Vintage Fly Casting Fishing Rod Bamboo Antique 4 Piece
Antique bamboo fly fishing rod in four pieces. Handle is 36.5" long. Middle is also and both tips are as well. No markings on it. Old cylindrical felt covered holder for the four pieces. Rod is likely 70 years old or so. A couple guide eyes have loosening threads. Rod is unusual in that there are many thread wrappings in between eyes. I see no cracks nor breaks. VINTAGE HEDDON #10 SPLIT BAMBOO FLY FISHING ROD & SOUTH BEND REEL
VINTAGE HEDDON#10 SPLIT BAMBOO FLY FISHING ROD& SOUTH BEND REEL This auction is for a vintage custom refinished three piece refinished Heddon#10 split bamboo fly rod with a single action South bend fly reel. The rod measures 8’ 9” when assembled. There is a Heddon inscription and a#10– 9’ 2 ½ F HCH or D inscription and a patent number on the reel seat(see pictures) The bottom and mid sections measure 36 ½” and the tip section is 33 ½” I would estimate it would match with a modern day five weight fly line based on the taper and casting action of the rod. The 6 ¾” cork handle has a couple of chips but is fully functional. The marbleized reel seat has a hairline crack however it fully mounts the fly reel as the pictures indicate. There are three snake eye guides on the mid and tips sections which have been professionally ... morerewrapped. There is a stripper guide/hook keeper on the bottom section. The rod fits together perfectly when assembled. Has the distinct pop sound when removed and is straight. The South bend reel is in good fully functional condition. It is loaded with fly line. The button for click or smooth retrieve is not operational. It works in smooth mode only. I meticulously stripped the old varnish. Refinished with four coats of spar varnish and completed it with high quality wood rubbing compounds. The ferrules have been buffed and polished. The brownstone colored bamboo cane and varnish finish are gorgeous. This classic Heddon rod and would be a treasured wand on any stream or river and comes complete with a South bend reel. Hardy the Palakona#5 6'8" 2/2 fly rod. In amazing condition- I have taken lots of photos so you can look. Cork is great and only slightly soiled. wraps are perfect. Ferrules fit tight and snug. Blueing still perfect, varnish perfect. The rod is dead straight. Perfect clear agate stripping guide. Original tube with label(which has aged a bit) Only problem is a slight tear in the original bag at the bottom- size of the female ferrule. I can email more photos(of the bag and tube. But I am limited to 12 photos here) D/L on the script. This is a very hard to find rod that is almost impossible to find in a 2/2 configuration and in anywhere near this condition. Whilst rated for a#5. I enjoyed it with a#4. Casts very nicely in close, but can throw amazing tight loops at 40 feet- simply one of the best dry fly bamboo rods out there. South Bend Model 51 - 9' - 2 Piece Bamboo Fly Rod - Early 1930's Vintage!!
I have never seen this model before. As I understand. It was built in the early 1930's when Wes Jordan had just set up the bamboo rod building operation for South Bend. This model reminds me of the Cross built rods he built right after coming to South Bend. This 9' rod is designated as a 7 weight rod but could throw a 5 to 6 weight line on small streams. The bag is original and in very nice condition. The tube is in good condition but is missing the cap. I have submitted pictures for the antiquerodandreels web sight as the rod is so unique and the person who manages the sight contacted me for their submission! All the hardware is original and in very nice condition. The hardware is blued and the ferrules pop nicely when pulled apart! As with all my vintage bamboo fly rods. F.E. Thomas Special 9' Bamboo / Cane Fly Rod 1920's
This is a great example of a F.E. Thomas Special 9' Fly Rod in fishable condition. Included is the original cloth bag and Tip Tube. The Tip Tube is as rare and collectable as the rod itself! The rod was repaired and reconditioned by the Thomas Rod Co. a few months back. Below is the email correspondence with Thomas concerning the repair/recondition: Hello. Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. I did receive the rod. And have found the following: The rod is originally a 9’ rod. When it was new. All sections were exactly the same length. Both tips are short. Having been broken and repaired in the past. 1 tip has a compound fracture. And the ferrule wrap needs to be re-wrapped. The fracture would be re-set and re-glued in its original position. After the glue has dried. The tip would be sanded around the repair, and a clear protective ... morewrap would be wrapped over the entire repair. Once repaired. The tip should be fishable again, but there is no guarantee of that, because there may be a glue failure on either side that can’t be seen. The 2nd tip is fine as is. Other than needing to be cleaned/polished. The mid section is missing 1 guide. And needs 2 additional guides to be re-wrapped, as well as some missing intermediate wraps. The butt section is missing 1 guide and also needs the missing hook keeper to be replaced and re-wrapped. The rod is probably worth $100-$200 as-is. The mentioned repairs would cost $150. And I would estimate the value after repair to be $400-$500. The work would not be able to be done until some time in late fall. This is an 8'6" 3 piece- 2 tip F. E. Thomas Special bamboo rod for a 6 weight line. The rod is in excellent refinished condition. The rod was beautifully refinished when I purchased it several years ago. And has only been fished a few times since. Rod weighs 4.5 ounces with 17/11 ferrules. I like it best with a WF6 line. Pre-1937 rod marked 31 inside 3 concentric circles on bottom of butt cap. Correct. Legible die stamp marking on butt cap. English twist guides with agate stripper. Tight fitting ferrules that pop nicely on separation. Grip and seat are excellent with no issues. Correct tube with nearly complete label. Tube has one ventilation hold drilled in cap and 4 holes drilled in the bottom. Original bag will be included. But shows wear and repairs. Vintage Granger Favorite Bamboo Fly Rod with two tips. Cloth bag and tube. This rod has been fished and is in good condition for refurbishing or restore. The cork handle was cleaned with Dawn soap and cold h2o. to clean the dirt from fishing use. The Bamboo is sound and straight- no warping. The Ferrules, Line Guides and wrappings are original with no apparent repair. One Ferrule is lose as stated above. The Rod has a fly guide holder. The cork is damaged from hook placement near the reel seat. The cloth bag has 2 small tears from ferrule rubbing. The metal rod seat has a small dent that doesn't affect the use of the rod seat. One short tip appears to be a replacement from another rod as the guides do not line up with the other tip. Granger Favorite is written in black ink on the bamboo near the hook guide. Superb 1939-1948 HEDDON#10 Blue Waters 9' Split Bamboo Fly Rod with original cloth bag and metal tube. Heddon's first involvement with rod making was in the manufacture of bait rods back around 1911. The first Heddon Fly Rod was introduced in 1924. It was made in one grade only"the finest" and sold for $35. It was appropriately called the No. 35 for that reason. With the introduction of the fly rods. Heddon began using its famous brown-toned Tempered Cane. Heddon not only made rods for their own catalog. But supplied many other companies with rods to sell under their private label. Among the more common sellers of Heddon- made rods were Shakespeare, Weber, E. K. Tryon(Jay Harvey Rods& Kingfisher Rods) and Lyon& Coulson.

There is Kiraku decal and an Expert inscription. The rod can be used as a three piece 9’ fly rod(with extra tip section) or a two piece 6’ casting rod. All sections measure 36” I would estimate the fly line weight at a five. The 6 ¼” cork handle is in great condition and the screw up lock reel seat is also in good shape and fully functional. There are three snake eye guides on the fly rod mid section and four on each tip. The casting section has three guides. There is also a stripper guide on the bottom section. The rod fits together perfectly when assembled and has the distinct pop sound when removed. FE THOMAS BANGOR ME SPECIAL 9ft Split Bamboo Trout Fly Rod
Back in my younger days I used to restore fly rods like this one. I just do not have the time anymore. But this will be a good project rod for someone. The butt and mid sections each measure 36-1/2" long and are full-length. The tip measures only 32-1/2" long and at first does not appear to be the correct tip for this rod, judging by the wraps. However, the ferrule matches up exactly! Construction is 6-strip split-bamboo with German silver hardware and an agate stripper guide. The butt and mid sections are straight, the tip has a slight bend. All three sections are sound with no dried out glue or separations. The end of the butt cap has a"9" stamped on it, also a small dent. Several of the guides are missing, but these are the usual snake type and easy enough to replace. VTG 9' 6" 3/2 SALMON CASTING BAMBOO FLY ROD RESTORED 20s NICE!
