VINTAGE Horrocks Ibbotson Lucky Strike BAMBOO FLY ROD w/ cases early 1930's
You are bidding on vintage Horrocks Ibbotson"Lucky Strike" bamboo fly rod in great condition. It also comes with an extra tip and cloth sack& plastic tube. We don't know much about fishing rods but will do our best to describe everything about this rod. The Horrocks Ibbotson label is over half missing but the Lucky Strike label is intact. Based on our research based on what is left of the label this rod was made between 1929 to 1933. It is the elongated double diamond with Utica NY. in the middle. The section with the handle measures approx. 36 1/2" the middle section measures approx. 37 1/4" the tip measures approx. 34 1/2" and the extra tip measures approx. 37 1/4" Please look at our pictures carefully to examine the fishing rod. VTG HEDDON Bamboo Fly Rod #10 9' 2 1/2 F HDH 6 Wt for TROUT
Here is a very nice Heddon#10 9 foot 2 1/2 ferrule bamboo fly rod. I do not know the history of this rod. But I can tell you what I see. I will answer all of the usual questions. All sections are the same length and very straight- no noticable sets. All of the guides and ferrules are tight with no movement or clicks. The ferrules fit together very well with a slight snugness and they have that familiar suction pop when pulled apart. The grip and reel seat are in excellent condition, with ever so slight ridging,if any at all. The sock is obviously a little ratty and the tube has no cap. The original owners name has been professionally added to one of the butt flats and looks to be original to the rod. The varnish is excellent and has a very nice sheen to it. I absolutely love the caramel color and graining to this rod, it is beautiful. With ... moreall of that being said, I would classify this as a top notch fishing tool, not a collectors grade, as most 9 footers are not. An HDH is equivalent to a modern 6 wt and I do not know about you, but most of the waters that I fish, require this exact size, a 9' 6 wt. This is not a spring creek rod, it is a medium river trout rod. Shipping is $12.50 to the lower 48.

Please note that even though there are no markings on this rod it is a Vintage South Bend split bamboo fly rod in good used condition. The"Comeficient" grip with its thumb indentation and"Ventilation grooves" were unique to South Bend rods. This is a 2 section rod with an extra tip. All sections original and equal length of 42 inches each for a total length of 7 feet. All of the hardware is original and in good condition. The hook keeper, one guide and the bases of each ferrule have been re-wrapped. The rod has the patented"Comeficient" grip with"Ventilation Grooves" cork handle in good condition. The reel seat is the Patented"Lite-Lock" reel seat in red Bakelite with. An up-locking seat in fully workable and good condition. This seat was introduced in 1942. The rod is wrapped in green jasper ... morewraps. An illustration of a very similar South Bend rod may be found on page 180 of Michael Sinclair's book, Bamboo Rod Restoration Handbook.I would place this rod in time at circa 1950. RL Winston 8'6'' 4 1/2 oz SF Build Bamboo (Cane) Fly Rod 2/2
I am selling my Merrick era Winston rod serial number is 9471. This rod was completed 10/27/67 in the San Francisco shop. Rod is in good condition with the butt section having a couple of repair wraps. I have had two individuals. One rod maker and one appraiser look at the wraps and they were unable to determine why the wraps were placed. The tips also have a minor sets. The tip section has a groove that has formed in the tip top. I have included photos to show this. The rod builder I had mentioned above said this groove although noticeable, was not something to worry about. Now, the second tip section is for another Winston rod. The second rod tip has serial number 1684-1 which is a rod built by Glenn Brackett in Montana that was completed in 1977. This tip is just a little lighter than the 9471 which leads me to believe it was made for ... morea 4 1/4 oz rod and casts wonderfully. This tip section has no damage. And the tube, it has traveled the world. The rod sock has some dirt stains, no tears. I am selling the rod because I will most likely hardly ever fish it. It is fun to cast and punches a DT6 into the wind with authority. I have lighter cane rods that I fish on a regular basis. This is a very well made rod with many many years of life left in it. This rod was purchased in France over 30 years ago(not available in the U.S. Pezon et Michel fiberglass rods are rare but those with a staggered butt/tip are almost non existent. This auction is for a Horrocks- Ibbotson built bamboo fly rod in need of some work. This two piece. One tip, split cane rod is 7 ft long and should cast a 4 of 5 wt line. Original black ten ite reel seat is in good condition- see picture. Remna nts of the original blue thread still remain on the rod but all of the guides are missing- rod needs to be ref ini shed. Original tip top is still attached. Cork handle looks to have been cleaned and is in excellent condition. Original white ink denoting Pocano model. Original H-I sticker is heavily scratched and most of it is missing- see picture. No sock or tube but rod will be packaged well. Touradif Bamboo fly rod (Payne?), signed Abercrombie and Fitch
This is a very unique bamboo rod with a lot of historical importance. The Touradif rod was used for tournament casting and sold by Abercrombie and Fitch. It is widely speculated that Jim Payne made these rods. This particular rod has been refinished. It is a 3/1 configuration with an overall assembled length of exactly 8' However. Each section varies in size. The butt is 32.5" the mid is 33" and the tip is 32" The ferrule fit of the tip section is a little loose which gives a clicking feel when the rod is cast. It is fishable through. I fished it a while back for bream. The tip top guide and stripper guide is agate. The bag is new replacement and the tube is a vintage Peerless tube.

