We are a small camp located on Big Pine Lake, which is between Chapleau and Wawa, Ontario. We specialize in Outstanding Walleye Fishing andNorthern Pike Fishing as well as Black Bear ... moreHunting,Wolf Hunting, Grouse Hunting, and Moose Hunting.

Fishing:
Big Pine Lake is a remote lake with no settlement so it receives very little fishing pressure. Big Pine Lake is a labyrinth of bays and islands with many diverse structures that hold good populations of fish and allow them to proliferate in great numbers. As a result, our guests enjoy outstanding Walleye Fishing with good eating sizes right up to unusually large trophies with some over 10 pounds. We also have perfect structure for Northern Pike. Pike are common in the 3 to 6-pound range but guests who specifically fish for Pike usually pick up a couple over 40 inches with many in the high 40s. There are also other lakes and streams near the camp where you can get easy access to outstanding Smallmouth Bass, Brook Trout and Lake Trout fishing.

Hunting:

The Chapleau area is well known for being the best area for Black Bear Hunting in Canada. There is actually an over-population of Black Bears in Ontario and guests are enjoying an unusually high success rate. There is also a high population of Moose in the area. Logging has opened up new grasslands, which allows the Moose to feed on their favorite food and grow in numbers as well as get big. Wolf hunting and Grouse hunting packages are also available.

Family:

We also rent our cottages to families who just want to spend their vacation on a lake and have many activities such as swimming, boating, hiking, Blue Berry picking, wildlife viewing and much more.

Welcome to Garden Island Lodge on Lady Evelyn Lake In the heart of Ontario's vast northern wilderness is a very special lake, which we are proud to introduce to you. Lady Evelyn Lake ... moreis beautiful with pristine shoreline, towering trees, photographic outcroppings of Canadian Shield rock and big water, which is dotted with many islands. It's also famous for unusually large Trophy Walleye, aggressive Northern Pike and Feisty Smallmouth Bass. On an island in the most remote area of the lake is Garden Island Lodge.

Fishing:

Lady Evelyn Lake is stuffed with hard fighting Northern Pike and acrobatic Smallmouth Bass. There are also well-cleared portages where you can easily reach lakes with Lake Trout as well as streams with Brook Trout.

Garden Island Lodge's true claim-to-fame is the unusually high population of Giant Trophy Walleye. You can catch lots of good eating size Walleyes for shore lunch or breakfast but your focus should be set on size. There is a good chance that you may catch the biggest Walleye of your life. Lady Evelyn Lake is one of the top Walleye Lakes in Canada for a mix of numbers and trophy size Walleye. No other lake in Ontario consistently produces Walleyes over 30 inches. We even had a guest catch a 36-inch Walleye that weighed an astonishing 18.5 pounds. Lady Evely Lake is a Walleye Fisherperson's dream come true.

The Lodge:

Garden Island Lodge is a full-service American Plan lodge featuring cozy warm cabins and fabulous home-cooked meals, which are meticulously prepared in our charming and inviting main lodge. Complete comfort and superb service from our friendly staff is the framework for a soul-soothing wilderness experience that you will never forget. Both ladies and gentleman will find themselves feeling at home in our relaxing yet exciting atmosphere. Complete comfort and fantastic fishing is the best of both worlds and is what made Garden Island Lodge one of the highest rated fishing lodges in Northern Ontario.

There is no road access to Lady Evelyn Lake. The only way to reach our remote island is fly-in by floatplane or by boat. This remoteness is a gift, which has kept the fishing fantastic and the lake unaffected by the outside world.

All lakes surrounding our camp are totally uninhabited with great fishing. These lakes are feeder lakes for Lake Nipigon with two lakes, Upper Roslyn and Georgia, being fish sanctuaries ... moreand the water is connected to the feeder system. All of the lakes connect and the water runs out of the Sturgeon River at the north end of Gathering Lake where our camp is situated. Many trophy walleye come out of Gathering Lake yearly. To reach some of these lakes, we have 14 ft. and 16 ft. boats, trailer mounted. All you need is a 2" ball. Any two-wheel drive vehicle is sufficient.

You will be staying in fully equipped house-keeping cabins, all have showers and toilets, full size refrigerators, stoves with ovens, all dishes, pots and pans, etc. Also, all bedding and pillows are supplied, just bring a sleeping bag.

A new modern fish cleaning building is in operation with hot and cold running water and is very comfortable to prepare your catch with plenty of freezer space.

Live bait is available on site.

Family pets are welcome

Our camp is drive-in, although quite remote. If you are looking for something different and a new adventure to fish several lakes on your holiday, this just could be what you have been looking for.

We now have Moose Tags available as well as Fly-in Fishing Trips!

Northern Ontario has a bear population nearing 150,000 and growing. Our camp is located in the midst of approximately two million acres of exclusive Bear Management area. We recently received a large new non-hunted area attached to our existing area. We are one of very few camps where our bear area is in one large block, not like some camps where you have to drive many miles to get to various areas.

We have hundreds of miles of logging roads to hunt. We start with approximately 300 bait sites. We design the hunt and which of these will be used based on the number of hits, activity in the area, weather, etc… By the time you get to camp, we have spent hundreds of hours determining which stands will be used that week. This is why we have a worldwide reputation for big bear. We have the area, look for the signs, and when the time is right, move you in for the hunt. A target area with elevated stands is available for rifle and bow sighting.

The majority of Northern Pike caught in the lake are between 20 and 35 inches. Lake Mattagami is also a rocky Canadian Shield Lake with many rocky points and shoals. Welcome to Grey Owl Camps, located on the shores of beautiful Biscotasi Lake in Northern Ontario. Our operation is delightfully different. Drive-in, then boat-out, to one of seven ... more, separate outpost cabins, each in its own private location situated miles apart from one another.

Why spend hours travelling through the scenic Canadian wilderness only to arrive at your destination and find yourself surrounded by other cabins, people, and noise? Or worst yet, stuck in the middle of a town complete with traffic, barking dogs, ringing telephones and blaring train whistles?

With Grey Owl Camps you enjoy complete privacy in the center of Northern Ontario's renowned bush country. Rough it in comfort with fully equipped kitchens (propane appliances and lights), showers or saunas, and spacious living rooms so you can relax after a busy day of fishing, bird watching, or hiking. All pots and pans, dinner ware and cutlery are supplied.

We have great fishing. Biscotasi Lake is a prime walleye lake where northern pike, perch and whitefish also abound. We encourage "catch and consume" fishing. Enjoy the fishing and eat your share while you are up here, but abstain from taking fish home. They won't taste as good after the trip, and you will do your conservation part towards keeping the fishing as good as you found it.

In addition to fishing, we have bird watching (list of species available) and hiking along an old fire tower trail. For those interested in wildlife viewing, the shores of Biscotasi Lake provide ample opportunity to spot beaver, otter, mink, bear and moose as well as an abundance of bird life. Loons are plentiful on our lake and their call is unforgettable. Wild flowers bloom in large numbers. We have flora lists available upon request. Finally, on a clear night the display of stars is spectacular and, if you are really lucky you may catch a glimpse of the awe inspiring Northern Lights shimmering overhead.

The near-by town of Biscotasing - the old haunt of the legendary Grey Owl himself, offers some interesting sites as well as a brisk walking tour. Services are still held every summer in the near century old Anglican Church.
