This rod has two tips, each with a different style end on it, Im guessing its a wet fly ... moreand dry fly tip but not sure. All four pieces are straight and true with no bends. One tip is about 5/16 of an inch shorter than the other but one of the metal tips is 3/16 of an inch longer than the other, being a different style, so that accounts for part of the difference in length-the tips appear to have never been broken or repaired. Butt section is 38 8/16 long, center section is 38 8/16 long, one tip is 38 7/16 and the other is 38 2/16 long. The rod appears to be complete and is marked Dirigo FE Thomas Bangor Me on the reel seat. Reel seat appears to be nickle plated and has what I think is called a rolled soldered slide bar. I did some research but correct me if Im mistaken about names/details of this item. I was told and believe that the finish on the rod is the original varnish. The butt section and center section need to have the line guides rewrapped as they have been attached in a very sloppy manner, as shown in the pics. The two tips look to be in great shape however with all the guides securely attached. The rod measures 114 1/2 inches( 9 1/2 feet) when assembled but I did not really"jam" the sections together for fear of not being able to get them apart again. I believe the cork grip is referred to as sheet wrapped. Two tips come in a round bamboo storage case with a screw on cap. Bamboo case fits into the original canvas rod sack along with the butt and center sections. Canvas case is marked with the name LAWRENCE, I assume the original owner but dont know. This is a great rod but does need some repair work. I am not an expert on fly rods and got most of the info off the internet so please ask questions if you have any. This example is in good shape and it is ready to fish with or collect. It measures 7 1/2' long and it weighs 4.3oz (it feels like it would handle a 5-6wt fly line just fine). I am not entirely sure if this rod is original or if it has been redone at some point in time (I had a hard time finding any other examples). With that being said, the varnish has minor wear, but for the most part this rod looks great. The cork handle has some soiling, but it still feels nice in your hand. The ferrules fit tight on this rod. The sock is a replacement and it only has two slots.

VINTAGE MONTAGUE MT TOM SPLIT BAMBOO FLY FISHING ROD This auction is for vintage refinished three piece 9’ Montague MT Tom split bamboo fly rod. There is a partial Montague label and original Montague sticker on the cork handle. All of the section measure 37” I would estimate it would nicely throw a five weight fly line. The six inch cork handle and screw down lock reel seat are in very good functional condition. There are two snake eye guides on the mid section. Three on the tip and a stripper guide on the bottom section. One guide on the mid and tip sections have been re-wrapped. The female ferrule on the bottom section has a hair line crack(see picture) however it and all of the sections fit nicely when assembled and have the distinct pop sound when removed. There is a set in the tip section which will not affect casting of the rod. I ... moremeticulously stripped the old varnish. Refinished with four coats of spar varnish and completed it with high quality wood rubbing compounds. The ferrules have been buffed and polished. The classic brownstone colored bamboo cane and varnish finish are beautiful. This is a very nice bamboo fly and/or casting set in very good to excellent condition. There are 5 sections with each section measuring approximately 32 inches. The cork handle is in very good condition. The silver connectors are bright and shiny. The wrappings are all tight and in very good to excellent condition. The label is excellent and it reads: High Quality Everest Trade Mark Japan. There is a line winder and bobber unused and still in the original wrapper. There are also 2 vintage flies. Vintage L L Bean Bamboo Fly Rod Bean's Double L Fly Rod 9' Rod has seen lots of use. Top guide is missing not broken i think the glue dried out and it fell of. Finish is a little rough in spots. Center section bottom has red winding not black. The top tip is bent a little Bottom handle shows wear. I do not know if this rod can be fixed or not i will let you be the judge. Rod bag is original and really dirty but you just cannot wash them because they shrink so bad, I'll leave it up to the new owner to have it dry cleaned