Montague Bamboo Deerfield Fly Fishing Rod 8'6" This is a three piece Montague Deerfield fly fishing rod. Rod has two separate tip sections one designed for dry flies and one for wet flies. Four inch nickled brass sliding ring lock fly reel seat. 5 1/4" specie cork cigar shaped grip with stepped style nickled brass winding check. Closed ring style hookeeper. Rod insert stripper guide. Three gun metal snake guides on the mid section and each of the tip sections. Heavier cane tip section has a standard ring gun metal tip section. Second tip section has a red insert tip top. Blade is medium brown with goldenrod and red guide wraps. Bottle style nickled brass ferrules. Hookeeper is a new"old stock" replacement. vintage signed bamboo hand made fly fishing rod 81" long 5.9 oz. Minnesota made
This rod shone out from amongst a bunch of rods that were stacked up for sale at a flea market. I disregarded the rest and asked about this one. I was intrigued by the fact that it is handmade. Signed and beautiful. The person from whom I bought it said that the maker was from St. Cloud, Minnesota and that he was active in the 1950s and 1960s. I could not, however, verify any of this information on the internet. As to the rod itself, it breaks into two sections, measures 81" has six eyelets(that is including the tip) and is of five-sided bamboo construction. It is missing the eyelet just above where the rod sections connect, and I believe that it has a new tip(I say that because I feel as if the tip just doesn't quite line up with the eyelets- but I am a true novice in this area of expertise) The rod looks and feels like a fly rod ... moreand has the correct style of eyelets, but the handle is throwing me off. Any ideas? It weighs 5.9 ounces according to a postal scale I have at home. It is signed, Ronald Kreatz" or"Kreaty" I can't quite tell- please consult the pictures) The rod is functional as is, but could very easily be restored to its former glory by someone with some knowledge of and experience with bamboo rods. This Montague is a 3 piece. 2 tip, 9 foot medium-slow action(probably intended to be a 5 weight, but might fish better as a four weight) bamboo fly rod. The cane is in excellent condition. The ferrules are all well-seated on the cane, in excellent condition, go together nicely and pop sweetly when separated. Most of the wraps are in good condition, but a few have been rewrapped by someone who should get an"A" for effort, and a raspberry for doing it. If I were keeping this rod for myself, I'd strip it to the bare cane and completely rewrap it. Finally, please note that aside from being faded from exposure to the sun, and having a few discolored spots(see photos) the canvas bag is in excellent condition. Vintage 8'6" 3 pc 1T Bamboo fly rod for refinishing lot#23
This is good quality Japanese cane. Probably occupation-era Tonkin, originally made to be a 3 piece one tip 8'6' four or five weight fly rod which converts to a two-piece casting rod. The butt section is(intentionally) six inches shorter than the mid and tip sections. The cane is in excellent condition(according to the date on the butt, refinished in 1985) and the mid and tip ferrules are also excellent- clean, shiny, and they pop nicely when separated; but the female butt ferrule is cracked(see photo#3) The cotton bag is salvageable, but in only fair condition. If I were rebuilding this rod, I'd toss the butt section, and make the mid and tip into a 2-piece, six foot, 4 weight rod. Vtg 7 Foot fly rod, spin rod combo, black lacquer bamboo, exc +++ in orig case
Search This is a vintage fly rod. Spin rod combo. The fly rod is assembled using the handle, the shorter butt section, and four of the six sided, seventeen inch long rod sections, for a total length of 83 inches. The handle is reversed for the spin rod, also uses the short butt section and three of the seventeen inch sections for a total length of 67 inches. The spin rod uses the heavier tip of the two tips provided. The deal on the rod is marked Mayflower with a picture of the ship. I think this rod is from post world war 2 and brought home from Japan but Im not sure. Inside the slide cover are some flies, hooks,leaders etc. This item looks unused to me, no signs of wear except the one chip on the handle. The outside of the box has some rubs and dirt from storage or handling and one of the clasps is missing, as shown. This is a nice looking ... morefishing rod and a good length at 7 feet. Orvis Impregnated Equinox 7' 4 wt Bamboo Fly Rod
I have here an Orvis Impregnated bamboo fly rod. It is marked"Orvis Impregnated" Equinox" 7" 4 wt. It is in great condition and appears to have been refinished. All the windings. Which are burgundy, are in beautiful condition as is the finish. The cork and reel seat show very little signs of any use. There appears to be a repair(visible in photos) between the first and second eye above the ferrule on the tip section. I have cast and fished the rod a few times and it doesn't seem to affect the action or strength of the rod at all. The ferrules are tight and pop when separated. The tube and sleeve do not appear to be original. There are some"use" dings in the tube but they do not cause any concern. The sleeve is very soft and in good condition. Colorado, in about 1919 and by 1920 had formed Goodwin Granger& Co. In 1926 the company was renamed Goodwin Granger Co. The early model Goodwin Rod, Granger Rod, Colorado Special and Denver Special were renamed in 1930 and the new names remained relatively consistent throughout the history of the company. New models such as the Champion and Victory were added later. All models were of consistent high quality with the same nickel silver ferrules and reel seat and the same precise construction. Only the grading of the cane. The style of the windings and the number of guides per section varied between the higher and lower priced models. This is a Vintage/Antique Split Bamboo Fly Rod/Pole from Mayflower that has never been used. In fact it is in what is left of the long wooden box it came it, still has the 3 flies that come with it along with line. This is a great rod for any collector of fly fishing equipement or for the fisherman. This is under 100" when put together. There is also 2 upper sections with the tips that is also with it as well, don't know why, but they are in the half box too, so guess that they should go too. Goodwin Granger 8642 - Bamboo Fly Rod, Slide Band, Refinished.
Granger Champion 8642. The inscription on the reel seat reads"Made By Goodwin Granger Company Denver" on 3 lines. When This rod was restored. The varnish was milted, most ferrules were loose, many wraps were loose or missing, there was an owner added hook keeper that destroyed the inscription. Rod was stripped of the old varnish, one tip a hook dig that was repaired and a clear over wrap added, the ferrules were re-set& polished and re-blued the original guides, re-wrapped the rod and re-varnished it. The reel seat and ferrules have been cleaned and polished. Ferrule fit is good. The reel seat is slightly dented on the bottom and at some point a pin was added to stabilize the reel seat in place. Comes with what I believe is the original draw string bag in fair condition and a wood tip protector. Not a collectors piece but a ... morenice fishable old rod that looks good and has a lot of good years ahead.

