It's my pleasure to offer at auction a Very Nice 1936-1938 HEDDON NO.20"BILL STANLEY'S FAVORITE" 8-2 FT. 3/2, STANDARD TROUT ACTION" SPLIT BAMBOO FLY ROD WITH THE ORIGINAL BAG& HEDDON ALUMINUM TUBE. Introduced as James Heddon's Sons' second fly rod model in 1926, the popular No.20 would sell through 1955 as one of their higher-grade rods. Because this example is equipped the up-locking pyralin reel seat, we know it was built from 1936 to 1938, the only three years that reel seat was used. Heddon's Cleo Hanley has handwritten"Heddon" diagonally along three flats and"20" on one flat, just above the hook keeper. The reel seat's locking ring is stamped"PAT. NO.1624052" the 1927 Patent number assigned to Heddon for the screw-locking reel seat. Built on a No.2 ferrule(what ... moreHeddon referred to as"Standard Trout" action) from high-grade browntone Tonkin cane and comes equipped with extra tip section, gun-metal hardware, orange agate stripping guide, Tungsten guides& tip tops, hand-welted and serrated ferrules, flip-ring hook keeper, wound-over winding check, black plastic butt cap, screw-locking"Hold-Tite" pyralin reel seat, solid cork Heddon Half-Wells grip and wound in maroon silk tipped in gold. Rod is in solid Fine to Very Fine condition, showing just light to moderate wear associated with normal use. Rod has been lightly restored with new varnish, which remains pristine. Bamboo is perfect, with no splits cracks or delamination whatsoever. All four sections are the correct equal length and are quite straight. All wraps are solid and complete. All guides, tip tops, ferrules, hook keeper, winding check and butt cap are in fine condition. The reel seat works perfectly. The cork grip remains in good condition, with no ridging. This auction is for a vintage 4 piece bamboo fly rod set. Manufacturer sticker worn but looks something like"Cordle" Has 2 and 3 pole setup. Botttom pole measures 33" in length. Single pole also measures 33" so 2 pole setup measures 65-66" total. 3 pole setup measures 8 feel long. All the guides appear to be in place. Some may be a little bent but all the wrapping seems secure. Comes with a broken wood box that has some hooks and other fishing supplies. Up for auction from an estate is a South Bend. 290 Bamboo Fly Fishing Rod that is 7 1/2ft in length, 2-piece with two tips. The handle has the original foil label and all in good condition. One tip shows some wear on the windings on the tip and the second eye, otherwise all in good condition. The other tip is like new. Included are the original rod bag that is in great condition with no holes or tears with a label that describes the rod and the carrying tube that has some scrapes and rust on the bottom. The label on the carrying case is readable and in good condition. Please look at the pictures and if you have any questions, please ask; since I do not accept returns on estate items.

Included are the plastic sliders covering the storage compartment for flys, hooks, etc. This is good because many old boxes have these missing! Rod is in good shape for its age. The rod does have one tip that the ferrule is coming loose from the bamboo tip portion but I am sure something that an experienced fisherman/pole collector could fix. The blue/green looking stopper on the bottom of the fishing pole base wants to fall out when you pick the pole up. These seems common for old poles and tends to happen just from age, nothing major but wanted to mention it. Everything else on the bamboo fly rod pieces seems intact and good, again refer to pictures for exact conditions. South Bend bamboo fly rod-No. 24, 8 1/2 ft-vintage
This auction is for a fantastic old South Bend fly rod. It is the No. 24. 8 1/2 ft. The decal on the lower end of the rod, just above the cork handle, recommends using D or HDH line. This rod is in very good, original condition. However, there is an area near the top end, that seems to have a different pattern to the windings. I have not seen this on other bamboo rods. It is possibly a professional repair, but since I recently purchased this rod, and I am not an expert, I only convey my observations. I express my opinion, in the effort to be accurate. The rod looks like it has been used, but cared for. Just perfect for the person who collects these vintage fishing items. I will be listing another rod, as well, so check my listings. This auction is for another very nice vintage South Bend bamboo fly rod. This is model No. 57. 8 1/2ft. This rod is in really beautiful shape from top to bottom. All windings look tight, and seem right. The finish is very nice, consistent, and original, in my opinion. The cork handle has some light spots, inconsistent with the normal dark color from being used. Not sure what caused that, but they don't downgrade the value very much, if at all. Goodwin Granger 8 1/2' Bamboo Cane Fly Rod