or not. The rod tube is after market and way better than the cardboard tube they came in. I have not fished this rod but have lawn cast it, it casts a DT5 well and lays it nicely. Up for bids is a beautiful vintage 8'6" 3/1 bamboo fly rod. Rod maker unknown- no ID present upon examination. It is super straight with a superb finish and appears that all parts are original. Most likely redone- but do not know rod's history. It has the old rattan grip and unusual tip which may indicate from the 1930s? My knowledge on these is limited so if you have any input it would be appreciated. I try and describe to the best of my ability. Pictures are hopefully the most informative for you- and my best ally for describing the rod- please view carefully. All the guides and wraps are present. Tight and without flaws. Ferrules fit well and have the distinct pop when separated. Hook keeper also present. Offered for auction is my Heddon#17 8.5' 3/2 1-3/4F. A"neo-classic" era rod. With spiral-inked"Heddon" and simply" 17- 8 1/2' 1 3/4F- HDH or E" on the shaft. this rod pre-dates the"Black Beauty" title later given to#17 grade Heddon rods) A simply wonderful taper. That fishes with a#4 or#5 line best. Vintage bamboo rods of this length and light weight are somewhat rare to find. It's in very good. Used condition; and is full-length with no evidence of past breakage or repair. Varnish is nice and hard. With a minor few chips here and there; but it definitely does not suffer from the varnish"melt down" that many vintages Heddons have succumbed to. Ferrules fit like typical vintage Heddons: not super tight, but certainly adequate. They seat firmly, and hold well while connected- no ... moretwisting and no audible clicking with this rod. The case is the original(heavy brass butt cap and screw top)comes with the cloth bag.There are five sections of rod.2 Tips,2 mid sections,one butt. not sure why it has 2 mid sections,slightly different but same hardware)One mid section is 3 inches shorter(pretty sure not broke,I think that it is to accommodate more than one line weight.The tips are full length and appear to be nice and straight, the whole rod is straight with no sets or warps.The rod appears to be in very good condition as shown and ready to fish if you like.There is an agate guide on the butt section. The finish looks nice with nice original ... morehardware.one mid section bottom ferrule has light damage,looks easy to fix without replacing. All ferrules match. Unknown Maker Split Bamboo Fly Rod. Two Tips are included. This is a very old rod. Note the guides. They consist of loops made of carbaloy. They look like old hook keepers. It appears that this rod was in the process of being reconditioned. not by me) i. e. the bottom part has interim wraps and the other sections do not. And there is no varnish on the rod. I believe the handle probably had a layer of cord or cork over it at one time. The only marking on the rod is"patent applied for" on the reel seat. The contraption it sits in when stored is made out of wood and has remnants of cloth on it in the grooves that the rod pieces fit in. I have had it for years but I do not like to recondition fly rods any more! Please rely on photos for condition!

Edwards Bristol 8.5' Split Bamboo 3/2 Fly Rod FB7 A very beautiful Edwards-Bristol 8.5' Split Bamboo 3/2 Fly Rod marked"FB7" The first eye is Garnet/Agate. The rest are steel. This rod has tight red wraps, aluminum ferrules and a shiny gloss finish. The ferrules fit together tightly and come apart with a soft"pop" The lock nut for the reel is conical and fits over the front of the reel mount. All sections have a slight set, but nothing that is excessive or abnormal. The sock and tube are not marked and may not be original. We welcome all info or questions and will answer them to the best of our ability. Be aware our camera has a small lens and can tend to make long. Bamboo 9 foot fly fishing rod with case and extra tip section - very old.
Spilt bamboo 9 foot fly fishing rod.Very old, in excellent condition with extra tip section, cloth case and leather storage tube. This rod looks great and all components appear to be intact. I am not a fly rod expert, so I don't know the builder or how old it is. Others have said it is reminiscent of a Norman Aguters, but probably much older. The rod, cloth case and leather tube were passed down to me from the estate of my grandfather, a fishing guide on the Gunnison River in the 1930's.

