For sale is a vintage"Essex Rod" bamboo fly rod. The rod has markings saying that it is an"Essex Rod" Produced by cross rod& tackle in Lynn Mass. The rod consists of 5 pieces, a base, middle section and three tips. HCH(6) This appears to be a"6" but is hard to read. A"C" rod is normally a 7 wt. Made for"E.G. Pollack" Rare Wes Jordan(Battenkill-grade cane) 8' 6 wt. The lettering on the rod is mostly intact. The grip does show wear as pictured but in character with vintage. The grip also has two factory depressions for the thumb and hand. The rod is two-tipped with one of the tips a later Orvis factory tip. Which is properly serial numbered to the rod, and a little lighter in color(photo) As with Orvis line designations. Vintage Heddon"Thorobred" 14 Bamboo Fly Rod 8 ft 4 oz. 3/2 tips This browntone Tonkin cane swelled butt rod is in very good original condition with no repairs. This is a 3 piece 2 tip rod with a length of 8 feet and an assembled weight of 4 oz. All of the sections are full length and straight. The ferrules are blued and fit together smoothly. It has a screw-locking pyralin reel seat. A solid cork Heddon half-Wells grip and the guides are nicely wound in red silk. All wraps and guides appear to be original. Montague Clipper Vintage Split Bamboo Fly Fishing Rod W/Case
This is a 12 foot(three four foot long sections) Montague Clipper split Bamboo rod. This rod is in excellent condition and maybe unused. It belonged to my wife's grandfather and has been in the storage case for at least the last 50 years. Remains of the original paper price label can still be seen on the grip. The finish is in pristine condition. There are no breaks or cracks in the bamboo and the tying around the eyes is in perfect condition, the ferrules engage smoothly and the reel seat threads up and down easily. It comes with an aluminum tube storage case.

Selling a very nice vintage bamboo fly rod. Signed Bristol/ F18.from a bit of scouting around on the web, I believe this to be a rod made by Billy Edwards- another F18 that I found, had info suggesting it was for a 5 WT line. This model has the classic `swelled butt' that guys are known to have a fondness for. I believe the handle insert is cherry wood, but not positive. This is a 4 pc rod(2 tips) with each length about 32 1/4" each. Comes with what I believe to be the original sack and aluminum tube. I have not attemped to clean the rod, and the pics show the rod's condition, which I believe is original and commensurate with age. From what I have read, a desireable rod worth much more than my starting bid, offered with NO RESERVE. I consider my pics part of my description. The rod was clearly refinished many, many years ago. Oddly, they added a hook-keeper and covered the letter'G' in the wording Granger on the rod. the G is still there(visible through the wrap- see the photo) and should look fine when the hook-keeper over-wrap is removed and the rod refinished. Slight click to the mid male ferrule. Ferrules need cleaning to seat well. No cracks or dings to ferrules. Some chips to the aging varnish. Classic Horrocks Ibbotson Mohawk 9' Bamboo Fly Fishing Rod 3/2 With Bag & Tube
This rod does not have a Horrocks Ibbotson label on it. But the model name"Mohawk" is written on the shaft in white or yellow script away from the grip. Mohawk was an upscale model from H-I in the 1920s-30s. This rod is in very good plus vintage condition. All sections are the correct length and essentially straight. The ferrules are properly tight, no cracks. The downlocking slide band reel seat and the ferrules are chrome plated brass. The stripper guide has an agate insert, as does one of the tip tops. All of the intermediate wraps are intact and the varnish is in good condition. This rod comes with a non-original bag and fiber tube. A very nice fishable collectible.

