Antique Abbey & Imbrie ~ Empire City Bamboo Fly Rod Special Grade 9(3/2)
In the upcoming weeks I'll be listing a couple of handyman specials so check out some of the other auctions if you like to restore bamboo fly rods. Here is an Abbey& Imbrie Empire City Special Grade 9'3/2) Bamboo fly rod. Although not marked with Abbey& Imbrie stamp. Empire City" was a trademark they used. The butt section and the longer tip are full length and measure 36 5/8" The midsection measures 35 1/8" and the short tip is 25" long. The major problem with this rod is the midsection was broken completely in half and then was reconnected with a German silver sleeve. The glue has dried out and has come apart. Besides the midsection break, I see no other damage to the bamboo. The finish is old and dried out but appears to be original. There is one snake guide missing on the butt section next to the ferrule. ... moreAll other guides are present and look to be original. It is marked on the reel seat"Empire City- Special Grade" with the trade mark in between. The reel seat has some dings and banged in at the bottom a bit. The cork is made from 1/4" rings which is in good condition with a little roughness. The ferrules are made from German silver with brass discs soldered at the bottom of the males which John Landman used. They fit together nicely with a good pop when pulled apart. They should be cleaned up a bit before seating them all the way. The rod comes with it's original velvet covered wooden form case missing it's leather cap at the top. There is no bag with this rod but will be packed well for shipment. Please see photos for condition. Please send me any questions or comments. Winning bidder pays shipping.

Vintage Montague Split Cane Bamboo 3 Piece Fly Fishing Rod with 2 Tips
This is a vintage Montague Split Cane Bamboo fly fishing rod. I am not sure which exact model Montague it is because the decal is partially removed. The last 2 letters of the model is what is left. And those last 2 letters are.OM. This rod is a 3 piece rod, and there are 2 tips. All the original guides are attached and in place with original thread. The butt section measures 35 inches, the second section measures 34 1/2 inches, and one tip measures 33 1/4 inches and the second tip measures 34 1/2 inches. The reel seat is in good condition with hoods in place. The cork foregrip has vintage wear. The rod ferrules are in good condition and all pieces connect. The rod tips have slight bends at the very top section from storage(see photo) There is absolutely NO splits or cracks in the bamboo. All sections are solid. VINTAGE 7' PAYNE BAMBOO FLY ROD 3 PIECE with ORIGINAL SOCK & STORAGE CASE
This auction is for a vintage Payne bamboo fly rod that we recently purchased at an estate sale. Not overly knowledgeable about these fly rods, will do our best to describe it fully but please feel free to email with any questions. Reel seat is marked"Payne; Reg. U.S. Pat. Office" and"Sold by Abercrombie& Fitch Company; New York" Rod has three sections, a handle section and two tips, all of equal length. Believe this rod has the start of an old restoration, there are no markings on the handle section to identify the model and all handle wrappings have been removed; there is no stripper guide but the mark on the rod where it was located is still there. The first tip section has six guides and a tip, all in place; looks like they have the original wrapping but not familiar enough with this to know for sure. The second ... moretip has had all of the guides stripped off except for the top one and the tip; the old guide marks on the second tip are visible and when held side by side with the first tip. They line up with the guides that are still in place. When a tip and handle section are put together, the rod is seven feet long; ultra thin bamboo sections, don't know how to tell about the taper and blank sizes, found online references to this information but don't know how to apply it to this one. Looks like it would take very little effort to finish the restoration; overall great condition! Comes with what seems to be the original sock and original aluminum storage tube; sock is in very nice shape; storage tube shows some wear and tear, a few dents and is missing the threaded cap, rounded butt cap is in place. Vintage Goodwin Granger 8642 Bamboo Fly Rod with slide band seat. 8 1/2 foot, 3 piece, 2 tips, bag& tube(probably not factory original) very nice- probably refinished(maybe original) some time ago(as the b&w wraps are nicely and accurately colored by the varnish over great time) my information is that this could be a Wright& McGill Granger Favorite that was refinished and a slide band seat added. If so, the Granger Favorite stamp that W&M used, is missing- possibly in the refinish.all sections of equal and original length, butt ferrule seems to need reglueing(if fished, I would reglue all ferrules) the grip is a replacement done professionally, reel seat states Granger Favorite and all factory markings, a few light dents in seat near top, notice that the seat does tilt slightly downward as mounted(that might add evidence of ... morean added seat later) ferrule fit is excellent(nice Granger pops) one tip(see the replacement tip top) has a professionally done scarf(very nice) varnish is smooth and excellent(may have had a thin overcoat in the past) and the seat has a thin nickel silver brad(see pic)that was placed to probably secure the reel seat. as expected a beautiful, rare, and exquisite actioned rod- a 4-5 in my hand. Leonard Duracane 8 ft. bamboo fly rod. 4/5 weight serial# 1492. 