Goodwin Granger 8 1/2' 3/2 8642 5 weight bamboo fly rod. A tremendous rod on its condition. Maker, and model. Rod was in a west coast collector's hands for decades. It appears unused other than lawn casting. Everything is original. Tight, clean, and perfect. I've fly cast with bamboo about 20 years, and this is the best condition I've ever seen an old classic rod in. This Granger in hand looks like a new rod that was gently fished about 20 times. Absolutely no ridging on the cork. The Goodwin Granger shop made the original Grangers. The later Grangers are Wright McGill Grangers. The Goodwin rods have a sweet medium action. And people love them. The later Wright McGill Grangers are nearly identical in appearance, but have slightly faster tippier actions. The 8642 model is an 8 1/2' 3 piece 2 tip for 5 weight-arguably the ... moreideal all around trout rod. There's lots of Granger 8642's out there. Some of which are Goodwin rods, but you'll have a long day finding one in this condition. Original bag and tube, which incidentally dates this rod to 1941. Tube label is about 99% perfect. The bottom section measures 35” Mid is 33 ½” and the tip section is 31” I would estimate the fly line weight at a four-five The 7 ¼’ cork handle and screw down lock reel seat are in great functional condition. There are two snake eye guides on the mid section. Four on the tip and guide/hook keeper on the bottom section. The rod fits together perfectly when assembled and is straight. There are overwraps on the two female ferrules as can see from the pictures which do not affect the assembly of use of the rod. I meticulously stripped the old varnish. Refinished with four coats of spar varnish and completed it with high quality wood rubbing ... morecompounds. The ferrules have been buffed and polished. The honey colored bamboo cane and varnish finish are are gorgeous. This would be a great rod for tight conditions on brushy creeks and streams; just in time for the spring trout season. VTG 1900 H L LEONARD BAMBOO FLY ROD 8' 3/2 BELL GUIDES MINT ORIG TIP TUBE&SOCKS
Offering a very rare vintage(1900) H. L. Leonard 8' 3/2 bamboo fly rod in Mint Condition. It has bell guides. Early waterproof ferrules stamped with patent dates(PAT.SEP. 3 1872& PAT. OCT. 26. 1875) on the butt female ferrule. Also with nice ferrule plugs. The stripping guide and both tips have the nice clear agate insert. Traditional red Chinese silk guide and intermediate wraps are just perfect. Cork has slight reel impressions but nearly flawless with 5/16" ring configuration. Reel seat most likely very early Chubb with very high NiS content of the era. Could not find one exactly like it in Rod Crafting by Jeffrey L. Hutton but assume a Chubb as Leonard used them often. Each section crafted exactly at 32 5/8. One tip with barely noticeable set from last bell guide to tip. It comes with the original H. L. Leonard brass capped ... moretip tube and original tip sock. Also with original sock for the entire rod as it still has the hanging tag string with round brass ring but tag long gone. Rod comes in a nice newer tube as seen in photos for protection. Ferrule fits are nice as expected with a quality Leonard rod. All the hardware is exceptionally clean. Shiny and well preserved especially given its age. The reel seat, band, bell guides and ferrules are totally clean, shiny with no oxidation, swirling or scratching to the surfaces. For not having a hook keeper the cork is actually quite exceptional with that being the only flaw in the rod I can find with 5-6 hook impressions with very small hook spots. One hook spot has maybe a 1/8" rectangular by 1/16" deep divot from a hook. This rod is quite an exceptional piece and should interest serious collectors. Personally. I would never fish it as I am such a Bozo I would probably break it! Not much else to say as the rod and Leonard quality speaks for itself. For its age and being a high quality, early Leonard it should probably be in a fishing museum, on display at Cabellas, or something- your home or office? If anyone has info in this regard, please let

Don't forget about ferrule fit loss. It appears that it is factory wrapped. But it isn't a traditional style fly rod. It comes with tunnel/trumpet guides and a saltwater reel seat(missing butt cap) The stripper guide may have been rewrapped because there is some bleaching. Horrocks Ibbotson Registered Canada Creek Bamboo Fly Rod 9' 6wt.
