The rod for sale is a 7' 2/2#4 Mettowee series. This is an impregnated finish rod. With green/black wraps, delicate 5" grip, upsliding Bellinger Reelseat with burl spacer, CSE truncated ferrules, along with bag and tube. The rod has been very lightly fished a couple of times and is in virtually as-new condition. The action is similar in style to a Payne 98, with a light tip/dry fly action and a large swelled butt. Bamboo fishing rods are classic pieces. Aging finely from age and use. This rod is made by“South Bend” and is marked as being model 323 and measuring in at 9’ It comes with two tips, although one of the tips looks to have a slight, permanent bend to it from much use. The rod breaks down into three sections(so there are four sections total) The cork handle has some discoloration from age and use and there was a metal tag on it, but the lettering has worn away. this vintage H& I Ike Walton 9 ft split bamboo rod has been striped and refinished with high quality spar varnish. the partial decal is minimally there. But can make out most printed"genuine Tonkin" and a bit of the red H& I. the signed"Ike Walton" in white script is in great condition. there may be couple early professional partial re-wraps on it, as the mid section high end snake guide looks slightly not original, and the mid low end guide is silver, not the dark steel as on the others, but the wrap looks original. the sections are all 36 1/2 in. cork clean and firm with small dig(see pic) the new cushion-cloth replacement rod sock in pics is included. assembled rod feels fine for casting. overall, a nice rod to use or display. please examine pics carefully and ask any questions before bidding. good luck and ... moregood fishing USA and CANADA bidders ONLY I am happy to combine shipping priority mail with delivery conformation is included insurance is your option. 8' 3/2 Heddon Blue Waters Bamboo Fly Rod
Here we have a great American Classic affordable Bamboo Fly Rod Very fishable in this configuration; 8' in length. Three Piece. With two tips. One of the best Heddon Tapers. Both tips straight. The same length and ferrules solid and snug. Ferrules are the 2f. Which is the desirable taper for all around trout fishing. This casts a great 5wt line. The rod may have been refinished. As the original bakelite reel seat has been replaced with an aluminum which is in excellent condition. The varnish in excellent shape. Some very slight varnish crinkling along a few of the wraps. Grip is clean and nice, tiny hint of ridging near the fore part, tho it looks like from ultra dry cork, not use. Original Bag and tag. Tube looks proper but there is no Heddon Label. It appears to have been a English rod approximate 7'3" assembled. The ferrule ends have a knurled detail. The reel seat is cork continuing down from the grip with a nicely knurled locking ring band. There is a nice hook saver above the winding check. The rod is a 2/2. Two-piece, 2-tip with all sections straight. The butt section above the grip is inked"Rebuilt By Omar H. Needham Rangeley, ME. 4447-68" It cast a 4/5 wt. line. It comes in its cloth sack and brass capped rod tube. Here is a brief history of Mr. Needham quoted from Cententenial Publications. Omar H. Needham was a fine craftsman with his traditions in rod making deeply ... morerooted in the Maine tradition of hard work and ingenuity that produced many of America's finest rodmakers. H e was only 14 years old when he built his first split cane rod. With direction and encouragement of an itinerant Scotsman visiting Summit Springs around 1920. H e spent the next ten to fifteen years experimenting with his own tapers. Learning the intricacies of rod construction through trial and error experimentation, and constantly striving to improve his rods and his workmanship. N eedham was married in 1934 and settled into a small food store business in Norway. Maine, with a shop in the rear of the building, outfitted with tools and equipment of his own design and construction for building bamboo rods. All of his spare time was devoted to building rods. He was an avid outdoorsman and soon expanded into fly tying and guiding. T hen fate intervened when he and his wife Ruth went to Albany. An old post war reel with split bamboo construction and it's handle is reversible for either fly fishing or casting(see eyelet variations photos 5-6) There is an extra ferrule piece insert piece(photo 8) that I'm not sure what it's for. Three different rod tip sections(1 casting and 2 fly) each approx 31 1/2" long. Believe it will make a 64" casting rod and there is even a fold down finger lever(photo 9) for casting. Makes an alomost 8' fly reel with 2 available tip end sections. It's used but looks to be in good condition with tight eyelets all present and tight bamboo seams nicely wrapped. Comes with original box and still has the label with lure storage compartments and sliding covers. It's my pleasure to offer at auction an Extremely Nice 1938-1941 HEDDON NO.17"BLACK BEAUTY" 9 FT. 3/2 SPLIT BAMBOO FLY ROD WITH#2 FERRULE IN"STANDARD TROUT ACTION" WITH LABELED BAG& LABELED ALUMINUM TUBE. The"Black Beauty" model, first introduced by James Heddon's Sons in 1931, is considered to be their most popular bamboo fly rod. It would be offered continuously through 1955, one of the last bamboo models sold. Because this example is equipped with the down-locking reel seat(first used in late 1938 or early 1939) and carries the Classic Era rodshaft markings(used as late as 1941 on these) we know this was built sometime from 1938 to 1941. The handle can be turned around- for fly or cast? although all the guides look all fly to me. It makes into two 7'6" one with light tip and one with heavier tip. And a 9'6" light fly rod. The bag fits all the pieces- but is in rough shape The overall condition is very good+. The wraps. And guides are very good- a couple of guides are loose- not bad. Cork is nice and full. VINTAGE ANTIQUE BAMBOO SPLIT CANE FLY ROD MICHIGAN circa 30s - 40s 8ft 6.5 inch