Original Condition. Non restored Thomas Chubb premium cane rod circa 1890's Estate sale find from Down East Swansboro North Carolina. Super Old Antique Thomas Chubb Bamboo Can Rod. Rod still sports period T. Chubb star emblem which is in very good condition. Red silk thread is good except for one eyelet were there is a little fraying. Rod has a red(porcelain? insert in the first large eyelet. All of the smaller eyelets swing and fold down. This is a four piece set with 2 end tips of slightly different lengths. Vintage approximately 8' bamboo fishing fly rod pole. The rod has 5 pieces.including three tips. The decal on the rod is worn. But you can see a definite"ARL" on it. See photo. The rod is in very good condition. All the guides are in tact with original windings. It has a yellow cloth bag with"Japan" on it. The bag has some staining. The original cardboard tube says it is from June 6. 1960. It was shipped from Around-the-World Shoppers Club in Canada. Its value at that time is listed as 300 yen. This rod belonged to my grandfather. It was very rarely used. I don't know much more about it.

Vintage Bamboo or Cane Fly Rod, 4 Pcs Including Extra Tip + Formed Case to Hold
You're looking at a nice vintage fly rod measuring just over 8 feet long when fully assembled. It's a 3 piece rod. But there is an extra tip for a total of 4 pieces. It comes in a carrier that is molded to fit each piece exactly. The case was originally lined with felt, but a lot of it has worn off over time. Each piece of the rod has a metal cap that has to be removed to insert the next piece for assembly. The rod has no identifying marks on it whatsoever. So I can't say who the maker was, but it seems like it would still be quite useable. Thanks for looking!