RARE Vintage 1938 Wright McGill Water Seal Super Rod Fly Bamboo Fishing 4 Pce 9’
Up for auction today is very nice vintage bamboo fishing rod. The rod is a 4-piece rod with one of the pieces being an extra tip. The 3 pieces when put together measure 108” long. The label on the rod is marked WRIGHT& MCGILL HAND MADE Water Seal SUPER ROD SEALED AGAINST WATER. On the label. It also has the seal balancing a ball logo and next to that in small lettering“1950 W& M CO. The label is in mint condition. On the reel seat the lettering reads; MADE BY WRIGHT& MCGILL ROD CO. DENVER COLO USA 12 1938 PAT NO 2114107(patent issued for the reel seat on April 12 1938– the April is unreadable) It come with a metal case with a cloth sleeve. The label on the metal case reads; WRIGHT& MCGILL HAND MADE WATER SEAL SUPER ROD 1950 W& M CO SEALED AGAIST WATER F.A.H.90 9’ FLY ROD. The label is missing a piece where the MG in Mcgill ... moreis…see photos. The metal case has some scratches on it. The case has brass ends and is all non-magnetic. The main portion is pained a beautiful burgundy color and is probably aluminum. The cap threads onto the case. The rod itself is in excellent condition. When I was shooting the photos I noticed an area section on one of the tip sections that looks likes a repair(see last photo) it is about 2 ½” long. Other than I see no breaks. Missing parts or repairs. Please see photos to determine condition and ask questions. I could not find any information that would date this model. The 1950 on the label would indicate a 1950 or later date? 1/21/13 A friend sent me these off of a forum today The only major addition by the Wright& McGill Rod Co. came in 1952 with introduction of the impregnated series of Water Seal rods. This is for a Montaque Bamboo fly rod in very good to excellent condition. It is three piece. Two tips. Al;l sections are full length and straight. The decal is about 70% there. You can see it is labeled Rapidan. You can see the first letter and the last letter. The original tube has the label on it stating Rapidan. Also has original bag in very good condition. Tube is miss cap. The reel seat is very good. It was blackened but some is worn off. The cork is very good. no chunks out. Ther wraps are dark brown and very good. The ferrules are very good with some of the blackening worn off. The guides are very good anf the finish is very good. It has a hook keeper. I think most would call this excellent condition. I believe this originally had two tips because the bag is for a two tip rod. The Southbend label is 100% as is the the rest of the labeling on the rod. It says. Southbend. No. 290- 71/2 foot. Line.E or HDH. The reel seat is good. The cork is very good. The cork has a protective finish on it. No chunks out. The wraps are orange and black verigated and in very good condition. The ferrules and guides are very good. The finish is very good. This is a very nice rod in very good shape. It comes with its original bag in very good condition. The bag has the full label on it. Red eye glass stripper guide. 8 new"old stock" black wire snake guides and rust proof tip top. Ferrules are nickel silver over brass and with some scratches but no cracks. Bamboo is without flaw and straight. Guide wraps are dark red with black accent trims and appear to be silk. Rod has 2 tip sections. RARE! William Mills & Son Deer Fat Tin ~ Bamboo Fly Rod/Silk Line Lube/Floatant
I've owned this super rare William Mills& Son Deer Fat Tin for over a decade and I've never ever seen another tin with deer fat. I found references in my vintage tackle catalogs from William Mills and Son as well as Hardy's but I've only seen one other tin by Hardy online and that is it! I've seen rare Meek Reel oil bottles go for over $500 and I've seen about a dozen of those so this item has got to be far more scarce than those bottles. Since this item was considered a consumable. I suppose most fishermen tossed these tins after a few years so there's very few in existence. Underside of the tin below. Deer fat was used since the 1890's as silk fly line floatant and as bamboo rod ferrule lubricant. I imagine they'd also use it on their dry flies in a pinch as well. My 1934 Hardy's Catalogue charged ... more10d for a tin and"For lubricating rod joints. and there was no mention of Cerolene. Up for auction is an antique handmade 1946 Wright& McGill Stream& Lake 3 piece Fly Fishing Rod. It has an extra tip with it. Needs some professional work. The Stream& Lake was introduced in 1947. 2) Goodwin Granger(1889– 1931) designed the Champion Grade in 1933 in his company before Wright& McGill purchased the company and changed the name of the“Champion” grade to“Stream& Lake” 3) Wright& McGill leased the Goodwin Granger Company in 1946 and the sale to W&M wasn’t complete until 1958. They purchased the Goodwin Granger name because they could not get a market for their bamboo rods like Granger had. 4) In 1947 the W&M Company issued their first catalog and changed the“Champion” Grade ... morename to“Stream& Lake” 5) Eagle Claw” is a subsidiary of Wright& McGill primarily dealing in hooks and then fiberglass rods. 8 1/2" Goodwin Granger bamboo fly rod with sock and tube in great condition
