J. L. John) Weir& Son varnished 2-piece. 2-tip, 8' for a 5/6 weight bamboo fly rod from the late sixties/early seventies in excellent condition. Labeled M801.22.8. J. L. Weir& Son were a small Western rodmaker located in Los Gatos CA. Their output was small and seldom do these rods find their way to market. Typical of Western fly rods of the day designed to fish larger waters, this rod has a'crisper' action than similar rods from some of the prominent Eastern makers like C. F. Charles) Orvis, H. L. Hiram) Leonard, James(Jim) Payne, Everett Garrison and others. 9 snake guides with an agate'stripper' J. L. Weir& Son rods had a couple of unique and distinctive features; Wood reel seat filler finished in oil rather than varnish. This made it very easy to'freshen' as needed without refinishing the entire ... morereel seat. The Sterling silver hook-keeper is actually embedded in the front of the cork grip. This spares the windings and bamboo from any damage and also provides a'resting' place for your dry fly without crushing the hackles against the bamboo as with more traditional hook-keepers. The rod bag is heavy denim to protect this fine rod. A gorgeous rod with very light wheat colored shafts, brown silk guide wraps tipped black at grip, ferrules, tips(1 tip has two wraps of black and the other only 1, this allows differentiating so tips can be switched from time-to-time) The varnish is perfect. The ferrules are nickel silver. I believe the butt cap, reel seat hardware and grip-check are aluminum. The butt-cap is labeled WEIR& SON. Vintage "GRAMPUS" by Kiraku & Co Bamboo Fly Rod Parts ( 2 EXC. 32" TIPS & 1 C.S.
Offered up for bids are these Vintage"GRAMPUS" by Kiraku& Co Bamboo Fly Rod Parts( 2 EXC. 32" TIPS& 1 C.S) The C.S. stands for center section. I didn't have enough room to put that in the title. Anyway. There is no make written on the fly rod parts, but these parts were in this aluminum case. The 2 tips are in EXCELLENT COND. and measure 32" long. The other section is shorter by 3" and the top ferrule is cracked. It will need replaced. The center part is in excellent cond. but maybe shorter. I don't know for sure. Maybe you have a bottom section. And need a tip. Here are some parts that will hopefully make a complete fly rod for you.

Guides and tip-tops show no wear to indicate the rod has ever been lined. Wraps are lime green. Tipped yellow with the ambering you would expect from a rod of the era. Varnish in fine condition. Original H.L. Leonard Bamboo Fly Rod Butt Ferrule w/Patent Date 19/64th 9.5' Rod
Very scarce original bamboo fly rod ferrule for the butt/mid of a 9.5' H.L. Leonard with the patent date stamped on the ferrule of Sep. 3. 1878 and Oct. 26 75(1875) It measured.296" on my Digital Calipers. It is very rare to find a matched ferrule for a Leonard rod. In this case, I think someone was very mad at the owner of this rod as all 4 sections were broken. I'm no Leonard expert so I don't know when they stopped using the patent stamped dates on the ferrules. But I believe this rod was made before 1929. VINTAGE HEDDON# 14 USA SPLIT BAMBOO FLY FISHING ROD& SKELTON FLY REEL This auction is for a vintage three piece 9’ Heddon# 14 split bamboo fly rod with an early 1900’s skeleton fly reel. The reel has no identifications and is in good working order. There is a Heddon and# 14 9’ 2 1/2f HCH or D inscription. I would estimate it would balance with a modern day five-six weight forward fly line. The 6 ¾ cork handle has some wear but is fully functional. The screw down lock wooden spacer reel seat is in great condition. There are three snake eye guides on the mid section. Five on the tip and a stripper guide/hook keeper on the bottom section. The female and male ferrules on the bottom and mid section are not original but they and all of the sections fit together perfectly when assembled. There a few wraps missing from the stripper guide ... morebut it is very tight. The tip section has a slight natural set which will not affect the casting of the rod. I meticulously stripped the old varnish. Refinished with four coats of spar varnish and completed it with high quality wood rubbing compounds. The ferrules have been buffed and polished. The classic Heddon brownstone colored bamboo cane and varnish finish are gorgeous. MIKE CLARK'S "Saint Vrain Special" 7'3" 2/1 Impregnated Bamboo Fly Rod
Here is a really sweet Clark's rod that was probably from around the mid 90's. Other than a slightly soiled grip. It is in excellent, flawless condition. I lawn cast it in the park over the weekend and was pretty darn impressed with it's casting ability with a 5DT and a 6DT. It has a medium/fast action and would make a great all around, versatile rod. I found a little info on the web explaining: Mike Clark builds the"St. Vrain Special, a one tip rod that uses Phillipson Peerless impregnated blanks that were the finest blanks Phillipson made. The rods have wood spacers on the reel seat, Leonard Super Swiss Ferrules, and all nickel silver hardware. Shipping is $9.50 to the lower 48.

