VINTAGE VICKI SPLIT BAMBOO FISHING FLY ROD 8 FT JAPAN

VINTAGE ORVIS 8' BATTENKILL 2/2 BAMBOO FLY ROD S/N30962 & TUBE SOCK TAG BOX
This auction is for a vintage Orvis Battenkill 8’Bamboo 2/2 Fly Rod Configuration that includes extra Tippet section with original Rod Sleeve/Sock. Rod Tube, original 8-page Orvis Hand Tag Rod Booklet and original Triangular Cardboard Shipping Tube including approximately 50% of the original Orvis Paper Shipping Label. The 2/2 HCH 4 ¼ oz. Bamboo Fly rod was built 11/6/61 by Orvis rod builders Calvin Skinner and George Reid working with Wes Jordan who ran the Orvis Company at that time until 1970. The bamboo rod comes with the extra tippet section, all three sections are of equal length with no sets and have S/N 30962 detailed on bamboo adjacent to ferrules, butt section is detailed with“Orvis Impregnated Battenkill” above hook keeper eyelet(SEE PIC) all line guides are complete, red/maroon wraps are tight, ferrules in great shape and ... morerod itself is in excellent shape and well taken care of. The tube label has all the pertinent rod specs and Orvis recommends fishing with a double tapered 6 wgt. Fly Line. Cosmetically, the rod looks great but is not perfect. There are a series of small dings dents on an edge where two bamboo flats intersect just adjacent to butt sections grey agate line guide that have what looks to be tape around them(SEE PIC) These are basically the only distressed marks on the rod plus the normal discoloration/wear of the cork handle and a few worn letters on the word Impregnated(SEE PIC) The green rod sleeve in excellent shape as well as the metal tube with the exception of a good sized dent approximately mid way down and the triangular cardboard shipping tube protected by a wax filmed paper is in very good shape especially the paper shipping label. The box does have some water marks and scuffs, scraps and minor tears on waxed outer and the top section of the box may have been forced into the inside bottom but I can’t tell for sure. VINTAGE ANTIQUE BAMBOO FLY FISHING POLE ROD - ESTATE FIND
First let me say that I have never sold a rod like this and I know nothing at all about fly bamboo rods except that this is old and real bamboo. It measures 92" long and comes apart in 3 separate pieces. It does have some issues like light corrosion on the islets and there are 2 small slits or tears in two of the metal bands but I do not think that these affect the function of this neat old pole. Please ask questions if you need to know more or see more photos. This was purchased at an estate sale in Pennsylvania and all of the items in the house and shed were old and original to the house. Nice chance to own and display and maybe use a cool old fishing collectible.

This nice post-war example was built by the Wright& McGill Co. of Denver, Colo. sometime following their purchase of the Goodwin Granger Co. in 1946, until about 1951. The rodshaft is inkstamped"WRIGHT& McGILL" on one flat and"GRANGER SPECIAL" on another, just above the winding check. The reel seat is stamped"PAT. APR. 12, 1938- PAT. NO.2,114,107- MADE BY WRIGHT& McGILL ROD CO. DENVER, COLO. U.S.A. Built with quality Tonkin cane and comes equipped with extra tip section, chromed stripping guide& tip tops, 14) snake guides(four on the mid and five on each tip) high-grade serrated Granger ferrules, n/s winding check, Granger's Patented up-locking reel ... moreseat w/internal threads, reverse half-Wells solid cork grip and wound in either Granger green or Granger gold silk(sometimes, when the original varnish has yellowed, it's hard to tell which color it is) Rod is in solid Fine to Very Fine condition, showing just moderate wear associated with normal use. Classic Horrocks Ibbotson Roosevelt 9' Bamboo Fly Rod Restoration Wood Form Bag
This uncommon rod is sound. All sections the proper length, slight set on the tip section with the standard tip top. The other tip section has an agate tip top. The early trout decal is 100% marked"ROOSEVELT" at the bottom. The shaft is dark flamed cane. Restoration needs: Female ferrule on the butt section needs to be replaced; stripper guide should be rewrapped; mid section is missing a guide; wraps on the standard tip section should be redone; and one guide on the agate tip top section should be redone. The grip and reelseat are very good, The ferrules sound and"popping" tight. This rod comes on a wooden rod frame in a heavy cloth bag, reinforced at the foot. First one of these that I have seen.