The Horrocks Ibbotson Registered series bamboo rods were the company's higher end rods at the time. They used higher end components and the rod number was registered to the buyer. This rod is in beautiful condition for its age. It's registered number is 614-9. I don't think it was fished much. There is one snake guide missing on middle section of the rod. See photo, easily replaced. And one of the male ferules on one of the tips is loose, also and easy fix. All sections are of equal length, and never broken. It includes the original rod sock and a replacement Heddon rod tube, not pictured.

Up for auction a rather nice CIRCA 1920-1930 MONTAGUE"FOOTHILLS" 9 FT. 3/2 SPLIT BAMBOO*TRADE* FLY ROD WITH CLOTH BAG& ALUMINUM TUBE. This was a Trade rod built by Montague for and sold exclusively by Sears, Roebuck& Co. who owned the trademarked"Foothills" brand name of fishing rods. Montague was still supplying Sears with this model at least as late as 1938, but I believe this is an earlier example from roughly 1920 to 1930. It is identical to Montague's Model No.500-1/2 from their regular rod lineup. Foothills" is nicely inked in script on the rodshaft, the only marking on these rods. Built with Calcutta cane and comes equipped with extra tip section, steel stripper, new stainless snake guides, new chromed tip tops, Montague's"waisted" welted ferrules, NPB winding check, standard Montague/Chubb ... moresliding band reel seat, solid cork grip and wound in red silk, with intermediates. Rod is in about Very Good to Fine condition, partially restored to original. Shows moderate overall wear and a few glue lines, but it's ready to enhance one's collection or be put right to work. Bamboo is free of damage, with all four sections the correct equal length and virtually arrow-straight. Varnish, wraps and guides are new and are pristine. Ferrules are also damage-free and still pop when separated. Reel seat works perfectly. Winding check and solid cork grip remain in good condition. The cloth bag, possibly original, hasn't been near as lucky. Shows overall wear and several holes, but still remains solid and serviceable. Put up in a period aluminum tube, which is also in Very Good condition and shows a few dings near the top. Cap twists on tightly and securely. A nice example of an early version of these Trade rods from Sears/Montague that don't often show up for sale. To be sold with a very low starting bid and NO RESERVE. Vintage Bamboo fly rod end sections. There are 3 of them. All three are complete with circle tip. The line guides, and the metal male joining sleeve.They seem really fragile. They measure 36 1/2, 34 1/2, and 33 inches from tip to joining end. No manufacturers marks or other markings. Eyes seem tight. Good to add to your rod parts to complete them. The case is light weight wood with black velvet covering it. There are 4 grooved slots to place each part of the pole. There is a metal end on one side, but the other is missing. Rough, but working. There are 9 eyes and it breaks down to 3 pieces– It has a 4 th extra piece or extra end that appears that the end eye is missing. On the top of the 2 nd staff not sure if it’s missing one of its eyes or if it’s supposed to be like that. Each piece is 34.75”long– pieces feel tight. I didn’t shove them into each ... morefirmly because they feel that they would be hard to get apart. Written on the pole is 377-8.5n Skinny pieces have an aluminum case and 2 larger pieces are stored in a canvas bag. There is a hole in the end of the canvas bag that should be repaired. This auction is for ONE spool of Rice's vintage silk thread known as Chinese Red. Size 00. 