For sale is an Edwards Quadrate model#35 bamboo fly rod. The rod has an older refinish. The finish is good. But not excellent. It could use a rub out and you can see a few tear drops. The photos should help. The rod casts a 6/7 weight line according to my taste. Awesome reserve power, It is a 4 strip rod 8 1/2 feet in length. Butt ferrule is 16/64 the mid is 11/64. The weight with one tip is 4 3/4 ounces. The butt and mid are full length the tips are each short. One is short 1/4 inch the other about 3/4 inch. There is a little ridging on the front half of the cork grip. The rod is in the original bag and is protected by a titanium Scientific Angler rod tube. If you need additional photos or information. certainly one of my most interesting finds.this old fly rod and reel comes in a very unusual 4 slot wooden case 40" long with metal ends.the rod has 3 pieces each 38" long.the fly reel still has string on it and appears to work properly.i'd guess at one time there was an extra tip included hence the fourth slot in the holder.i guess this was lost to some lunker rainbow a long time ago

It can be used as a seven piece 6’ 5” or as a six piece 5’ 2” rod. There are no manufacturer identifications. The reel seat. Winding check and ferrules are all characteristic of the early pocket rods made by Montague. I would estimate it could be aligned with a one-two weight fly line. The 4 1/2” cork handle is in great condition. The 4 ½” sliding ring reel seat would indicated the rod was produced pre 1930’s. It is also in excellent functional shape. The rod fits together perfectly when assembled and has the distinct pop sound when removed. There is a vibration due to the pinned ferrules. It will not however affect the casting or use of the rod. Bamboo Fly Rod Vintage Antique Possible Weber of Stevens Point?
I am pleased to offer this antique fly rod. It is of unknown origin and I don't really know much about it other than it was my step fathers(a huge trout fisherman) and he never bought junk when it came to his favorite past time. He did shop a lot at Orvis if that helps? This can be proven by the most recent rod I sold from his collection. A very nice antique rod made in Aberdeen Scotland. Unfortunately this one is not of that caliber and as I said without markings on it I do not know much about it. It has been kept in an aluminum tube for over 40 years now and has not been used. It does however have some rusted eyelets and a loose receiver cap on the end of the main handle part. From what I understand these things can be easily fixed and if you are such a guy into this sport this is the rod for you. Total length is 7'11" Handle ... moreis 2'9" with cork handle(no defects) and screw for reel on end in red aluminum. Loose end on receiving end of rod. Middle piece is 2'7.5" There are two tips one is 2'7.5" and the shorter one is 1' 5.75" All pieces show wear on the eyelets as shown in the pictures. I have tried to take pictures showing what I have here and described to the best of my ability. I am listing at what I think it may be worth and hoping the market makes it right or perhaps someone out there gets a fantastic deal on an antique? This rod does come with the cloth storage bag and aluminum storage tube. Up for auction here is a vintage 3-piece 8 1/2-foot split bamboo fly rod marked KINGFISHER on the reel seat. A tag that came with the rod claimed it was made by Heddon but I cannot confirm this. All eyes are present and all windings match and appear to be original. Each section is about 35 inches long. There is only slight warping in the rod– it would display well but is in very good condition and suitable for use. The rod will ship by Priority Mail as a 2-pound package. Art Weiler 7'6" BAMBOO FLY ROD-2/2--4-5-WEIGHT
Working from his Pocono Mountain shop. Art Weiler has been hand planing rods for 30-plus years, and is well known for his Garrison reproductions. This auction includes a used 2-piece bamboo fly rod with two tips, with what I believe to be Art's original early packaging(a partitioned rod bag inside a length of PVC which is inside a fabric tube cover, original hang tag and ferrule plug) This is an early Garrison 206 Light(1980) with red wraps. The action of the rod is what I would describe as medium-fast with delicate tips. Art has marked the rod"DT 4-5" The rod is straight. Full length and the ferrule fit is as new, and the caramel colored cane is beautiful to behold. Art's node work is impressive. The nickel-silver hardware is believed to be shop-made. The varnish is smooth and dry and very nicely done. All of the sections measure 37” I would estimate the fly line weight at a five-six. The six inch cork handle and bottom spring loaded reel seat are very good functional condition. There are four snake eye guides on the mid section, five on the tip and a stripper guide on the bottom section. One guide on the mid section has been professionally rewrapped. The rod fits together perfectly when assembled and has the distinct pop sound when removed. There is a very