Serial#78469. Made in 1976. It is marked Madison on the rod but in the Orvis data base it is a"MCL Flea" This rod was purchased in 1977. Along with a 7 1/2' Madison, by my parents after traveling to Orvis for a fly fishing class put on by Lefty Kreh. The Madison was my fathers and the Flea was my mothers. It has only been fished twice that I know of at a place called Yellow Breeches. It is without question in Like New Condition. I sold the Madison last week and this one goes now. It is absolutely beautiful! I have never seen a MCL Flea sold so I know they are pretty rare. Buy it for the collect ability or to fish. ... morePictures hardly do the rod justice. Vintage Grampus Kiraku & Co. Split Bamboo 8 ft. Fly Rod, 6 In 1 Cast Bait Pole
From what I can tell after a little research this a 6 in 1 rod. You can have an ordinary 8 ft. fly rod. A 6 1/3 ft. fly rod, 8 ft. still rod, 6 1/3 ft. light trolling rod, 5 1/3 ft. bait casting rod, and 1 piece bait casting rod. This is all done by interchanging the different midsections/tips and by turning the handle around to switch from a casting/bait rod to a fly rod. All the parts look to be in good shape and straight. The large round guide in the fourth picture is a little loose and will slide back n forth slightly(this guide is on part of the bait casting/still rod/trolling set up) I believe. All the other guides are tight and the cork handle is in nice shape. My listing seems to come with more pieces than some of the others I've seen, so it's possible some may be extra pieces from an another Kiraku rod? 1937-1941 SOUTH BEND No.357, 8-1/2', 3/2 "Dry Fly" Split Bamboo Fly Rod With The
Up for auction a rather nice 1937-1941 SOUTH BEND No.357"DRY FLY" 8-1/2 FT. 3/2 SPLIT BAMBOO FLY ROD WITH THE ORIGINAL CORRECTLY LABELED BAG& SOUTH BEND ALUMINUM TUBE. The No.357 dry fly version was first introduced in 1937 and would go on to sell through 1953. Because this example carries the oval"South Bend Bait Company- Quality Tackle" logo rodshaft decal(used only before WWII) we know this was built from 1937 to 1941. The rodshaft is also stamped"357- 8-1/2' on an opposite flat. For whatever reason(s) these models with the solid walnut grips(the No.357C was equipped with the cork grip) just don't show up for sale very often. Built with nicely flamed Tonkin cane and comes equipped with extra tip section, Garnix stripping guide, hardened steel snake guides& tip tops, welted chromed ferrules, NPB ... morewinding check, chromed screw-locking reel seat, solid walnut half-Wells grip and wound in what South Bend called"rainbow colored" silk. The 8-1/2 ft. models were rated for HDH or D lines, equivalent to today's modern 6 wt. lines. I've included a photo of the original listing, taken from South Bend's 1939 catalog. Rod is in about Good to Very Good condition for these, showing moderate overall wear. There is a crack through the reel seat, which keeps it from grading higher, even though the reel seat remains solid and in fine working order. Bamboo is perfect, with no splits, cracks or delamination whatsoever. All four sections are the correct equal length and are quite straight. The varnish looks like it could have been replaced some time ago and remains in good condition. Decal and rodshaft markings are pristine. All wraps are solid and complete, with one rewrap on the mid. All guides, tip tops, ferrules(still"pop" and winding check are nice. Solid walnut grip is excellent. Put up in the original bag, which shows heavy overall wear, but is solid and serviceable. Still carries the original early pre-war bag label, which is correctly marked for the rod

Classic Montague 8 1/2' Lake Pleasant Bamboo Fly Fishing Rod 3/1 Restoration.
Here's a rod on which to practice your restoration skills at a reasonable price. This three piece. One tip rod is actually in very good condition. The slide band downlocking reel seat is good, as is the cork grip. The decal is about 60% This rod needs a stripper guide on the butt section and a snake on the tip section. The varnish is decent, the ferrules are properly tight, could use some cosmetic help. Thinking about it, this isn't really a restoration, only minor replacement of parts.

Rod is straight side to side but there is a bit of a droop in the tip. The rod is unmarked as to line weight. Model, length. I'm told by the rods owner that it was purchased from Dave and is a 5 weight. There is no damage or repairs to the rod. Rod comes with aluminum tube and bag pictured. The bag is for a 2 tip rod. The two tips measure approximately 40-1/8" long. So the first two pieces match and the two tips match in length. The rod is in great condition? Very clean! Ferules. Guides and wrap are all tight with no flaws. Nice pop to the ferules when pulling the pieces apart. Cork handle and reel seat are great. The only minor flaw is the silver on the reel seat is tarnished or worn in an area. It comes with a great aluminum marked Champion Cal-Air. this is a very nice new condition rod i cant find any signs of use it comes with original wood case. Classic Kingfisher 8 1/2' Bamboo Fly Fishing Rod 3/1
This rod was made for the Edward K. Tryon Company of Philadelphia by the Montague Rod Company. All three sections are essentially straight. This rod needs some TLC. The downlocking metal reel seat is in good condition. Needs cleaning. There is an agate stripper guide, all of the snake guides and their wraps are in good condition. The varnish on this rod is rough, needs a good rubdown and overcoat. The ferrules are"popping" tight. With a little attention this can be turned into a nice fishing or collectible rod. No bag or tube.