Here is a very fine South Bend 469-7 two piece. 7 foot split bamboo combination fly and spinning rod. We know from the satin finish nickel silver ferrules that this rod dates to circa 1949(see last photo of a 1949 South Bend catalog excerpt) later versions had chromium plated ferrules. The litelock fly reel seat works well. Cork grip is in good shape. Varnish is smooth and glossy. All the wraps are original and tight. The ferrules fit snugly and disjoint with a pop. Rod doesn't look like it was used much but the tip section does have a slight downward curve or set which doesn't affect it's casting. Action is very fast- should handle a 6 or 7 weight fly line(they were rated for D or HCH ... morelines) According to the catalog. It casts lures or weighted flies from 1/8 to 1/2 oz. with a standard spinning reel. Comes with a crisp twill labelled bag and the original labelled fiber tube with cap. **Vintage Bamboo Fly Rod - 1930 "Featherweight" Horrocks-Ibbotson - All Original
Vintage. All original Horrocks-Ibbotson"Featherweight" bamboo fly rod, manufactured in the 1930's. The rod is very light, has 3 equal sections at 35 inches each. When assembled the rod is just under 9 feet long. This cane rod is close to one hundred years old and it has seen use. It is used and shows wear. But nonetheless it remains a good and serviceable bamboo rod from Horrocks-Ibbotson, Utica, NY. The reel seat is an up-locking sliding band. The cork handle is in very good condition. All of the guides are reinforced reverse twist guides. Found on many early rods. All intermediate and guide wraps are original and the cane is sound. No breakage whatsoever. I have done no repairs to this rod and will have it remain so. The only disappointment is the labels are quite worn, but that, of course has no effect on the performance ... moreof the rod. Even so, the rod has a deep rich brown patina that is quite attractive. Personally. I have had a few of H-I's Featherweight rods through the years. They are a pleasure to cast, especially if you enjoy a very slow loading bamboo rod. As mentioned, I would use a 3 or 4 weight line on this rod. Included is a Hardy Phantom 7' 3wt rod in as new condition along with a very rare Hardy Bougle Agate 1 reel also in as new condition. The rod was acquired from a dealer a few years ago- is recent production and is stunning in both workmanship and feel. The Reel was acquired later to match the rod both in color and function. Both are just beautiful! The tube I have for the set is a standard aluminum tube that has a very small ding in the side from storage otherwise in good condition. The rod bag is a new old stock Hardy bag. The reel box has some markings and is not mint but includes the case and papers. I have decided to part with this set only because of financial need. This is a Vintage Heddon Bamboo Fly Rod. This is an older Heddon and has the metal reelseat. The rod has been partially redone but needs to be completed. All of the guides need to be replaced. It does have the ferrules and tip tops in place. The butt section has not been sanded down and has the glue and string marks. There is the Heddon name winding around the bamboo but there is no number. It is a 3 piece 2 tip and the length is 9 feet. I do not see or feel any seperations or nicks in the bamboo. The sections are pretty straight with the tips having some set.The rod comes with a replacement sock. Use the zoom on the pics to see the detail on them. Hardy Bros. Three-piece 7’6” Marvel” bamboo fly rod. This little rod was made in 1949(serial# E70936) It has the all-cork reel seat and hand grasp. With blued nickel silver ferrules and an agate guide on the butt section and at the top guides. These rods were made to accommodate the American market. And this one feels to my hand that it would match a#4 WFF line. Judging by the cork. The rod has seen very little use. Although the butt section is about and inch short making the rod 7’5” It comes in the original Hardy bag. With the two informational tags, and the correct aluminum tube. This is almost a great example of this little rod. The missing inch at the butt should not change the action appreciably. So it is ready to see the sunlight and a stream once again.

