These appear to have never been worn. There is a slight discoloration of the felt bottoms. But that appears to be from wherever these were stored, not from wear. Interiors and uppers do not show any wear marks at all. Measures 4 1/8 inch across at the ball of the foot and 11 1/4 inches from tip of toe to back of heel. Uniroyal Keenfisher waders, UK size 9 (EUR 43)
Up for auction is one of my occasional country sports joblot specials. This lot comprises a pair of Uniroyal"Keenfisher" waders. UK size 9(EUR 43) with their studded and stitched soles and heels. Dating from the early 1980s. They were made in this form by the Dumfries factory between the early 1970s right up to about 2002(when the colour changed to a darker olive green and the rubber was produced in a rough matt finish) with internal boot straps that allowed you to wear them folded at half-height, Cavalier-style. This pair has the earlier press-studs for the straps. The badge is also the last Uniroyal iteration before giving way to Gates. Keenfishers were top-of-the-range waders and. Uniquely, were the only ones in the Uniroyal/Gates/Hunter range that had repairable soles and heels. Even so, very few ever became badly-worn down ... moremainly because the presence of the studs helped prevent this. This pair have been fairly well-used. As can be seen from the photos, but have survived quite well, and are still wearable. Even if you're not an angler/ fisherman, they would still be suitable for conservation work, or all those muddy outdoor tasks that tend to need doing sooner or later. You could probably still use them to negotiate the ongoing floods we seem to having in certain regions! They are well worth having for those"just-in-case" situations. You will of course know that the current Hunter brand(now owned by the US-based Searchlight Capital Partners) has steadily abandoned its original country sports customers since 2006 in favour of becoming an overpriced(and cheaply-made in China) designer label. So will never make waders ever again. Please note: they have been in storage for some considerable time. They would benefit from cleaning up with a rubber care spray which you can get from stockists of Le Chameau or Hunter. the upper rear seams(towards the tops of the thighs) may be showing signs of hardening and.