2 piece rod with extra tip. Green wraps, all sections straight and tight. I have fished it maybe 4 times. I bought the rod many years ago from Bob Miller, who wrote the book"Tricos. The knurled part only of the down locking ring of the reel seat has been marred some. Word is this happened at the Urban Angler in New York before it was even sold. I have too many rods and this one will make somebody happy. I believe the sock and brass capped tube are original. Except knurl on ring. Rod is in first rate condition. Rod has been cared for as I do with all my fishing equipment. Please see photos. It's my pleasure to offer at auction an Extremely Nice and quite desirable 1942-1948 HEDDON NO.17"BLACK BEAUTY" 9 FT. 3/2"STANDARD TROUT ACTION" SPLIT BAMBOO FLY ROD WITH THE ORIGINAL LABELED BAG& LABELED FIBER TUBE. One of the nicer examples I've handled. Generally regarded as James Heddon's Sons' most popular model fly rod, the No.17"Black Beauty" was first introduced in 1931 and would sell continuously through 1955. Because this example carries the Neo Classic Era rodshaft markings(used from 1938-1948) and is put up in the bag with the post-1941 inspection label, we know it was built from about early 1942 to 1948(1943-1945 being the exception) Heddon's Cleo Hanley has handwritten"Heddon" diagonally along three flats and"17- 9' 2F- HDH or E" on a single flat, ... morejust above the hook keeper. The reel seat locking nut is stamped"PAT. NO. 1624052" the 1927 patent assigned to Heddon for the screw-locking seat. For bid is this used Vintage Rare Antique Bamboo Fly Fishing Rod 4pc w/ Wood Case Holder. My husband purchased this years ago and had it stored in the garage till this past week. This is a 3 pc rod with 2 top sections(would be a 4 piece total) that are both broke. I think a couple line guides or eyes are missing and the line tips are missing. I looked but can not find a make or any marks. Was told at one time that this is early 1900s. Looking at the pictures i hope you can see the condition and the 2 upper sections that are broke. The wood case dowl is cut/groved into the wood so each section fits and it is cut/groved deeper in the wood for each line guide or eye. There is a metal cap on each end held on by 1 nail. The wood case/dowl is about 42" long. I would think this might be a collectable item even with the 2 top sections being ... morebroke. Please look at the pictures. MANTAGUE "Sunbeam" 9 ft Fly Rod . Bamboo . Extra Tip . Very Good Plus Condition
This rod appears to be in very good plus to excellent condition. Circa 1930-1940 from my research. I am no expert in the fluid& stream area. So. Research leads me to understand this is a very old sought after fly rod. The 4 sections are shown in photos as well as the parts I believe are most important such as the connecting sections and line eyes. The main rod. Mid section and two tips. I cannot find any stress points or cracks in the bamboo. There is good fixtures of all the line eyes to the rod. The cork handle has one small section absent at the part(shoulder) closest to the rod. The rest is intact. See photo) The body of the rod is hexagon. The coating of protective material(seems a lacquer) appears smooth. Uniform and in very good plus condition. There appears a small amount of discoloration to the(male/female) connectors seemingly ... moremade of brass.sort of a tarnish/patina not rust. Each rod measures 36" in length. With a small amount of TLC this could be restored to near factory in my opinion. Last photo is from a 1940 catalog courtesy of Field and Stream. Reel seat is up-locking over black bakelite insert. The butt cap is threaded and removable. Original rod tag is included. Wraps are an attractive green with red tipping. Full green intermediates. Guides are standing bridge type. Tip-tops are both agate-lined as is the stripping guide. Bag does not appear to be original. Rod comes in a modern Hardy-labeled tube. I owned the rod for 30 years and never fished it(part of my personal collection) Rod was pre-owned when I acquired it. The fiber tube appears to be original. Rod bag is not. The varnish& wraps look like new. Maybe an old sprucing up of varnish prior to my ownership. Cork shows no soiling. Wright McGill Granger Favorite Bamboo Fly Rod 9' GF9050 Ready to Fish
You are bidding on a wonderful Wright McGill Granger Favorite GF9050 9ft 5 oz. 3/2. 3 pieces with 2 tips. This is a very nice original condition bamboo fly rod from the 40's or early 50's. The only thing I can find wrong is a double blind wrap on 1 of the tips. The same tip also has a slight set. But I think with some time and a little heat it could be made a little better. The tip is 100% sturdy and fishable. The cap to the tube is also missing. Other than those two things everything else appears to be original and in great shape. Beautiful cane. All ferrules should be cleaned but produce a great pop. No clicking when casting. Everything is solid and ready to catch some big fish, with a rod that's over 60 years old. This rod. For those that don't know is positioned as an upper mid-grade rod and used bamboo that was not quite ... moregood enough for the Premier but better than the Aristocrat and Special, and way better than the Victory or Champion. This rod will catch fish, period. This rod will cast a dainty dry or weighted wooly bugger no problem. All it needs is someone to give it some time on the water. Don't you want to be the guy on your fishing trip this year showing off what what an OLD Granger can do? This rod will be expertly packaged and shipped insured to your location. VINTAGE EDWARDS BRISTOL 8' & 5' BAMBOO FLY ROD W/ SOCK & extra tip
