This 7" diameter aluminum fishing float. Is marked Made in Spain, with the City name Coruna stamped on it along with the Pattend number. A lighthouse image is cast on the top and bottom of the float, referencing to the city of Coruna(translates to column) and the Tower of Hercules lighthouse. The city of Coruna had a aluminum smelting business since 1920. Alcoa Aluminum closed the plant in 2012. This float will make a great addition to your Nautical Collection, it is very hard to come across these in the US. The Tower of Hercules has served as a lighthouse and landmark at the entrance of La Coruña harbour in north-western Spain since the late 1st century A.D. when the Romans built the Farum Brigantium. The Tower. Built on a 57 metre high rock, rises a further 55 metres, of which 34 metres correspond to the Roman masonry and 21 meters ... moreto the restoration directed by architect Eustaquio Giannini in the 18th century, who augmented the Roman core with two octagonal forms. You will need to fasten in numerous places to stretch the net back into shape. The cord is stiff and needs some stretching to get the full measurements. If you just lay out the net it will measure 1 foot short side to side and 1 foot short top to bottom. Just letting everyone know. The pattern measures about 3"X3" squares and the BLACK cord the netting is made with is about 1/8" wide. It is in good used condition and is not like the new stuff everyone is selling. Would be a great piece for decoration or another use! This piece was cut from a huge piece we found. There could be some fading of color here and there. We live on an island in Puget Sound in Washington State. And many years ago, when the salmon were bountiful, a large number of fishing boats would ply the waters off the coasts of Washington, Oregon, and Alaska to seine for salmon. They would use wood fishing floats to buoy the nets, and this is one of those floats. Made of cedar, this float still retains a bit of the white paint it originally had. Nice decor item. DEC21 Vintage Japanese Glass Fishing Float 40" Including Net, Mark
This green/blue float has a 40" circumference including the rope net with a diameter of 12.73" including the net. It has a mark stamped inside the 3 1/2" button seal. There are bubbles in the glass, no seams and no cracks. There is a break in the rope netting and has the usual chipping around the button seal. The first 4 photos were taken outside on a sunny day and photos 5-8 were taken indoors. This was a real working float- it is not a reproduction. A very fine'blue dot' fishing float. There is water inside. see 2nd photo) about a teaspoon, but I am unable to see any crack. There must be a crack, probably around the sealing button, but I can't find it. The blue sealing button measures 1 and 1/2" across at the widest part, the float itself is a 2 and 1/2" float. It is made of hand blown glass. This is a Japanese fishing float that was actually used and has spent its life at sea. It has been picked out of hundreds of beachcombed floats to offer because of its unique qualities and characteristics. Its thick heavy glass contains impurities. Inclusions and bubbles that are intrinsic to the Japanese manufacturing process. It is in good and sound condition with the normal wear one finds on fishing floats that have survived years in the ocean. The float is a pale blue-green color. This float is unique because it has what is called a spindle on its surface. A spindle is where a ... morepiece of hot glass forms a swirl shaped thread on the surface of the float before it cools, leaving a swirl pattern on the surface of the float. It has a little swirled spindle near the top of the float caused by an uneven glass thread. It also has some partial net marks etched into its surface from years at sea and washing on the sand. This float is a rare find because of its UNUSUAL pale blue-green color, many bubbles and inclusions, partial net marks and its spindle that has formed on its surface. While only one shown in the picture. This item is a group of 3 fishing net floats/ buoys that drifted in from the Atlantic Ocean on the shore of Newfoundland. Each are about 5 inches long and 2.25 inch wide but may vary. The color may be black, beige, or grey or some other color or a combination there-of. It is a hard plastic fishing net float that was originally collected while beach combing on Newfoundland's Great Northern Peninsula. There is a hole through the center that is about 1/2 inch in diameter. Each has some wear and tear from actual use in the Atlantic Ocean. Most likely by Newfoundland fishermen, and are in various conditions ranging from good to just fair with gouges from beating on rocks. BLUE glass fishing float / Egg * dark smoky blue
This is for the one deep. Dark, smoky blue,the darkest one in the bunch.Cant tell the color unless held in full light.Disappears in a dark pond. 3 1/2" tall, 3" a cross.No seams.Has a few bubbles. Not many, no marks.The nipple seems to have a leak? It floats with the hole facing down but doesn't take in much water, weird!Th is was bought from a Antique mall in Houston early eighties along with a lot of others.I do stained glass for a living so bought them. This one and a few more I will be listing.I'm keeping the bright ones in my kitchen window! This one has some scratches, Fairly Thick. Wavy glass and guessing vintage or antique. This was bought from a Antique mall in Houston early eighties along with a bunch of others.No clue on age.I do stained glass for a living so bought them.