It was made in Norway and is signed by the builder(H'arg å rd) and is numbered(101957) The top section is marked"13" in the same style of writing as the lower section but the guide wraps are a darker green. It features a cork handle. Copper butt cap and reel seat, Agate stripping guide, and both sections fit together smoothly with no gaps. The sliding ring for the reel seat has a 50% split in it but still works fine(and is easily replaced) Secondly. VTG HEDDON #20 Bill Stanley's Favorite 8 1/2' 2F Bamboo Fly Rod **NICE**
Up for auction here is a very nice example of one of the higher end Heddon rods in one of the best all around standard trout tapers that they made. These 8 1/2 2F rods are a blast to cast and are good with 5 and 6 wt lines. I am unsure as to how much it has been restored. But obviously the finish is great and all of the script is intact. If it has been refinished, it is definitely considered a good thing because about 90% of the Heddons were plagued with varnish that did not stand up to the test of time. The ferrules have a good fit and there are no clicks on this full length rod- another rarity with these rods because many of the mid sections broke at the ferrule if they were not re-set at some point. This rod is ready to go with original sock, tube and Heddon cap. The only minor things that I can find on this rod is that there are a few ... moreridges on the thumb rest part of the grip and some of the bluing has worn off of the reel seat hardware. Shipping is $12.50 to the lower 48.I just noticed that one of the tips has a repair wrap on the last 6" I do not do know why it is there because I cannot see any flaws beneath it and it is most likely just for reinforcement. That would also show that it most likely has been refinished. It is completely solid and appears that it would not have any problems casting as well as the clean tip. Vintage Split Bamboo Fly Rod Marked Jay Harvey 6 Pc. 8.5' w/Metal Carrying Tube. This rod butt and 2 tip match. Have the same wrapping sections and the tips are wrapped The seat is embossed Jay Harvey in the seat a hook eye is intact. The mid section does not match the rod. Has one eye missing and will not set in the butt ferrule. The midsection has red wrapping but not the same red as the butt and tips. The butt section the eye is red agate and part of the wrapping has been redone. There are 2 tips that go with the rod butt in really nice shape. They are the tips you see with the metal case. The other two tips are the same as the midsection with both tips missing an eye. They are also hexagon as the rest of the rod and the tips have been wrapped. One eye on one tip has been replaced. Vintage South Bend Split Bamboo No. 77 8.5 ft. Fly Rod w/South Bend Canvas Sock
Vintage South Bend Split Bamboo No. 77 8.5 ft. w/South Bend Canvas Sock. Stamped in the reel seat is South Bend logo and there is a label on the rod for South Bend and marked in black is 77-8 1/2' The hook eye is nicely intact and it has a red agate eye ferrule is good 34 3/4" long. Mid-section is missing one eye and the bottom ferrule looks to have been reapplied section is 33 1/2" long. Please see the photos. Tips are all intact with all the eyes and ferrules wrapping nice and tight. The mid section does not fit well with the bottom very tight. The tips all fit into the midsection though tight. The sock has a tag on it from South Bend split bamboo made in USA No.77& 8 1/2' There is a chrome carrying case for the 2 tips and it is missing the cap. There is a green smaller sock the fits in the tube. Please check the photos.

Vintage Split Bamboo Hexagon 9ft Bassmaster Fly Rod w/Cork Handle& Plastic Seat. Butt has marbleized plastic seat with brass fittings. The fitting has stamped on it Pat. No. 1624052. Hexagon rod has in black writing"Bassmaster" and hook eye and one guide eye with intact ferrule. There is some sort of black wrapping on two places. The butt rod is solid I don't see any crack or splits in the bamboo. This butt section is 36 1/2" long. The mid-section 36 1/2" long and missing all 3 eyes. There is tape or varnish and a light red wrapping on the rod which looks like an eye was wrapped there. Ferrules are intact and fits both the butt and the tip well. The tip is 36 1/2" long with all of it's eyes. Tip and ferrule. The varnish has scaled on all three sections. The sock in the photos is not with this rod. "TOKYO" JAPANESE SPLIT BAMBOO FLY/SPINNING ROD
Cosmetically this rod is in just about very good condition but given that it was made in postwar Japan it may not be a rod to actually fish with. Rather it is a nice display item. This is made in the style of being used either as a fly rod or a spinning rod. There are four pieces, the butt section, the mid section and then two slightly different end sections. There are a couple pieces of cork missing from the grip which could be replaced if desired. The important thing is that all of the bamboo is intact, the finish mostly decent and even the original Tokyo label is almost complete. US shipping $8.