Very nice vintage 8 1/2" bamboo fly rod model"Champion" made by Goodwin Granger Co. in Denver. CO. 4 pieces the butt, middle, and tip with 1 extra tip. All 4 pieces are the exact same size 34 1/2" in length. All 4 pieces came inside the original canvas sock that is like new and the original cardboard tube with the metal cap. All 4 pieces are straight and I do not see any wear on them. The eyes are firmly attached and I do not see any loose thread. The finish looks great and I do not see any cracks in the finish. The canvas sock is like new with no loose thread and the four different slots are still separated with the original stitching. The cardboard tube is in great condition with no dents and has the original metal cap. The tube is wrapped with black paper and is in great condition. still sturdy enough to keep the fly ... morerod protected. A few small pieces of black paper are missing. Goodwin Granger Co made quality fly rods from 1919 thru 1941. Was closed during the war and in 1946 was sold to another company named Wright& McGill. This fly rod was produced between 1934 and 1941. The fly rod has the following information on it. Granger Champion stamped in ink on the end piece near the cork. Metal area end piece states Made by Goodwin Granger Co Denver. Sticker that was glued on the cardboard tube states: Granger Champion Number GC3_ 2(paper sticker torn and 2 numbers missing) Length 8 1/2 Feet Weight 4 1/2 oz My mother and her father were fixing up a old house in 1975. This fly rod was found inside the wall behind some paneling inside the sock and tube. We have had this rod in storage since 1975 and we never used it. The condition is so great I am not sure if it was ever used. This fly rod will be insured for shipping up to the amount of sale and delivery confirmation for shipping. These cost are included in the shipping supplies. Approximate cost for insurance $7.05 to $9.50 and delivery confirmation is $2.55. South Bend Quality Tackle Bait Co. 9' Split Bamboo 3/2 Fly Rod w/Bamboo Tip Case Vintage South Bend 9' Split Bamboo 3/2 Fly Rod with Canvas Bag and Bamboo Tip Case. No storage tube. The only markings on this rod are on the reel seat where it is stamped"South Bend Quality Tackle Bait Company" The reel lock nut is a friction fit with no threads. The first eye on the rod is Garnet/Agate. The rest are wire. All sections of this rod have a slight set, but nothing that is really that bad or unusual for rod this old. All sections of the rod fit together easily, but snugly and come apart with a soft"pop" All windings& eyes are tight& clean and the finish on the rod is still quite glossy. The canvas bag is torn at the flap and the original tag has been cut off of it. The bamboo tip case has a brass neck and threaded ... morecap. Both tips fit in the case. We looked at several hundred pictures of old South Bend rods and this rod looks the most like a mid-1930's model 25. But the catalogue does not show a bamboo tip case for that model. It's possible the tip case is not original to the rod or perhaps this is not a model 25. If anyone has any info or questions we will be happy to answer them to the best of our ability. This is one of the earlier"combination" rods I've seen from Montague, built from 1907 to around 1915 or so. The handle is stamped"PATENTED JAN.22.1907" the patent assigned to Montague City Rod Co. for the detachable and ferruled handle. Inside the handle are two different size female ferrules. Depending on which combination of rod sections are used, the rod can be configured to either a 2-piece, 7 ft. fly rod or a 3-piece 9-1/2 ft. rod. The last two photos of this listing show the two possible configurations. This was actually a quality-made model, using rather high-grade bamboo and components. Built with very nice Calcutta ... morecane and comes equipped with extra tip section, steel