On the rod itself it has written"Orvis Imbreanated" Superfine" 6'1 7/8oz" H.D.G.6) I can not find a crack or splinter anywhere on this rod. I have taken pictures of all the eyes and the cork. It is a one solid piece which as you know is rare. Everything on the metal case matches up with the rod. I have had it appraised by two guys and one says its worth between $1000-$1200 and the other says between $1200-$1500. If you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact me. Vintage 4 piece Horrocks-Ibbotson Co. Roosevelt fly fishing rod 12' feet long with cloth storage bag. Made in Utica. N.Y. This rod is in good condition. There is a few marks on it. I doubt if it has ever been used. There is evidence that the reel had been mounted on it at one time. There are minor scratches on the chrome bottom. The cork handle is intact with some discoloring. The pieces do fit together but I am not going to force them. Looks like the end piece has a darker area so not sure if a reel was there or if a piece is missing and it does have an original line that is attached to the tip. The tip isn't brass. The rod has characteristics of a Horrocks Ibbotson Utica. NY rod model. The bottom section measure 37 ¼” mid is 37” and tip section is 34 ¼” I would estimate the fly line weight at a four– five. The 5 ¼” cork handle had a chip which was repaired with wood filler and sanded. It is in fully functional condition. The screw down lock reel seat in great shape. There are four snake eye guides on the mid section. Five on the tip and a stripper guide/hook keeper on the bottom section. All of the wraps are solid and guides are tight. The rod fits together perfectly when assembled. There is a natural set which will not affect its casting performance. ... moreI meticulously stripped the old varnish. Horocks Ibbotson Featherlight Bamboo Fly Rod, 7.5', 3/2, very nice
H& I Featherlight Bamboo Fly Rod. 7 1/2' 3 piece, 2 tips, original form case(good condition) original bag for the case(a tear at bottom, otherwise fair condition) ready for some minor work and then off to the stream, river or pond. Seemingly all original- reel seat quite good with one area where the brass is showing through, butt section has all wraps and good thin varnish, very straight with an agate like stripper, ferrule needs to be reglued(but of good quality) the mid section seems already refinished- wraps are close but a hair off, slight bend upwards 1/3 of the way up the mid(a pretty easy straightening job) ferrle is of good quality(needs regluing) both tips are complete and wraps and varnish are quite good and seem original, both tips have slight bend to the left from storage(it seems) all guides are there, except missing ... moreone tip top, ferrule fit is very tight mid to butt and secure at mid to tips- neat reel seat with both the sliding bands and the end cap, cork is soft with no ridging, factory label at 90% with the Featherlight label at 99% The mid is slightly short by 3/8ths of an inch- could be made that way, maybe not. these were pretty pricey in their day, cane work is very good and the intermediates are special- pretty rare intact- nice flaming in cane areas, a fine 5 weight- maybe a 6 weight in real close. Would be real fun to fish an affordable, well built, vintage cane rod on your favorite stream or pond. This fine rod will be shipped USPS Priority Mail. Insured. This 8 1/2"3 pc, 1 tip rod has been refinished. Retaining the decal on the shaft, it is in very good condition, the handle appears to have been cleaned and has no chips or missing pieces. All the sections are the correct length, the tip has a very slight set. The action is slightly stiff and would be a fine usable rod. Comes with a non original sack.

bamboo fly rod, BAMBOO FERRULED hollow built
Bamboo ferruled fly rod. No n.s ferrule- bamboo on bamboo. It's Later in the season now. And dry fly is here! so seeing as I change my rod selection to lighter ones I decided to sell off this one. This is a bamboo ferruled two piece rod that's hollow built. that means the action is that of a one piece rod that breaks down into two sections. where as nickel silver ferrules have some loss of energy through casting with the transition of materials( bamboo metal- bamboo again) this rod features a bamboo ferrule. one solid material-bamboo- all through out the construction. the ferrule is very tight. and it is wrapped with a double layer of clear silk. and dipped in varnish to build up a bit thicker layer. It is a heavy rod. I did cheat! the whole rod is wrapped in clear silk so its not framed in black like I usually do. But every one seems ... moreto like it better. they say it looks like just a bamboo stick with guides' glued' on. I origional had it wrapped in brown. but took it off because a new thread preserver left dark spots in the thread work. so being out fishing for steelhead I cheated and re-wrapped just in solid clear. B.F s too. This IS a heavy ish rod. and can be cast all day with ease. it can also for a fact handle big fish. 6-9 lb rainbow s. Med. sized pike, and very large bass were all caught and had no problems on this rod! built it in the fall for salmon and the rainbow run here on the great lakes, so I used it for a bit to catch them now I am using lighter rods again for the summer. OK: 7' 6" bamboo ferruled rod. a touch over a 6wt 1876 grains with an AA chart its about 6.24 wt rod. I also made it to be Med-Fast action a touch softer then my regular fast action rods. I wanted to be able to flip out very large streamers and be able to ubsorb the shock of large fish. witch it does! The blank weighed 2.2 oz. hollow built. Sealed with linseed oil then rubbed varnish with several several thin coats of varnish, Black components to match the 3" flamed pattern. swelled butt section. and

