It's made from a highly rigid animal skin of some type and smooth like stiff leather. The strap is a different type of leather and is much more brittle than the bag itself. There is no metals on this bag anywhere. Its all natural and clearly hand made. The design is random as far as we can tell with one distinguishing mark on the lapel. The meaning or significance of the mark is unknown. The dimensions are approx. 9 inches across x 8 inches tall x 3 inches wide. This is a wonderful example of a French Hunting Knife Dagger which was manufactured by the famous blade maker"COULAUX KLINDENTHAL" It is mounted with an elegant shaped clipped point blade that measures 7 inches in length by 1 1/8 inches at the widest. The blade reflects good honest wear with surface staining nevertheless continues to boast the fabulous detailed etching on either side. The lovely hoof hilt has survived in outstanding condition. The leather scabbard is very nicely fitted and remains healthy as well with all the stitching still tightly intact. Here's what I know about this guy. The plaque reads: June 1975 Lac La Ronge Canada. Sask. Good Time Fishing Real skin mount. From end of tail to tip of mouth. It's approximately 33" long. Measuring HALF of the body, he would have a girth of 16" plump little guy! This comes with the lure you see hanging from his mouth BUT it is easily removable in case you wanted to place your own lure there. There is thin cracking on the bottom(see photo) doesn't seem to be a major issue. Mounted on a wood(pine? board that measures 36" across. Hanging hardware attached. See photos for all the details.
