait checks by hunters are an important part of success. All bait is furnished and hunters must re-bait whenever necessary. Hunters must furnish their own transportation to and from the hunting areas. Although it may not be necessary, in some areas an ATV can be very helpful. (Law requires a helmet) and proof of insurance. All sites are equipped with either a ground or tree blind constructed to make the hunters as comfortable as possible. Complete freezing facilities are supplied at camp for hides and meat.

Ice Fishing and Snowmobiling are popular winter activities during the winter season at Lake of the Woods Resorts. Snow shoeing and cross country skiiing are also outdoor activities. ... moreThe ice often reaches 4 feet deep or more, making those areas on our frozen Lake of the Woods a great place for winter sports activities and family fun winter vacations in Ontario.

Harris Hill Resort is right next to main snowmobiling trails, groomed trails too, that leads from the USA, to Nestor Falls, to Kenora, to different towns in Manitoba and back to the USA again. We are also nearby to "community trails" that lead into the main trails as well as neighbouring towns. Also enjoy snowmobiling on the lake and climbing rock outcroppings plus sight-seeing.

With a variety of fish species within 1 - 4 miles from Harris Hill Resort, it is an opportune area for winter ice fishing enthusiasts. These areas are quite secluded and have low pressure fishing. You won't find miles and miles of ice huts, more like 8 -10, and 3 of them belong to Harris Hill Resort for renting out to our customers, along with warm comfortable house keeping cottage to return to in the evening at our ake of the Woods Resort.

Our one fully winterized cabin (cabin #5 will sleep up to 7 people) can be rented from us, with or without renting a heated ice fishing shack. It is fully house keeping capable, has electric heat as well as LP propane heat, Satellite TV, running water, Wireless Internet, toilet and shower etc.

Ice Fishing on Lake of the Woods is a popular sport especially teamed with snowmobiling and a warm cabin to return to.

Our 10 ' X 16 ' Ice Huts are of Wood & Tin construction with 12 or 14 ice fishing holes, 16' windows on both sides, 10" holes, chairs/seats, light and a wall mounted LP propane heater in them.

With 14 ice fishing holes you can have Seven fishermen with two holes each, or up to as many people as you want ice fishing in this heated ice fishing shack.

During a "good" winter, if there is not too much snow and wind, we can maintain an ice road so that you can drive your trucks right to to the nearby fishing spots. Otherwise you have access to our fishing shacks and private fishing spots with your Snowmobile or your ATV depending on the snow conditions.