Perfection stripper, 12) English twist" snake guides, steel tip tops, nickel silver"waisted" ferrules, sliding band Montague/Chubb reel seat, very early and quite delicate rattan-wrapped grip and very closely wound in red silk tipped in black. Ther are 166 individual wraps. Rod is in solid Fine condition for these, showing moderate overall wear. Rod has been completely rewrapped and done entirely to original. Each tip appears to be a different action, suggesting one is a Montague replacement. Bamboo is nice, with no splits or cracks. All sections are the correct length, with the butt and each tip showing some moderate set. As one would expect, all wraps and varnish are pristine. All guides, ferrules and tip tops remain in very nice condition. Reel seat works perfectly. Patent date is boldly stamped. The rattan-wrapped grip is in superb condition. Put up in the original felt-covered wood form holder, which remains in very fine condition. A very good example of these early combination rods from Montague City. Vintage Bamboo Fly Rod 7 1/2 ft 2 pc 2 tips unmarked maker
This is a very nice high condition bamboo rod I've not fished it but I believe it will take a 4 wt line. The rod weighs 4 1/2 oz. Very nice down locking reel seat and wood insert. The ferrules and wrappings are in good condition. It comes with a green rod bag in an aluminum case. The case cap is labeled A.A.W.Co. with Peerless shield. On Jan-21-13 at 19:48:30 PST. Seller added the following information: the actual rod weight is 3 7/8 oz. with the butt and 1 tip(either one) not the 4 1/2 oz as orig. stated also there is a minor color variation between the tips. I.e. one is slightly darker than the other.

Comes with canvas case, and what I believe to be the original tube, a handle price, a middle section, and two top sections(one missing ferrule and a replaced tip) All ferrules are in good condition, no rust, dings, dents, or blockages, EXCEPT, one tip is missing the bottom ferrule. Horrocks Ibbotson Featherlight 7 1/2 ft. 3 piece bamboo fly rod
This is a Featherlight 7 1/2' three piece bamboo fly rod with two tips. Possibly made by Horrocks Ibbotson early in the last century, the only identifier is a feather decal on the shaft with the word Feaherlight on it. The butt and both tips are 31 1/4" long, the mid section is 1 1/4" short, the finish is good with a few chips All of the wraps seem to be original with the exception of the first and third guides on the mid section which appear to be re-wraps, it has an agate stripper guide and one tip with an agate tip top, the other has a metal tip top. The tip with the agate tip top has and old repair over-wrap 3" up from the ferrule(see pic#7) The wraps are maroon with decorative intermediates the ferrules are of better quality and fit pretty well. It has a slide band reel seat, both it, and the grip are in good condition. ... moreIt comes with felt covered case, not sure if it is original but it is period correct and a bag which appears to come from another rod. Leonard/Leonard Mills. 3pc and 9ft long when assembled with the longer tip and right at 8 1/2 with the shorter tip. section lengths are Butt: 38.25" Center: 38.25 Tip 1: 33" Tip 2: 29.75" The wraps are in good shape. The cork is beautiful, the real seat is in good shape and could use some polish, the ferrules are in good condition and will be cleaned to ensure proper fit and"pop" when separated. This is a unique format for a Orvis rod and it i s in very good original condition and has an aluminum reel seat with down-locking collar and ring. Black ferrules, and steel guides. All pieces are straight and full, with each bearing serial#38486. The bag and tube are original with the tube's label being 50% intact. The tube has a few dings in it. It was at one point upgraded by addition of guides. As Montague only had visibly put 3 on the tips(they did that even for high grade models, like the Fishkill. It is a trade rod, marketed by Kingfisher. This is a totally usable quality. blue collar" rod, well suited to punching out a line on small to medium size streams. The action is definitely fast and powerful. This rod is of course ready for the stream and is reminiscent of the popular angling history and lore of the past. Up for sale is a Vintage Japanese Champion Bamboo Combination Fly& Spinning Rod With Wooden Case. I have listed this fly rod as used but it looks to have never been used. The fly rod is 7' 10" and it feels like a 5wt. There are two tips for the fly rod. The wraps and guides are all good but the bamboo will need to be refinished. When the spinning rod is placed together it measures 5' 4" and is a medium action. The wooden case is in good condition with one corner needing to be reglued. This set does have 15 flies with it and several all wooden floats and fishing lines also. I don't know if this is a complete set or not. This is a very nice vintage 1940's-50's set that will make a great addition to a collection. They say pictures are worth a thousand words. For your consideration is a H.L. Leonard. Duracane 7' 4wt. 2/1. 