And it was old at that time. I have refinished the rod by replace all the snake guides, the guide wrappings, cleaned the cork grip and varnished the entire rod. The rod is not perfectly straight, but for a vintage split bamboo rod, it's pretty good. It has very good action for a vintage rod. The manufacturer is unknown and there are no identifying markings either on the rod or rod handle. It's quite a beautiful split bamboo rod and functional, too. It also comes with a cloth case especially made for this rod.

It is made of bamboo, One of the eyes, the first, may not be original, it is different than the others, Cork covered handle. some corrosion and ware. The storage container is in poor condition. This auction is for a vintage three piece 9’ Montaue Rapidan split bamboo fly rod with early 1900’s made in USA fly reel. There is a partial Montague Rapidan decal and a Genuine Tonkin Cane inscription. The bottom and mid sections measure 37” and the tip is 36” I would estimate the fly line to be a solid six weight. The seven inch cork handle and screw down lock reel seat are in very good functional condition. There are three snake eye guides on the mid section and four on the tip section. There is a stripper guide on the bottom section which has been professionally rewrapped. The rod fits together perfectly when assembled and has the distinct pop sound when removed. There is a slight natural set in the tip sections ... morewhich will not affect the casting or use of the rod. The reel is also in good working order and has a button for smooth or click retrieve. Nat Uslan Jim Deren Model Bamboo Fly Rod, pentagonal, exc. original condition
Nat Uslan was famous for his five sided(pentagonal) bamboo rods. This one was made for Jim Deren's Angler's Roost. The renowned little fly shop in midtown Manhattan. This is Uslan's 8014, 8 foot rod, size 14 ferrule. The rod is completely original, as best as I can determine. I have owned it for a long time. I am intrigued by Uslan's penta concept and I have an affinity for Jim Deren. I spent many many lunch hours in that cramped little shop back in the'70s. This rod appears to have been made earlier than that, maybe in the'50s judging by the small diameter strip guide in vogue then. It is impregnated and the wraps are tight and original with no flaking varnish. The cork grip and reel seat show some ridging from age. the ferrules are Super Z's without the stamp. They are exactly the same as the ones with the logo ... morestamping, and were certainly made by"the ladies" that Louis Fierebrand employed to assemble ferrules. Nothing is polished out, it remains in completely original condition in what I assume is the original tube and bag. The tips have a very slight set from sitting in the tube. That's the way I got it. Probably in the 1920s or 1930s. The rod is marked"South Bend" and"E or H D H" and also"290- 7 1/2" The case has the original paper label that indicates it is model 290. The rod is 80" long, the handle is an additional 10" long; the rod butt end is 7/16" diameter and it tapers down to 1/16" at the tip. The rod weighs 4.4 ounces and the rod and case together weigh 1 pound 4 ounces. Condition: Excellent used condition with some wear to the case. Immaculate Granger Victory 9050 Bamboo Fly Rod 3/2-Near Mint
Just in time for fall fly fishing. Or maybe filling a void in your rod collection, this Wright McGill era Granger Victory is in amazing condition. The butt of the rod is the only place there is any indication of use where there are a few scratches that have broken the surface of the varnish of this otherwise pristine rod. The bag has one water stain at the top but otherwise looks like it just came off the sewing machine. Tube is great condition with just a little of the blacking missing here and there and one tape mark that I saw. I think you would have to look hard to find a nicer one. I started to put the rod together, but the ferrules seemed a little tight, probably need polishing, so I decided not to mate the pieces. It's obvious that this rod has not been used more than once or twice. It's a solid 9.5 out of ten. Don't forget ... moreto bid! Thanks for looking.

You are bidding on a vintage fly fishing box with split bamboo sections. measures 34" x 3" x 2-1/2" The handle section is in pretty rough shape(see photos) The middle section and the two identical rod tips sections are like new(go figure) The hidden sliding panels reveal some very nice old flies. Vintage Montague Redwing 8 1/2 Foot Bamboo Fly Rod
Montague Redwing 8 1/2 foot split bamboo fly rod. In the original case no sleeve. This rod could use your help. It is an estate find that was apparently put away wet. The sleeve rotted and this is what we have. One tip section is a fraction short is split and has been re tipped. The reel seat has corrosion and is split and a guide is off. That is the worst of it. The rest looks OK and restorable.