Here I have a vintage bamboo split cane fly rod that was obtained in Michigan. There is no identification marks on the fly rod or the sock case. There is some markings on the sock where the tag must have been( see pictures) I am not an expert and you must judge this rod based on the multiple pictures I have. I took the rod to an expert and he placed it circa 30s- 40s making it an antique and collectible rod. Experts could probably identify the rod based on the ferrules of which I put many pictures. The rod is split into three parts the base section is 34.5" long. The middle section is 33.5" the tip section is 35.5" The rod when assembled is about 8' 6.5" long and has 6 guides with a cork handle. The bamboo split cane is 6 sided as seen in pictures. The rod seems to be in exceptional condition considering its age and ... morethe only concern seems to be that it was repaired at the second to last guide at the tip. I have included close up pics of this. The expert said that was not a concern. Remember I am not an expert and I have not fished this rod so please look carefully at the pictures. VINTAGE REFINISHED 9.3 RIVER SPLIT BAMBOO FLY FISHING ROD This auction is for a vintage refinished three piece 9’4” split bamboo fly fishing rod. There are no manufacturer identifications. The bottom and mid sections measure 39” and the tip is 33 ½” I would estimate the rod would match well with a six weight fly line. The six inch cork handle and screw down lock reel seat are in very good functional condition. There are five snake eye guides on the mid section. Two of which have been nicely re-wrapped, five on the tip(new tip top eye) and an agate stripper guide on the bottom section. The mid section is not original to the rod, however the sections fit together perfectly when assembled and have the distinct pop sound when removed. There is a slight natural set which will not affect the casting of the rod. I meticulously stripped the ... moreold varnish. Refinished with four coats of spar varnish and completed it with high quality wood rubbing compounds. The ferrules have been buffed and polished. The bamboo cane and varnish finish are gorgeous. RARE , VINTAGE, GRANGER FAVORITE, 1930'S BAMBOO FLY ROD
This auction is for an extremeley scarce 1930's antique fly fishing rod with the original tube and sock. And signed on the rod: GRANGER FAVORITE- and marked on the reel seat: PAT. PENDING- MADE BY GOODWIN GRANGER COMPANY- DENVER,missing the tube label. This 3 piece fly fishing rod has the original extra tip for 4 pieces total. There is no visible damage but there is some wear showing to the cork but no cork missing. All of the connections need to be cleaned. This rod is fully functional and in very good condition and appears just lightly used. The sock is in very good condition showing just light storage wear with no damages. The length of the rod is 9 1/2' which seems a little odd to me because Granger has the Favorite listed at 9'1928-1933) whereas the 6S9652 is listed at 9 1/2' and has the screw on reel holder on the end(mild ... morereversed half wells) and made between 1934-1941.It is definitely original. It is marked"SOUTH BEND a Name Famous in fishiing" written onto the pole is"HDH or D" and on the opposite side of the pole is written"346-9' the last photo shows that some varnish has popped off. It looks like the one tip was used more often. or had a big one on it at some time! I know nothing about fly fishing or vintage poles. so I took many pictures of it outside in good lighting. Commonly used at the Golden Gate Casting Club as well as other venues around the country/world for the SFD events. This is an extremely rare specialty rod. There is no reel seat on this rod as the line was laid on the ground to be released during the cast. For being a rod that is dated from the early 1950s. The rod is in great condition. There are some light nicks/scratches, nothing that seems too serious. The handle wraps are in great shape and the two pieces connect together nicely. Vintage KINGFISHER 4 Section BAMBOO FLY FISHING ROD 9' w Cloth Case & Alum. Tube
I have a vintage 9 ft. Kingfisher Split Bamboo Fly Fishing Rod. This 4 piece rod has a cork handle and has one extra tip. This vintage rod will need a little TLC or restoration. The main eyelet and windings is missing and another eyelet is broken and a couple of eyelets are rusty. The rod itself has a great patina and is in beautiful shape. It comes with a bag and an aluminum tube. I am not a fisherman so I can only describe what I see. E-mail any questions. I only ship to the lower 48.

1930's Granger Champion 9050 Bamboo Fly Rod Parts for restoration use. This is a well used Granger Champion Fly Rod with two tips that may be used for parts. Each piece is described as follows: Butt: Missing Reel Seat. Cork is in Good Shape, Section is Full Length, Dent in Female Ferrule as shown in last picture, Varnish in poor shape, Marked Granger Champion Mid: Cane is full length. However, female ferrule is broken off at the end. Male ferrule in good condition. Varnish in poor shape with missing guides. Tip 1: Full Length. Male Ferrule in Good Condition, All guides and wraps in place, varnish is a bit rough at the end of the tip. Could be a good extra tip for a 9050 1 piece rod without any work. Hardy CC de France Palakona Bamboo Fly Rod
This is a Hardy CC de France Palakona fly reel. It is in very good condition as far as I can tell as I am not a fisherman. It belonged to my fathers collection and he was an avid fly fisherman. The serial number is H13293 which dates it from 1957. It comes with two tips and measures 82" in length. It has an agate 1st and tip guides. There is some minor damage to the wood 15 1/2" up from the base which I have included a picture of. Otherwise there are no other defects as far as I can tell.