I stumbled across this old rod while cleaning out a storage unit. While I am a fly fisherman. I know nothing about vintage, antique, or collectable rods. I will do my best to describe what I have. Please view the pictures well. I will answer and post any questions you may have. Inside the vintage sock are 5 pieces. The best we could figure out is that this set contained a 5 1/2 foot plus a 8 foot rod plus an extra tip. It is bamboo and very old.

1930's Goodwin Granger Victory Bamboo Fly Rod 8.5' GV8642 Ready to Fish
You are bidding on a fantastic Goodwin Granger Victory 8.5 ft. 4.5 oz. 3/2. 3 pieces with 2 tips. This rod was made sometime between 1933 and 1942 I believe and includes replacement rod cloth and aluminum tube in good condition, this rod would have originally come with a cardboard tube. The rod was apparently refinished by or for Hal Richards. The actual refinish looks pretty good, however, not exactly correct or identical to how it came from the factory. It was a great amateur effort. There is an extra snake guide apparently used as a hook keep near the signature. I would recommend removing that and touching up the finish with some varnish. The great news is that this is a nice looking Victory ready to fish. You can vaguely see the original print under the script that was added as part of the refinish. The additional writing may be successfully ... moreremoved to find the original script. The rod is full length with no structural problems. Everything just as it should be with nice popping ferrules. The rod casts a 4-5 weight DT modern fly line beautifully. All sections are equal length, straight as an arrow, reel seat functions and is like new(For being 80 years old) ferrules are great. If you want an inexpensive like new Granger to fish this is it. I can't say enough about this basically brand new rod, that is already 80 years old. It is now ready for another lifetime of fishing. VINTAGE 9' HEDDON? SOUTH BEND? JAPAN? 4 PC BAMBOO FLY FISHING ROD NICE
You are bidding on a Nice Clean Lightly Used 4 Piece Bamboo Fly Fishing Rod. I am not sure if this rod was redone. I do not know who made the rod. It has no name. My guess is it was probably made in Japan but I could be wrong. This rod has two tips. The long tip makes it about a 9 foot rod. The shorter tip make the rod about 8 foot 10 inches. The longer tip is a little thinner than the shorter tip. The shorter tip appears to be a little heftier. Normally tips are usually the same length but these two tips are not the same length. The tips have not been repaired. All the wraps on this rod look to be in very good condition. The ferrules all look good. The pieces fit together nicely. When putting the fly rod together the second section fits a little snug in the female ferrule-it does go in but it is tight. The cork handle looks good. The reel ... moreseat looks good. Overall. Heddon 'Expert' #125 9 ft Bamboo Fly Rod w 2 tips
For auction is a very fine Heddon Expert#125. 2-1/2, 9 ft. bamboo fly rod, in excellent plus, partially restored condition. Varnish is original, lightly polished. Most guides and wraps are original, with a small number replaced on mid-section with new old-stock gold guides and silk matching the original wraps. All original wraps were renewed with very light coat of spar varnish. All rod sections are full length and straight, including the two full-length tips. The cane is smooth and evenly colored. Ferules fit tight and pop when pulled apart. Reel seat is in very good condition with slight tarnish to japanned surfaces at edges of reel foot keepers(see photos) Cork grip is clean and smooth. This fine#125'Expert' ranks with Heddon's top model#50. 60, and#100 rods, which all represent the best Heddon had to offer. The rod casts beautifully ... morewith a#6 line. Though it could be used with a WF7 if desired. It flexes well into the mid-section and has a medium dry fly action. It could be considered an"all around fly rod" for some fly fishermen who prefer a longer rod, capable of handling a variety of fly fishing on a variety of waters and with a range of fly sizes. Rod comes with original cloth bag. Heddon label bright, and sewn-in tag with light printing in good condition. Original maroon colored aluminum rod tube is in good used condition, with top. fine/rare bamboo fly rod Hand Made Wooden Case
This is a handmade wooden fly rod case. It is 57" long and 1 5/8" inside and easily holds up to a 9' two piece rod with extra tip and soft cover. The case is hexagonal and made of walnut and capped and trimmed with a white wood I believe is holly. I used it to hold a very nice and rare bamboo rod by Orvis and it makes a great decorator piece for a man-room. I purchased this rod case at a T.U. auction over 20 years ago and paid over $100. It would cost much more to make today. You will not be disappointed.