Usually found spooled on wooden spools. Definitions: Manufacture Era ~ Early Era was manufactured pre-WWII. Closest match to silk thread found on most vintage rods as most were built before WWII. This is a Vintage Art Kade of Shebygan. Wisconsin"Sprite" Bamboo Fly Rod. This is a 2 piece 2 tip model with a length of 7.5 feet. The only issue with this rod is the original reelseat was made of hard rubber and it desinegrated. I have replace with the same style that the original one was. I have not glued it in place in case you want to use a different style. I will set it if you want this one. The rest of the rod is in mint condition and not many of these around. The varnish is very smooth and the cane is a darker honey color. There is nothing missing or broken and all original except the reelseat. Phillipson Dry Fly Special 8.5' 3/2 Bamboo Fly Rod Ready to Fish 2 rods in 1
You are bidding on a wonderful and hard to find Phillipson Impregnated Dry Fly Special. 8.5 ft, 5.5 oz. 3/2 6 weight. 3 pieces with 2 tips. This rod includes cloth sack in great condition, and original aluminum tube in great condition with a full label. All the wraps very good and indicative of the Phillipson flare for fantastic windings. Henna Brown and yellow. This is one heck of a great looking rod and it is ready to fish as is. I can't say enough about this basically new rod, that is almost 60 years old. It is now ready for another lifetime of fishing. Probably the best thing about this is that is comes with the original extra cork handle and reel seat. This allows you to use only the mid and tip section so that you end up with a much shorter spring creek rod. These handles are extremely difficult to find. The female ferrule in this ... morehandle is slightly loose when putting the mid section in from years of use. I believe it could still be used to cast, however, you should use some parafin to tighten up the connection. All other ferrules give a nice pop when removing. The two tips are both short, one by three inches, the other two and a half. This rod. Gives you some length, loads well, yet still light enough to present dry's and cast all day without pulling a shoulder. This rod will cast a dainty dry or weighted wooly bugger no problem. Don't you want to be the guy on your fishing trip this year showing off what what an OLD Phillipson can do? This rod will be expertly packaged and shipped insured to your location. This beautiful box was found at a small antique store in rural Montana. The owner told me it was custom made in the early 1950’s and belonged to his uncle. It measures 37 ½” in length and is 3” wide. It has the initials PFS on it. The case is very good functional condition. It weighs 6.8 pounds and can store three four piece fly rods. One of the rods is an early 1900’s Montague Chubb based on the length of the reel seat and overall characteristics. The second rod has an inscription on the reel seat that reads“DE Mark” with an arrow through it. They fit together nicely but are missing some eye guides. Classic Heddon No.10 Blue Waters 8 1/2" Bamboo Fly Rod 3/1 With Bag And Tube
This rod is problematic. It is a one tip section rod with the tip section 3 1/2" short. The butt and mid sections are in excellent condition. More than likely restored to like-new condition. The reel seat has a white marbleized plastic spacer with a downlocking mechanism, about perfect. The cork grip is pristine. The wraps are a dark jasper. The tip section has red wraps tipped in green, clearly original. It fits tight, not sure it is original to this rod. The rod has 2 1/2F ferrules. The recommended line weight is HCH or D, modern DT7F or DT8S. I expect that this rod will fish okay. Granger Victory Bamboo Fly Rod EXCELLENT w 2 tips, sock and tube NO RES WOW
Here is a Granger Victory split bamboo fly rod. This fly rod has 4 sections which includes 2 tips. All 4 sections are just a hair over 34&1/2 inches in length. This rod is used but still in near excellent condition with some darkening of the cork but no big chips or gouges. Good solid guides and wraps with no visible broken threads, nice finish with very few marks. So rod is not perfect but certainly near excellent. In 20 years of rod collecting I’ve looked at and owned a fair number of Winchester bamboo rods. But this is the only model 6320 I have ever come across. I purchased it from the grandson of the original owner. It has the option of being a 9’ fly rod or a 6’ bait rod. It is complete and full length, solid and straight, and is original except for a couple of the guide wraps. The factory tagged bag has the sewn Winchester label plus the remnants of a Winchester/New Haven paper label on the outside. As shown- an incomplete pair of GRAMPUS fly fishing kits made by the Kiraku& Co. Inc of Tokyo Japan. I came across this pair in a thrift store, and I don't know much about it other than the very brief research I found online. It appears only one of the rods, albeit incomplete, is present, and perhaps a few more pieces of tackle are missing. Included pieces are: 2- wooden cases with separate compartments for the tackle 16- flys 4- piece section of a single split rod(missing the handle section) measures approx. 64" once joined together 2- cloth rod sleeves Hopefully someone can salvage the pieces from this set to make a complete set and/or upgrade an existing similar set. This auction includes a USED 2-piece 6'0" flamed bamboo fly rod with two tips for a 3-4-weight line. Custom-sewn bag and aluminum tube, designed for smaller water fishing. The taper is my own design and provides crisp dry fly type action. The rod has unusual mottled flaming(which doesn't show up well in the photos above) Shop made ferrules slide in fairly easily, but seat securely, pop when separated, and may benefit from a dab of paraffin or beeswax on the male slides. Purchased at the"Sport and Boat Show" in San Francisco in 1956.manufacture date is mar.16 1956) Made for John Morse" was written on shaft. This very lightly used rod was made by Lew Stoner who died suddenly a year later. Referred to as a"Lew Stoner Generation" rod. As stated above one tip was broken and an undetectable repair was made by the Winston company. That tip is 3 inches shorter. I believe the soft red Winston sock is original. 7 feet.2 5/8 oz.4 wt. serial no.7850 Factory in twin falls values it $2.500 to $3,500. I have set reserve well below that. ORVIS Rocky Mountain Split Bamboo Fly Rod 6.5'- 5 wt- 3 1/8 oz- 3/1
This great little rod has a unique history. This rod left Orvis in the 1940's as a Rocky Mountain"kit" rod. It was sent to a hardware store in Ishpeming MI(Robt Traver country) I bought it with some repairs needed and contacted Charlie Heise at Orvis. They gave me more history and did a fabulous restoration. Both rod and replacement tube say; Orvis Rocky Mountain Kit Rod- Impregnated Pat Pend. The tube also says; Weight 3 1/8 oz- 14/9 f- HEH 5 wt- 6 1/2 ft The rod also comes with the original cardboard shipping tube that it came in. Some of the labels and stamps are still readable. The metal tube and sock are Orvis replacements.