M. Montagne Bamboo Fly Rod - Prototype Masters 8 EX+ NR
This auction is for a very rarely seen Michael Montag ne built bamboo fly rod in excellent to near mint cond iti on. An aysmetrical quad des ign as opposed to the traditional hex with many un usual rod buil ding elements unique to this very gifted maker. This is an extremely powerful 9 ft. Two piece. Two tip, split cane rod. I am an average caster at best but distances of 100' + are not difficult with this rod an d a basic bonef ish line and would be unbelievable with a shooting head. Mr. M ontagne was way ahead of his time as a rod builder. This one is a 9' prototype from his Masters 8 series- serial number 3280 as etched into the cap of rod tube as well. He was one of the very first to utilize computer programs to aid in his rod des igns which ultimately result ed in his rectangular quad s. Very unusual and unique to the maker as ... morewell is the seat design utilizing the shaft of the cane and unusual hardware. Red accent wraps tipped black- see pictu re. Light tan translucent wraps on the guides and red wraps tipped black at the ferrules and top of gr ip- all look to be original and in excellent to mint condition. Unique tip tops are also wrapped red with single and double black tipping wraps to denote tip one from tip two- see picture. Two mildrum style stripper guides on butt section with first snake guide mounted on the top of the female ferrule( another character istic unique to Montagne) Relatively s hort. 6 1/4 inch long cork handle is in excellent condition. Rod is inked in black: M. Montagne on t op side and; Prototype 9' M asters 8 3280 on the opposite- see pictures. Original signed sock and tube- a classic Montagne trait with the blue sock material of s ign ature sock. Unfortunately the collar on the tube has split and is held together with a rubber band. Currently the entire piece of hardware is pulled from the end of the tube as a single slip cap(wor ks well) but could easily be re-glued and repaired by a professio nal- see picture. Heddon, Folsom 1510 Bamboo Fly Rod, 8', 3/2 - 1 3/4ferrule - nice
Heddon made. Folsom 1510, 8 foot, 3 piece, 2 tips Bamboo Fly Rod, with factory tip form(excellent) and factory bag(poor condition with tear at bottom) very nice condition. Script reads" Folsom, 1510- 8' Typical to old Heddons, the varnish is in meltdown and the rod should be stripped(use denatured alcohol if you wish to preserve original wraps) and revarnished. Very nice- early Heddon reel seat is in excellent condition, cork is soft and grip in perfect shape, all sections are very straight with a slight unstraightness at the mid female ferrule( that should be properly reglued of course) tips are arrow straight and show excellent delicacy and versatility, to my eyes measures at the wanted 1 3/4 ferrule( fine 4-5 weight in my hand) early Heddon show the action is more medium, very versatile and wanted 8 footer, ferrule fit is excellent(with ... morepops) and tight to the wood( you may wish to reglue all ferrules before he rod sees action) missing the stripper and one snake on the mid- all other wraps are very secure and could be easily saved. Upon intial examination, the ferrules were clean as could be- this rod has seen little/if any use- just that old Heddon varnish meltdown. These early 1 3/4ferrule Heddons are fine trout and pond rods- would be very nice on any stream, river, or pond. This fine rod will be shipped USPS Priority Mail. Insured. The only damage to the rod is at the base of the cork handle where a portion of the cork is missing. See photos. I do not see a name brand anywhere on the pole so I am not sure what kind it is. Someone will be very LUCKY to own this rod.It has had a reel mounted on it but certainly not fished more than a few times. Purchased at an estate auction. This is a 1960s TONKA QUEEN Horrock Ibbotson Dry Fly Action 7'9" Bamboo Fly Fishing Rod. It is in excellent condition. Has 2 heads. The bag is a little worn but the rod appears to have had extremely light or no use at all. The sections are about 39 1/2 inches each. It is a 3 peice rod with a butt. Center section, and two heads all in excellent condition. The bag indicates it's weitght is 4 3/4 ounces.

Halstead. George H. 8'10" 3-piece bamboo fly rod. This 5 oz. rod has, unless I have badly missed my guess. Been refinished by Thomas& Thomas back in the days when they used nylon instead of silk when matching colors. Having said that. This rod is in mint-restored condition, and I know it has not seen sunlight in over twenty years. It has Halstead¹s down locking reel seat that has"G. H. Halstead Rods" stamped on the locking nut. It carries his own ferrules(17 and 11 64ths) and two tip sections that are full length. The quality of the refinishing and varnish work is as good as it gets. And the boys at T&T have preserved the nice agate guide that Mr. Halstead originally mounted on the rod. This is a trout rod. Not a salmon model. And when I put it together it appeared to balance a DTF 6 maybe a WFF7 line. ... moreIt comes in the original Halstead brass capped tube and cloth bag. Halstead rods are hard to find.
