For years the waters of Lake Nipissing have provided anglers with hours of challenge and enjoyment. The nature of the waterways in our area with miles of weed beds, rocky shoals and ... moredrop offs prove to be a haven for the 40 various species of fish.

Whether you're child is happy angling for perch or other panfish, or an avid angler battling the mighty musky of Northern Ontario we're sure you'll leave greatly satisfied. The water of our area contain such species as walleye (yellow pickerel), blue pickerel, sauger, musky, northern pike, small and largemouth bass, garpike, whitefish, perch and numerous pan fish etc.

That special spot is not that far away and will provide hours of fishing satisfaction not to mention the fabulous taste of outdoor cooking whether at one of the numerous shoreline sites or right back at your cottage fire pit.

Fishing: Camp Store: For that one special lure or that extra snack to make the fishing complete, we offer a well stocked camp store. Canadian fishing licenses are sold here and can ... morebe purchased on arrival.

Equipment:

The Thunderbird fleet includes 25 h.p. outboard motors and 16' boats. A Limited # of Upgraded Boats (with 40hp motors) also available. Our motors are checked daily to ensure proper operation. The boats are deep "V" type to ensure stability: important if fishing with children or in choppy water. Seat cushions are available.

Marina:

We offer a complete marina with plenty of beach and several piers for boat docking. In addition, we offer outboard motor fuel and oil, bait and cleaning services. Fast freezing service is also available so your catch arrives at home ready to prepare. Boat launching is available at the resort.

Suggested Equipment to Bring:

We suggest that you bring your clothes based on the season. Spring and fall fishing require warm clothes. Snowmobile suits and boots make the ride across the water comfortable. Bring your personal gear, toilet kit, medication and good rain gear. Be sure to pack your camera and extra film; there is plenty of wildlife on the lake and you will want to capture the one that didn't get away. All fishermen will need a wearable life jacket.

Fishing Equipment:

I recommend a good medium action pole for walleyes, with a spinning reel. If you plan to do some northern fishing, however, a good bait casting rig is advised. I also recommend 10 to 15 lb. test line for walleye and 15 to 25 lb. test for northern fishing.

Bait:

Walleye fishing is generally done with a spinner or jig and live bait. I have available at the camp, minnows, nightcrawlers or leeches, all of which work well depending on your fishing preference. Northern fishing is generally done using artificial lures. Bright colours, such as orange and red are the best. I recommend you bring along an assortment of daredevils, spoons and plugs which you like to fish.

At Shooting Star Camp we offer our guest a variety of fishing opportunities and experiences that will make every trip an enjoyable one. Whether you prefer golden walleye, hard hitting ... morenortherns, acrobatic smallmouth or deep water lakers, we have something for everyone.

Our remoteness and the quality of our area ensures that our fishing is definitely above average. The Spanish River is a fisherman's paradise. Its dark waters, deep pockets, weed growth and mud flats provide ideal habitat and unlimited fishing opportunities.

Our lakes many of which have less fisherman per season than some lakes in a weekend continue to provide our guests with memorable thrills as well as mouth watering fish dinners.

If uncrowded waters, hungry fish, soaring eagles and good times are what you're looking for, we invite you to join us.

This season we invite you to DOUBLE your enjoyment and fishing pleasure while visiting Shooting Star Camp. Think back to past years how the possibility mid week to try something completely different, whether an entirely new species of fish or location would have provided not only new and exciting opportunities but resulted in that trip being one of your most memorable.

Often with many of our guest we hear that the most difficult part of their trip is in deciding which outpost to choose. Many of our customers return to the same site year after year, reluctant to give up the good fishing they have become accustom to, however they remain curious and desire the opportunity’s to experience some our other sites. In recognition of this we are pleased and excited to offer this season the opportunity to fish two entirely separate outpost locations during the same trip.

The Double your fishing fun package will provide the opportunity to experience quality walleye and northern pike fishing during one half of your stay and outstanding smallmouth combined with Lake trout for the other half. We wish to emphasize that not only will you enjoy double the fishing but each location offers in addition an entirely separate and unique visual experience. The 7 day trips will begin on Saturday, camp relocation will be on Tuesday [mid trip] and departure on Friday, there is also an option for a 9 day trip as well. For those interested we encourage you to inquire early into this opportunity as availability is limited and undoubtedly this package will be extremely popular.

Lake Nipissing is rated as one of the top ten walleye lakes in Ontario as well as one of the best pike lakes in the province and one of the best kept secrets in Northern Ontario for ... morebass fishing. Muskie fishing is excellent and catching jumbo perch and other pan fish is great fun as well.
Lake Nipissing is a unique lake because of its shallow average depth. Thorough mixing by wind keeps the oxygen content of waters high. This in combination with extensive nutrient enrichment results in a highly productive fishery.

Promised Land Camp is located on Lake Nipissing's beautiful South Shore, the largest protected fishing area on the lake, featuring numerous islands, bays, sunken weed beds, rocky shoals, sunken islands and deep channels. Truly a fisherman's paradise.

We show you fishing hot spots, explain fishing techniques and provide hydrographic maps, fresh bait, tackle and ice. When you return to Promised Land with your catch, you will find an enclosed fish cleaning station with freezer and we will be pleased to show you how to clean Lake Nipissing's walleye, northern pike, bass or perch.