Up for bids is a very nicely refinished 9' 6" 3/2 BAMBOO SALMON/CASTING ROD. This type of rod was quite prevalent in the early bamboo rod era from 1890- 1920 as illustrated and discussed in Rod Crafting by Jeffrey L. Hutton. Given the guides this one has. It is most likely from 1910-1920. Earlier rods had handmade ring. Trumpet or bell guides. This one carries the snake and agate lined guides so most likely leaning more toward being built nearer 1920. None the less a very nice classic vintage rod. The longer ferrules were also used during this time- and with visible pins. There are no markings to be found. I am not that knowledgeable on the intricacies of the old hardware- only what I can get from Hutton's book. The mid-section does have mild set. Others pretty darn straight. One tip is probably original and the other looks vintage ... morebut newer. The rod sections all equal measure@ 39" I did observe a couple of small run marks from the varnish on the butt section upon close inspection. Please view pics carefully and bid accordingly. I would guess the rod to be an#8- 9 weight rod. Have included a new 9' sock for protection. Also found a vintage aluminum tube to protect such a fine rod. I had to steel a cap from a shorter Peerless tube and it was very tight going on. Threads did not quite match but it is very tight and can stay that way! The other end has the proper threaded cap and it can be removed easily to access rod in the tube. Buyer can adjust to this. This would be a dandy rod for steelhead. Salmon, stripers or other medium sized salt or freshwater game fish. This style rod was also used frequently for trolling according to Hutton's book. W & M WATER SEAL FA 85 8-1/2' 3/2 IMPREGNATED BAMBOO FLY ROD - EXCELLENT!
Up on the auction block is a Wright& McGill WATERSEAL model FA85 bamboo fly rod. 8-1/2' 3/2. A really sweet 4-5 weight WATERSEAL. With a 18& 12/64" ferrule configuration that is not that common for this model from what I've been told. Rod is in EXCELLENT shape with a beautiful dark honey cane, sound wraps, bright untarnished ferrules and reel seat, and cork that shows minimal wear. Rod and bag are original, with the burgundy bag without any signs of wear and the tube with some finish wear but fine label identification. I've detailed the rod with adequate pictures that should reflect the story of it's above described condition. Overall. This is an excellent example of the later Wright& McGill impregnated rods that would make a fine addition to any collection. E-mail me with any further questions.

This is for a Nice Old Bamboo Fly Rod. It has a Chrome and Black Handle. The eyelets have all been Taped on with red electrical tape and some have been changed and are not correct to this pole. It is about 10 ft 6 inches long. It is still in pretty good condition. The Brass ends all look good. The cork handle is in pretty good condition too. You are bidding on a vintage F.E. Thomas bamboo fly rod. It is probably a 4wt. or 5 wt. It is exactly 8' 6" All sections are exactly the same length. I believe it has been refinished. At some point, to near perfection. It comes with its original rod sack, which is also in excellent condition. Its brass-capped aluminum rod tube is in good condition; the Thomas rod company emblem(decal) has some"chipping. There is not so much the slightest hint of"set" in this rod. Take care of this rod. Early Kingfisher 4-PC fly rod with screw top bamboo holder for 2 rod tips. Rod is round not split bamboo but some kind of wood like lancewood greenheart etc. when 3-PC rod is put together measures 9ft. All 4 pieces are same length and all guides. Tips and ferrules are intact. The only issue with this rod is thread, all guides and ferrule threads are intact and tight it is the colored decorative threads that have issues, some are missing and some are coming apart. Otherwise the overall condition of this rod is very good. Very nice collectible piece.

Heddon Premiere #115 9'-2 3/4 F Split bamboo Fly Rod
To be honest I do not know anything about fly rods. This fly rod was my grandfathers fishing pole and was given to me after his passing. I've had it stored for more then 15 years in a climate control gun safe. The bamboo is in excellent shape with no cracking or splintering. The cork handle has some minor wear and tear(casual scarring and dings from use)but is in overall excellent condition. I believe there are a few eyes missing but again im not sure it even came with the eyes in those spots. This listing comes with the fly rod and original tube. Unfortunately I do not have the cloth sheath. Also. You can see that the tube has been dinged up and the label is not perfect, but it is still readable. Thank you and enjoy! This auction is for Five pieces of Bamboo Fly Rod Sections. Fishing Rods, Parts Only& Antique Wood Rod Holder. There are two bamboo rod butts and three bamboo section(missing some guides) I am not certain if any of the sections go with any of the bamboo butts. The longest section is approximately 38. Two of the sections do not fit in this wood rod holder. I combine shipping when I can. Let me know when you are done and I will do my best to combine your items to save you on shipping costs. All 7 individual pieces were found in the same sock in the estate of an elderly outdoorsman. They are all approximately 37 long. I tried to match the rods up by the color of the wrapping on the guides. One of the handle is marked with the Montague decal on both sides. Although it is chipped and a remains of a word that ends in m or n up the rod from the decal on one side. The other rods handle is unmarked. On one of the pieces there is a guide missing and there is one that has been repaired with black tape. There is light corrosion of ... moresome of the shiny metal. Sock has holes and is stained. The photos seem to show that the sections are radically bent. This is not the case but an illusion from the photograph. For restoration or parts.Two rods. 7 sections total for one price.
