Vintage 3 Piece Gold Fish - Japan - Bamboo Fly Rod
This is one of three bamboo fly rods I purchased at an estate sale. I know little of fly rods. So please ask questions before bidding. I asked the grandson of the owner about the fly rod. He said his grandfather was a salesman and started traveling to Japan in the early 60's on buying trips. If you went to the sale, every other item at the sale was from Japan. I will do my best to describe the rod. It is a three-piece rod and it has a sticker on it with a picture of a fish and it says"Gold Fish Made in Japan. I assume Gold Fish is the manufacturer? The cork on the handle is very clean for its age. The handle section is approximately 32 3/4" long. The second section is approximately 33" long. The third section is approximately 32 3/4" long. It's my pleasure to offer at auction a Very Nice and Extremely Scarce 1900-1909 CLARK-HORROCKS& CO. PRESIDENT" 9 FT. 3/2 SPLIT BAMBOO FLY ROD WITH THE ORIGINAL LABELED FELT-LINED BAG& SELDOM SEEN FELT& LEATHER-COVERED WOODEN TIP HOLDER. An absolutely wonderful and elusive example from this early company that is seldom offered for sale, much less in this nice of condition. The Clark-Horrocks Co. of Utica, N.Y. directly evolved from the George A. Clark Co. in business since 1840) and would produce a complete line of rods from 1900 until around 1909, when they would further evolve into the famous Horrocks-Ibbotson Co. The"President" a strictly HAND-MADE rod, would be Clark-Horrocks' highest-grade fly rod. Underneath that, within a scrolled oval, reads"WARRANTED BY CLARK-HORROCKS CO. MAKERS- UTICA, N.Y. The metal snap on the tip holder is embossed with the fancy company logo(an entwined CH Co. something I've never seen before. Rod is made of very high-grade Calcutta cane with a nicely swelled butt and comes equipped with a whopping(20) English twist" snake guides(3 on the butt, 5 on the mid and 6 on each tip) quality German silver reinforced serrated ferrules& tip tops, engraved winding check, nicely knurled sliding band reel seat, solid cork grip and very closely wound in three colors of silk. There are a staggering 438 individual wraps on this rod. Built on an 18/64" ferrule and having the very delicate tips one would expect on a Trout rod(with 11/64" ferrules) It's surprising to see the reinforced ferrules. I have no idea what weight this would be rated as. Rod is in Fine condition for these and, with the exception of a few rewrapped guides, appears entirely original. Very Rare Near Mint Heddon #50 7'6" 4wt Deluxe Featherweight Bamboo Fly Rod
Here is a rod you do not see very often. Arguably Heddon's finest taper in its 2nd highest grade. Essentially never seen on the secondary market and never in this condition. I sold a rare Heddon 8' 1000 Deluxe Featherweight recently and this rod is just as nice and in an even more desirable taper. This is a near mint all orignal 7'6" Heddon 50 Deluxe Featherweight rod. Bag and tube are all orignal with nearly all of the tube label remaining and a slight dent on the tube cap. When I bought the rod it was unfished. But I had to take it out on the Roaring Fork near my home. I fished it with a 4DT Cortland Peach and it was a gem. An unbelievable 4wt that fished as good as its reputation. Everything about this rod is top notch. I'll let the pictures do the talking for this one.

Rod has three sections with each from top measuring: 34 1/4' 31 1/4" and 34 1/4" Now,unless a rod has a name, especially these very old bamboo rods,I know very little! Antique Montague Sunbeam 8' 6" split Bamboo Fly Rod and Tube
This is an antique 8 and half foot Montague Sunbeam Model split bamboo fly rod. It is in three sections with each section being about 34 inches. None of the sections show any evidence of ever being broken. The rod was made in the middle 1930's or early 1940's thus it is at least about 70 years old and can qualify as an antique. All the guides are on and appear sound. They are wrapped with black and gold thread. The only mark on the rod is a Montague decal near the handle with the words Montague and Sunbeam on it. The decal has some flaking. The reel seat is blue and the cork handle is in tack as it had been shellaced. There is a hook keeper at the rod end of the handle The overall appearance of the bamboo is excellent for it's age. No blistering or flaking) It has a colorful cloth bag and plastic tube for storage. Orvis Impregnated Manchester Bamboo 8' Fly Fishing Rod. Rare and unique collectible; includes the Aluminum tube and bag. Rod is in excellent usable condition. The eyes are all present; the handle is not missing any cork. There looks to be a small glue repair on cork; there are a couple of small dings on the aluminum tube; the bag is in near-perfect condition. The handle is hallmarked"Orvis Impregnated Manchester" Serial# 14969. The rod was built by Calvin Skinner& George Reid. Made 10-12-1953; Sold 4-2-1954. Weight- 4.5 oz. Edwards (Made for Folsom) bamboo fly rod
This is an Edwards made for Folsom Model#1525 8.0' 3/2. 4-5 wt. bamboo fly rod. I am pretty sure this rod is unfished, but I have lawn cast it. It comes with its original aluminum tube, rod sleave, and a canvas case for the aluminum tube. The rod has an agate stripper guide and one of the tips has an agate tip top. The tips are very delicate as can be seen in the pictures. Reference can be seen to these Edwards made Folsom rods in Patrick Garner's book, Playing With Fire: The Life and Fly Rods of E.W. Edwards on page 102 with a picture of a Model 1520. The Folsom Model 1525 was Folsom's higher grade rod. I believe this rod was made in the late 1920's. It is a very rare Edwards made rod especially in this Model 1525 configuration. This is a sweet 4 wt. and seems to handle very delicate casts.