slight natural set in the tip section which will not affect the casting or use of the rod. Vintage Bronson split bamboo fly rod. While Bronson reels are easy to find. Not so with Bronson bamboo fly rods. This is a nice one with an extra tip, all 4 pieces being 37 inches long for a 9 foot rod. The main section says: 390- 9' Comes with original cloth rod bag. From and estate. Please disregard the orvis battenkill and montague in the description. These were added by me to assist in search engines only. For buyers who appreciate vintage bamboo rods, and not to describe the fly rod in any way. The rod is a cortland, made in England, and very old. This is a vintage impregnated bamboo fly rod, made in England, by or or cortland, up for auction. The rod is a 2 piece. And includes 2 tips. One tip has a broken butt section, and could be repaired by a good rod builder. The butt section measures 43 1/2 inches and is intact and solid. It has some thread coming loose at the fly retainer. Bit, the seat and cork log good and solid. The eyelets are sound. The broken section and the solid tip section both measure 43 1/2 inches as well. And appear identical. The eyelids and tips are solid and intact, and they are in good shape. ... moreThe broken section is the ferrule that connects it to the butt section, and it shattered about 2 inches above the ferrule. I took pics, and it looks like it could be fused, or the ferrule could be replaced on the spare tip section and a shorter tip could be made. The rod appears to be a 5 weight. I can't read the cursive written on the rod, but it looks like a 2 piece, 5 weight, is what it is supposed to say. All in all. This is a nice vintage example of when cortland was a serious competitor in the bamboo fly rod market, and their 444 series rods were quite a fashionable fly rod to have. I have used this before. It casts like a dream. It handles the average brook trout with ease and pleasure. I am going to ship this in its original tube and sock. And wrap the case in plain packaging. I will insure it of course, and place bubble wrap at the tip section. If I can find a box for it, I will use a box. I have shipped quite a few rods this way, and they work well. vintage orvis impregnated bamboo fly rod battenkill and original case sock 2 tip
This is a vintage orvis battenkill fly rod up for auction. The rod comes with its original metal case. And the sock is included. The rod has 2 tips. The case has a description and specific on it. But its kind of hard to read. I'll do my best here: the case says battenkill, and at serial it says 59542, whispch is the same as one of the tips say. It says at weight 3 7/8 I believe. Length says 7 1/2 2 piece. And the last label is something to do with test I believe, and there is a code. The code looks like ct-12 and then do-6. I am not sure if this means its a 6 weight fly rod or not. I can't read the last label hardly at all. The bottom section measures 45 1/2 inches. The rod seat is cork. And there is a significant piece of cork missing, see pic. The reel retainer works fine. I see no serial number painted on it anywhere, and it looks ... moreto have never been repaired. One tip section measures 44 inches. This one has no serial number on it. And I believe this one is the original tip section with the rod. I also see a metal repair that was made, and I believe orvis did it. Please see pic. The piece is still solid and intact. But, its shorter than the bottom section and the other tip, so I believe this was factory repaired. The second tip is painted with serial number 59542. And is 46 inches long. This tip section is lighter in colt as far as the bamboo is concerned. It also has a removable tip section, which the other does not. It appears as if this section may have been added later, maybe by orvis when the original section was repaired? I am not sure of this, but it looks consistent. The other 2 rods that don't have a number on them tell me this battenkill could be pretty old. All in all. This is a nice rod that has solid intact eyelids and threads, and I don't see any cracks or breaks. I stated the repair, but otherwise, its a nice vintage bamboo rod, and should make a nice addition to an enthusiasts or collector of bamboo fly rods. I am going to ship this rod in its case. WRIGHT& MCGILL WATERSEAL IMPREGNATED 7’ BAMBOO FLY ROD This is a W&M impregnated rod similar to Phillipson’s Heywood Zephyr. It is 7’ long. With an up-locking maroon anodized reel seat, permanent extension butt, elliptical“hammer handle” grip. The rod weighs 5 ounces and has a 15/64” ferrule. Since it has the maroon wraps. Tube, and bag, and the reel seat is maroon, it seems to be the FA model as described by Spurr and Sinclair(p.124) CONDITION is fine. The decal is excellent. Finish excellent, wraps fine with possible varnish touch-up, some loss of plating on the up-locking reel seat ring. The tip has a slight fishing set and is about ¼” shorter than the butt(see photo 6) The bag has holes in the bottom. Temporarily repaired with masking tape.