This Vintage Rod was refinished(by me) about 15 years ago and never used after that. Cork handle shows the wear of its age but it's also show it's character. This auction is for the SIX pieces of bamboo fishing rods. This old fly rod fishing rod lot includes 6 pieces of split bamboo fishing rods. The old fishing rod lot has THREE Cork handles. One Middle section and Two bamboo tips. The old fishing lure or old fishing rod collector may be able to put these to use with using the wire guides, cork handles or maybe the wood parts of the old rods? I am not sure if these used to be Heddon fly rods fishing rods or what? The old wood fishing rods have no markings on them. The three bottom sections of the old fly rod pieces do have cork handles. Vintage Horrocks Ibbotson. Utica, NY bamboo fly fishing rod 4 piece w sock &tube
A 1940's vintage fly rod in its original sock and metal tube. The sock still has it's colorful label from the Horrocks-Ibbotson Co in Utica. NY. It says the rod is a Hudson Model 2304 and that it's 9 feet long. The 3 piece rod is complete with an extra tip.making four pieces in the photograph. All wraps and eyes are in excellend condition. The only thing that looks like it has been used is the cork handle which has a divot out of it. Everything else is pristine. It is a Hex-shaped bamboo rod. Very pretty. Vintage Heddon #35 DeLuxe 9' 3/2 Bamboo Cane Fly Rod
Beautiful! New-looking Heddon#35 Deluxe 9' Fly Rod. Marked 2 1/2F(ferrule size) for HCH or D level floating line. All sections full length, wrapped honey tipped in black with intermediates. Blued ferrules. Wood spacer on DL seat. Period but apparently not original labeled bag and tube. Bag looks to fit 8 1/2' rod. Tube is proper length. Rod occasionally lawn cast but possibly never fished. Just another one of my favorites that the wife says must go. Sniff!

Vintage Heddon # 10 Blue Waters 8'6" 3/2 Bamboo Cane Fly Rod
A great rod from the Good Old Days of American rod-making. This Heddon# 10 was arguably the best $10 rod of its day. Heddon focused on rods for the working man. This was one of their least expensive. But it was still a solid value. Probably built between 1940 and 1952, from the dark jasper wraps. Marked#10-2F(ferrule size) HDH or E. All sections full length, marbleized white/brown tenite reel seat, original bag and tube. A nice little trout rod, probably saw some use, because cork grip is slightly soiled. Since I have owned it, lawn cast only. Wife says clean out my collection so we can move to a smaller house. What about her shoes?

Vintage De Ville Split Bamboo Fly Rod Case & 2 Rod Sections, Label - VGUC!!!

Thank you! This listing features a vintage wood De Ville Fly and Casting Set Split Bamboo case with 2 sections of a split bamboo rod. The case is made of a lightweight wood but I am unsure exactly what type it is. It is 33 1/2 inches long by 2 inches by 1 3/4 inches. There is a loose cube of wood about 3/4 by 3/4 by 1/2 inches. There are 2 hinges on the back and 2 friction latches on the front. All of which function as intended. It is aged a bit but looks to be in good condition for its age. The wood seems to be in good used condition with no splits or cracks. The rod sections appear to be the last ... more2 sections as they are quite thin. I assume there were originally 4 section with the eye at the very tip is 32 1/2 inches long and has 4 eyes. The next section allows the first one to attach nicely. It is 32 3/4 inches long and has 2 eyes. There is a loose eye in the case that is larger than any of those on the 2 sections and is shaped a bit differently. Please see the pictures for details.