100 yards. This was manufactured in what I call Early Era or pre-WWII. This was used on several models of Wright& McGill, many H.L. Leonard, Montague, F.E. Thomas as this is one of the most popular silk thread colors. This color should be in the spares box of every bamboo fly rod collector as so many rods use this color. Probably the only color more often seen on bamboo rods is the color black. This is my favorite Chinese Red for Leonards/Granger/FE Thomas rods. The Rice Silk Mill was closer to the Catskills and FE Thomas' rod shop than Gudebrod so I'm guessing the Rice silk might have been the OEM thread for those bamboo rod makers. About Chinese Red. This thread is essential if you are just replacing a few existing wraps and not rewrapping ... morethe entire rod. This matches the vintage Leonards. The rod number is 4089 and it was built by Cal Skinner on 7/16/1947. It is called a Bakelite 18/64 and 12/64 Ferrules. It is 8 1/2 ft. long and is 3 pieces. I purchased this rod many years ago and it had a broken tip. In 2001 I contacted Orvis and shipped them the entire rod. Orvis built a new tip. Stripped and rewrapped the butt and mid sections and replaced all the guides. When I received it back it was like a new rod. I placed it in the tube 13 years ago and just took it out today. This is a great rod and someone needs to use it. I can provide all the documentation from Orvis or you can contact Orvis yourself. They keep all records of vintage rods. The varnish still looks fantastic and I have taken many close-ups for you to see the condition of the rod. All 4 sections are equal in length. Straight, and there are no splits or cracks. The cork grip looks fantastic as well. The inner cloth bag is also in great shape; a little dirty, but that's it. The aluminum tube is missing the cap. The label on the aluminum tube is missing parts of it and the tube itself has a lot of cosmetic wear. But no dents and it's still straight. VINTAGE BAMBOO FLY ROD/ CASTING ROD SLIP SWITCH COMBO
Vintage Slip Switch-style bamboo fly/ casting combo. There isn't a manufacturer's designation on the rod or hardware except for a'700' in script just above the foregrip. The rod measures about 5'7" when assembled as a casting rod and about 8'7" as a fly rod. The tip section of the casting portion and the middle fly rod portion are equal in length. The fly rod tip is about 3/8" shorter. The finish appears to be original and is in very nice condition with few blemishes/ hazy/ rough spots. The male ferrule of the bottom section has a hairline crack. But still fits well in either end of the butt section. The other ferrules fit very nicely together as well, though the bamboo shafts are just a tad loose inside them from dried/ aged adhesive. The casting tip section is missing its bottom guide and the middle ... moreguide is loose and needs to be re-wound. The guides and wraps on the fly sections look quite good. Both tips have a slight to moderate set in them. Will be carefully packaged and shipped Priority Mail.

Beautiful MONTAGUE FISHKILL Split Bamboo Fly Rod w/ Original Tube
Montague Fishkill split bamboo fly rod with the original and correct rod tube. This 9 ft. fly rod is in great shape as seen in the pics. Very clean with all the original wrappings and eyelets still intact. All sections are equal in length. The tube is a bit shopworn but retains about 75% of the label with great graphics. Vintage 1940's or 50's Hand-made Bamboo Fly Rod with two tips 4 Pieces.
I am selling a used vintage bamboo fly rod( I believe it is from the late 40's or 50's) Includes two different tips. It is a three piece rod( with two different tips) and measures 12.8 feet or 12.6 feet depending on the final end chosen. I picked this up at an estate sale along with other vintage items.See Photos) Over all condition is very fine a little minor chipping of the cork area but all eyelets are still original and fastened tight please ask any question and I will answer to the best of my ability. Antique / Vintage Split Bamboo Fly Rod 9-1/2 foot
VINTAGE 9 FOOT 6 SPLIT BAMBOO FLY ROD This is a vintage split bamboo fly rod. There is no brand name that I can see. The rod is 9'6" from end to end and is a 3 piece rod with an extra tip. The eyes are tight and the cork is good. The rod looks to have been refinished. There is one eye that has been rewrapped and I assume a tip top replaced as the two don.T match.