Vintage 7ft 2pc Split Cane Bamboo Fly Rod
This is a 7ft. 2-piece, vintage split cane bamboo fly rod with only one tip. The rod power is approximately a 3-4 weight based on casting a WF4F line. This rod has a nice, slow, classic bamboo action, and bends well into the butt section when casting. This rod is in a very fishable condition, with all original wraps and hardware. The aluminum reel seat is down-locking, and has signs of wear on the bottom, but is in good condition. The cork grip is approximately a cigar shape, and in good condition. The female ferrule on the lower section has the word"SUPER" stamped into it. When the sections are joined, they stay together firmly, and when they are pulled apart the ferrules make a nice snap sound, which indicates a proper fit. Offering for sale a Vintage"17. 2-1/2F, Black Beauty" Split Bamboo Fly Rod by Jas Heddon Sons. This rod is 8-1/2' long. weighs 4-3/4 oz. without locking reel seat) dates to around 1951 and is in great condition. It is a 3-piece rod with an additional tip section, for a total of 4 included sections.The line size designation on the rod indicates HCH or HDH. The butt cap is missing and the original cloth case has a rip in one of the sewn sections. It comes in the original aluminum storage tube with screw-cap. The aluminum tube is a little the worse for wear(scuffs, scratches& stains) but it's not bent& has done its job of protecting the rod for over 60 years. Factory built Hexagraph fly rod in excellent condition. This is a 2 piece 9' rod for 4/5 wt line Tip Flex. Rod comes with original tube pictured. Tip is correct length. Cork shows expected soiling from light use but is sound. Guides and wraps are all good. The blank is clean except for one very small cosmetic blemish on a flat between the stripper guide and fisrt snake. I'm not sure if the is a factory blem in the finish or if it will scrape off. I didn't want to mess with it. This rod is a six sided graphite rod built to resemble bamboo. It is inscribed with the original owners name. Hexagraph on Hexagraph rods. For those of you who are not aware. Challenger rods were completely hand made in the same Denver, Colorado factory as the famous Grangers and Wright& McGills. Yes. the same patented ammonia treated rich caramel colored 3x3 node spacing cane. This is a wonderful piece of Handcrafted American bamboo at a fraction of the cost. Rod comes with 3 sections. Please note this rod is extremely straight when assembled plus ALL of the sections are correct and equal length with NO signs of damage to any cane sections. Overall the varnish is in very nice condition, having a few minor flaws. Silk thread wraps ... moreare complete, tight and appear to be well varnish to seal out moisture. Comes with a divided 3 pocket cloth rod sock which is in nice condition. NO holes in the material but is showing wear marks and stains from years in the tube. Ferrules fit snug and secure having a very nice audible“POP” when broke-down. Cork grip is in extremely nice condition show off is patina from years of service. Reel seat mechanism works wonderful, securing the reel as it should. Also furnished is an aluminum tube and screw cap. Tube and cap have some scratches. Dings and dents but secures the rod safely. Rare Paul Hightower Bamboo fly rod Built on Granger Blanks Flyrod Cane
Where else will you find an 8 foot 4/5 line cane rod for this price? Paul Hightower worked for Bill Phillipson of Phillipson Rods in Denver. As I recall I bought this rod from Bob's Tackle Shop in Denver back before moving to Montana. This is basically the same as a Granger or Wright McGill 8 foot 5 weight(although I like these rods with a 4/5 Wulff Triangle tip) This one is a darned nice 8 foot 3/2 rod that's not had any repairs; full length; straight. Comes with the case Bob's provided and a newly replaced REC cotton bag. I haven't fished this much over the 20 years or so I've owned it(although. As witnessed in the picture, it performed well on a spring creek on the South Island of New Zealand)I left the patina on the reel seat.you can choose to polish it. I know Hightower made some of his rods from Phillipson blanks ... moretoo, due to the tell-tale glue lines, but these are Granger or Wright-McGill blanks and ferrules. A great little rod, with deep caramel color, matching translucent wraps tipped red. Reel not included.just showing that the reel seat works. This is a Vintage Goodwin Grainger"Victory" Bamboo FLy Rod. The rod measures 9 feet and all sections are equal. This is a 3/1 rod. The sections are pretty straight but it could use a new coat of varnish. Some crazing. The is an early Grainger rod that has a reelseat that is a 2nd generation style. If you have Michael Sinclair's book on Grainger it shows and explains it very well. All of the hardware is nickel silver and the ferrules fit perfectly. This is a vintage Granger Aristocrat 9 foot 6 inch 3/2 bamboo fly rod made by Wright& McGill. Denver, Co. I believe it is number 9660. This rod is in very good condition. Two guide wraps are loose, one on a tip and one on the fore section of the mid section. Probably by taking it apart. All the rest of the guides and wraps are in excellent condition. All sections of the rod are 38 1/2 inches, original length and no repairs. All sections are straight with no warps and a bright finish. A few very minor chips or blemishes. The sections fit tight and all ferrules are sound, pop when you take them apart with no cracking or corrosion. Comes with original tube and sock.