Vintage Japanese Bamboo Combo Fly / Spinning Rod w/ Reel & Flies
Item is a like-new vintage(i'm guessing mid-late 50s) Japanese combo fishing kit. It comes in a plain wood box w/ spaces for the reel. Flys, etc and except for external wear on the box, the whole kit appears unused. The rod looks to be shellac'd bamboo and has all it's guides and wrapping intact. The handle is reversable to convert it back and forth from fly to casting. The box is 37" long and put together, the fly rod is 8' and the casting rod is 5' 4" long. The reel is a fly reel and the box says Olymicreel type no 500, Made in Japan Tokyo. Action is what you'd expect. Vintage 3-Piece Bamboo Fly Rod – 8’ 6” with extra tip. 5/6 WT Line
Vintage 3-Piece Bamboo Fly Rod– 8’ 6” with extra tip. Each piece measures 35” The extra tip is slightly shorter and measures 33 5/8” I think it would cast a 5/6 wt line jus fine. I would describe this rod as being in very good– great condition. I am selling this because my original goal was to strip and refinished this rod to make it new rod. However. It is in such great shape, I think it would be a waste to refinish it. Couple of things: I am not sure who the manufacturer is. There are no labels. Ferrules are in great shape. Nice pop when you remove them, Cork grip looks new. Looks likered and gold/tan wraps, The full size tip does have a set to it. The wraps look very good. Both in great shape, except for the tip top line guide on one has a crack in it. Rod throws well. Finish and cork handle as well as the reel seat and guides. VINTAGE RARE CUSTOM PAT 1906 TH CHUBB 3-4 WT SPLIT BAMBOO FLY FISHING ROD This auction is for a vintage custom refinished three piece 9’ T.H. Chubb split bamboo fly rod circa early 1900’s with original felt line d form f itting tube. I believe this to be a T.H. Chubb rod based on the reel seat. Winding check and nickel brass ferrules. It has patent May 15, 1906 on the reel seat band. I would estimate it would balance with a modern day three-four weight forward line. The 5” cork handle has some wear but is fully functional. The 5” nickel plated brass sliding ring reel seat would indicate the rod was manufactured prior to 1920. It is in very good condition. There are three snake eye guides on the mid section. Five on the tip section and a snake eye guide on the bottom section. All of the guides are new. The guides have been professionally custom ... morewrapped. The rod fits together perfectly when assembled and has the pop sound when removed. There is a very slight natural set in the tip section which will NOT affect the casting or use of the rod. This is a Skinner era Battenkill. Serial number 52487. I purchased on consignment at a Connecticut fly shop about 5 years ago. Where it was for sale by the original owner. Original sack, the one that forces you to put the butt section ferrule facing down. No repairs, cork excellent, seat in great shape, ferrules pop nicely. All rod sections and tube serial numbers match. Works well with either a 5wt or 6wt line.

