A vintage Lew's Quality Fish Spears Hand Forged fishing spear#3X. I don't know much about this type of item but it appears to be in good used condition although it could use some cleaning. Seems to be a heavy gauge metal but then this is the first one of these I've ever owned or sold. Please take a close look at the pictures to help determine condition. 19th Century Wrought Iron Trident or Large Fish Gig
Up for auction is this 19th century wrought iron trident. I'm not sure exactly what this would have been used for. It's much too large to be an eel spear. Possibly whaling related, possibly for skates or rays. Found in southern Massachussetts, this has a nice even patina an no major flaws. This is entirely hand-wrought, there are extremely well executed laps and blacksmith forge welds apparent on the socket and near the base of the trident. Overall measurements are 16 1/2 inches in total length, with a 6 1/4 inch spread between the tines. I'm offering this with a very low starting point and no reserve. Gig is in good condition, there is rust and corrosion as you would expect from a steel tool used in water. I'm not certain as to how much spring these are suppose to have, but with a good cleaning and some lubrication this thing would be scary. Rare and Odd Set Vintage Antique iron frog/fish/eel Gig and Ice Saw (Harpoon)
Interesting set of vintage fishing paraphernalia consisting of a frog(maybe fish. Maybe eel) gig and a ice saw(maybe) for ice fishing. Very strange pieces unlike most of the antique gigs you see and are obviously handmade for someone's personal use. The gig measures 50 inches long with the gig itself being 6.5 in by 3 inches; the saw is 53 inches long with the blade being 9 inches long. HUGE Sturgeon Ice Spear Steel 5' Long 14-1/2" Spread on 7 Tine Fish Gig Michigan
Estate find from along Lake Erie. Lower Michigan. Possibly homemade. Huge and I mean huge. Tines are 1/2" diameter. Tapered shaft is solid 1" steel. Tine spread is 14-1/2" at the tip. Tine assembly is 15-1/2" long from tip to top. Overall the complete spear including line tie is 5 foot. Cone above tines is filled with lead. One tine is slightly bent and one has point chipped off(as shown) I know shipping is going to be a consideration but when are you ever going to see one of these again. This is a vintage fish spear that has been hand forged by a blacksmith years ago. This item came from the estate of an antique hoarder for 50+ years. The spear has no apparent welding and has been assembled using a metal wedge. It also has a collar over the flat end that is apparently made for attaching a wood handle. There is also a very old stove bolt with a square nut that is attached through a hole on that end. It appears that someone may have painted the item black. But there is evidence of vintage rust under the paint. The tool measures about 24" in total length. This would be a great wall hanger at a lake cabin or a sports bar.