1920's Edwards made Skiltons Highgrade bamboo trade rod. Made for Skilton's Fishing Tackle Winsted CT. This is a 8.5" 3/2 full length rod in an often unseen trade name"Skilton's" This was a Conneticut vender that also had a shop in Hartford CT. The Winsted store was a stones throw away fromt the Famous Farmington and Housatonic Rivers know for their outstanding fly fishing. Rod has some loose and missing wraps that could be attended to. Heddon built Weber Handcraft 8.6 3/2 Bamboo fly rod. This rod is all full length and is a great taper built by Heddon. Rod has some dry and missing wraps and guides that need some attention. However. A very good starting point with minimal work can get this on the water soon. I casted it and liked it with a Cortland Peach 5 wt DT, but my father likes it with a 6wf SA.

A 1930's 8.6" 3/2 Paul H. Young Prosperity Fly rod. This is a Edwards built Prosperity that shows signs of PHY's great cork work in the form of a thumb rest. Signature Edwards wooden spacer and hardware. Rod has one tip short about 5 inches. Which is also a different color cane, but appears to be of the same period due to aging of the wraps. Some wraps need to be redone and varnish has chips. Green variated silk wraps with Edwards hardware. Comes with rod bag and tube. But missing cap. Would be a great item to send to Bob Summers to be refinished.

Vintage 8' Bamboo Fly Rod Meadowbrook 3/2 Mint!
Offering for auction a Superb Bamboo Fly Fishing Rod. The rod and the canvas bag are marked"MEADOWBROOK" The rod has 4 total pieces 3/2. It is 8" each piece measures 321/2" long. The rod is mint. I do not believe it has ever been fished. Ferules. Guides and wrap are all tight with no flaws. Nice pop to the ferules when pulling the pieces apart. Cork handle and reel seat are both great condition It comes with a canvas bag in good condition, only a torn label. No tube, but I will find something secure to ship it in. Classic South Bend 9' Double Built Bamboo Fly Fishing Rod 3/2 For Restoration
I can't find a model number on this rod. It is in a South Bend Model 59 bag but does not seem to match the specs. The sections of this rod are all the proper length and essentially straight. The rod needs a complete redo. The cork grip is 5 7/8" long. Straight, soiled from use. The reel seat has an uplocking threadlock mechanism, black bakelite spacer. The decal is the early orange and yellow oval. There is also an oval"DOUBLE BUILT" decal in black, yellow and red. Both decals are 100% The stripper guide is garnix, the wraps red, tipped black. The varnish on the butt section is good but dark. The mid section is missing two snake guides, has another that needs rewrapping, varnish spotty. Both tip sections are in decent condition, one is missing the tip top. The welts on the ferrules are soldered. The ferrules are properly ... moretight. I'm convinced that the bag does not match the rod. This comes in an aluminum tube with no cap.

VINTAGE HIGH QUALITY BAMBOO FLY FISHING ROD 108" long
Here is a vintage bamboo fly fishing rod. Estate fresh from a New England home. It measures over 108" when fitted together and appears to be of good quality. The eyelets are all present and intact, cork handle in great condition. Has a light curve when assembled. The only flaw I can find is a small split in the metal on the top portion on the center piece that fits into the first handle piece(pictured) Overall in very good condition and functional. Heddon De Luxe #35 Bamboo Fly Rod
This rod is a high end Heddon and marked De Luxe#35. The cane and wraps are beautiful and the wood reel seat is superb. The first guide on the mid section is missing and one tip is short by an inch. Vintage 3 Pc Hand Made Tonkin Bamboo Vintage Fly Fishing Rod With Case
This auction is for a vintage hand made tonkin bamboo fly fishing rod. The rod is in very good condition. I was unable to find a makers name on the rod or wooden holder. When in use this is a two section rod measuring 7ft and 7" The rod has 9 guides. The ferrules fit together smooth and easy. There is an extra top half section which accounts for the rod's third section. The rod is free splits and cracks. The cork handle is free from breaks and missing chunks.