I bought it from an English gentleman around 1980 and have never fished with it. Comes in original Hardy Bros. cloth bag(no aluminum case) and with original protective ferrule plug. F.E. Thomas Special Bamboo Fly Rod- 1936 Browntone
I am selling my 1936 F.E. Thomas Special Browntone 9ft. 3 pcs, 5 ½ oz vintage bamboo fly rod. This rod was passed down in the family. And I do not have much history on it. It appears to be restored at some point in its life and is in immaculate condition. There is plastic still on the cork handle. I have had this reviewed by experts at Thomas and they have confirmed the year 1936 by the diamond stamp on the rod butt. The screw locking section of the reel seat appears to have been replaced during refinishing as well. The rod comes with an extra tip that is missing the top rod guide. Here is a great vintage Bamboo Fly Rod that comes with a nice green zip up case and one canvas sock. There are three tips and two essential pieces. I think, to make a 9 foot pole. The rod is unmarked and so I don't know what kind it is. An impressive vintage rod- appears to be in good shape- I am selling many rods from the collection of an avid fisherman and I will say that this one stands out. Now. These pieces do show some signs of age and wear, one eyelet on the handle portion needs reattaching. Up for auction is this fabulous vintage split bamboo fly fishing rod. This beautiful old 3 part rod is a complete 4 piece set which includes two identical tips. This sturdy well-crafted rod has a wonderful red agate stripping guide and is complete with its original main canvas case. And original metal tube with separate canvas case for the two tips. It is marked in gold script lettering"Belmont" From the information I could find on Belmont rods. I believe it is a Montague rod and was made between 1939& 1952. It measures about 8 1/2 feet long. With each piece measuring about 34 1/2" long. This great vintage rod was recently discovered in a very old estate and is in amazing condition. It looks like it was never used. And has been safely packed in its case for years. It has sturdy secure ferrules and guides, and complete cork ... moregrip which is darkened a little. Vintage Wright& McGill 9&1/2 foot Granger special Bamboo Fly Rod w/ original tube. This is a 3 piece rod with an extra tip included. The line guides are perfect and the thread wrapping is tight I do not no why but thread on tip pieces are red not gold the center rod is longer by about an 1/8 in and there are no loose ends. The finish on the rod is excellent. The cork handle is in very good condition very clean. The metal of the reel seat is very clean and reads Made by Wright and McGill I was told by the man that sold it to me he bought it in 1933 for 30.00. Vintage bamboo fly rod parts-21 sections with 5 reel seats and cork handles
For the vintage bamboo rod restorer. Maker, or repair specialist. a lot of 21 unmatched sections from old bamboo fly rods. This is a parting-out lot of genuine rod parts/pieces. The lot includes 5 base sections, with cork handles and reel seats, 10 mid-sections, and 6 top pieces with tip-top guides. There are 14 male ferrules and 8 female ferrules. Some sections are complete with nice wraps and guides, others have just one guide. Two cork handles have been recently sanded. All of the decals are missing from the rods, but some clearly had manufacturer decals during their active fishing life. None of the rod sections have been broken/snapped- these are the leftovers after the broken/snapped section was tossed. The case is a bit faded and has some discoloration at the top. The rod itself is in very good shape overall. The colors are nice and bright and the eyes and stickers still in place. Shows some very light use. The cork handle is still quite clean. A bit of scuffing on the bottom metal part of the handle. Untitled Document Up for bids is this Vintage 9 Foot Hexagonal Bamboo Flyrod in very good condition. It is a 3 piece construction. With the original brass fittings on it. Unfortunately. I can't find a name on it anywhere. Also. The last section is a little bowed as you can see. The handle has some wear on it. But there is nothing serious as far as its functionality goes. There are no big cracks or anything. The hexagonal rod itself is in fine condition. The original brass fittings and the eyelets are in very good condition, with no dents in the brass. And no unraveling of the fastenings for the eyes. The fit is very tight between the pieces. And one end was apparently scrubbed a little bit in order to get it to fit. But no damage was done to it. With a little work you can have a very fine functioning fly rod, or you could restore it completely. ... moreThe original end is in very good condition as well. I'm not sure what to make of the end piece. Although it is very solid and functional. This vintage flyrod will make a fine addition to your collection. Item is a pristine vintage pre-owned example of a better quality split bamboo(impregnated? 9 1/2 foot 4-piece fly rod(Orvis/ or Orvis kit rod possibly-Orvis reel seat? It is being sold as pre-owned. But it appears to have seen little or no use- perhaps it is nos. The rod appears to be unmarked, other than having the number 3626 marked on all four pieces.and it is likely a custom rod. It is in a green cloth storage sock with an aluminum storage tube. The only thing that I can find wrong with this rod is there there is a quide missing on one of the tips. This beautiful. Vintage, 9 ft, 4 piece with an extra tip, and an original felt lined grooved wooden holder, and also with a quality made reproduction canvas carrying case was made by the T.H. Chub Company of Post Mills, Vermont. The circa is 1920's. Many hours with the labor of love went into the restoration of this vintage fishing artifact by a talented Michigan rod restorer. I found this group of bamboo fly rods at an estate sale in a corner all bundled together-there are about 20 pieces in all-the only one I could find marked was a Goodwin Granger Pat. 1938 Denver Colorado. Thjis rod had 3 pieces tied together but the tip piece is a lot lighter in color than the other 2 so I don't know. It has been re-varnished and wraps re-sealed w/epoxy kit on a rod rolling fixture. The PVC tube was made by me for protection during storage and transportation. One cap is glued and other slides off, both have a thick black rubber padding for additional protection and hole for venting. I also have had this for sometime and was bought when I was going thru the crazy phase of buying only bamboo rods. I will use the excuse of my son learning to fly-fish caused another spark in getting more rods. The rod is in excellent condition and you will be well happy to have. It is a medium action joy to cast with a 5 weight forward line. I have only used it maybe a times a small stream ... morein the first year I owned it here in Colorado. It has also just been sitting in the corner and needs to be on a stream bringing in a trout. It is a nice rod when you see and hold it. I will promise to have this well packed for the new owner.