1841 This is the early Duracane that is known as a"Green Wrap. Original tube and sock with stiffener. Label is missing on tube. Duracanes were made with one tip(Some were special ordered to have two tips) Excellent Condition. Medium flamed cane. Black snake guides, nickel silver reel seat hardware with sliding band, butternut wood spacer and green wraps. Slight impression in the cork at the top of the handle where a thumb might rest. See photo. Otherwise, in Excellent condition. This rod is an absolute cannon. Light in your hand but can throw 60' as easily as 20' and every bit as accurate. IMHO. The proper 3wt and 4wt both load this rod. I have two of these and this one is slightly lighter in the hand- my other is a true 4wt. I was told that Ted Simroe developed ... morethe taper for the Duracane and the 7' was based on the 38 taper, but just a little quicker because of the impregnation. Absolutely a delight to fish. The only blemishes I see are a light tear on original factory details paper wrap on cork& part of Montague deecaling on beginning of rod caused by age. Scarce& hard to find in this condition. OHIO VARNISHED& BANDED. HEXAGONAL Offered here is an antique bamboo rod that is part of a hunting and fishing collection of my wife's grandfather and great grandfather. I am not an expert on fishing rods so bear with my terminology. I have read other ebay offerings. But bear in mind I cannot answer your questions about how the rods handle, as I do not fish. These rods, about 6 in all, came in a handstitched canvas case that had been rolled up into a carrying tube. They were found in the loft of her father's boathouse ... morewhere they have been since 1962. No reels, tackle, or bait boxes were found with these items. This is the first one we're selling. The snowshoes are in a different listing in my Auctiva store. Her grandfather died in 1942 and these items were stored in her dad's barn until her mother's death in 2011. Her dad didn't touch them from 1942 except to move them from place to place as they moved. We'll have more of these. Some with 3 or 4 sections and mfg names, to list. Also, old hunting bows. Another world of expertise we're not up on yet. Dimensions: Length 57" Cork end to female ferrule 22" tiptop end to male ferrule 35.75" Contains 3 guides. All appear to be in great shape. Rod does not seem to have any splits. Cracks, etc. Her grandfather. Arthur Pierstorff, used these in the 1920s, but told her father that some were originally his father's, Charles Pierstorff. They are all buried in Buck Cemetary, Celina, Ohio in Mercer County. Arthur was quite ill from 1935 until his death in 1942, so they have been dormant for a long time. Hope they go to a good home! Here is a beautiful fly rod by one of the great masters. E.F. Payne. This rod is in wonderful condition. Cane is excellent with no cracks, splits or delamination.The cork on this rod is beautiful. All wraps are intact and in great condition. Ferrules are in great condition, fit well and pop when pulled apart. The reel seat, fighting butt and cover are in great condition. The sock, tip tube and tip tube sock are in great shape. The rod sock even has the E.F. Payne tag on it. The long and short tip sections also have Agate tip tops on them. This rod is an unknown model.possibly a 221 from 1951. It is 10'6" long assembled with the long tip and fighting butt. 10' without fighting butt and the long tip. 9'7" without fighting butt and the short tip. Wright McGill Bamboo Fly Rod 8040 (Marshall Fields)
Marshall Fields One Striper made by Wright McGill. This rod is a Granger Victory 8040 made for Marshall Fields in Chicago. As you can see. One tip is missing. The bag and tube are not original. The mid ferrule moves 1/16 of an inch when the rod is disassembled. It appears someone tried to fill a couple dings in the cork. I tried to show them in the photo. The rod is better then the description sounds but I'd rather understate it and avoid a disappointed buyer. Please ask if you have questions.
