Wright McGill Granger Special GS8642 8 1/2 ft 4.5 oz 3 pc 2 tips Bamboo Fly Rod
NO RESERVE AUCTION You are bidding on a fantastic PRESERVED Wright McGill Granger Special bamboo fly rod GS8642. 8 1/2ft, 4.5 oz. 3/2. 3 pieces with 2 tips. This rod has been what I call preserved, with the nice aged look of the original silks under the original varnish. All varnish was carefully scraped off the bamboo, however, retained over all the original silks to give the look of an original aged rod, while getting 2 fresh dips in varnish to ensure it is water tight. One snake guide at the bottom of the mid was replaced and rewrapped with new silk, however, tastefully matched against the original silk look. There is one scratch on the reel seat and one tip is down 2.5 inches(pictured) Includes original cloth sack in perfect condition, and the original aluminum tube in very very good condition, with a decent label, you don't see many ... moretubes in this good of shape. The rod casts a 6 weight DT modern fly line beautifully. All sections are equal length(except the one tip) straight as an arrow, reel seat functions well, ferrules are great and pop with no clicking during casting. If you want a Granger to fish this is it. All the wraps look great and are an original aged wrap. The cork looks good, though suffers from some soiling and use over time, it could be cleaned if that is the look you want, varnish looks great. Completely restored and preserved. This is one heck of a great looking rod and it is ready to fish as is. This rod. For those that don't know is positioned as an upper mid-grade rod and used bamboo that was not quite good enough for the Registered and Deluxe but better than the Special, and way better than the Victory or Champion. The 9" length in my opinion is great for the fisherman out there, rather than the collectors. Let the collectors keep paying way to much for the shorter rods that don't have the length to high stick or mend the way a fisherman needs to catch fish. The shorter rods, may cast a little better, but I would be willing to bet these longer rods catch more fish, since

NO RESERVE AUCTION Original Wright McGill Granger Favorite GF9050. 9 ft. 5 ounce 3 piece with 2 tips. All Original and very tight. This rod has been professionally repaired. There is a wrap on one tip to cover a hook dig see pictures, it's hard to notice. This tip is fully functional and fine to fish with. The mid male ferrule needed to be reglued and therefore rewrapped. This has been very tastefully done and is hardly recognizable from the original look of the aged wraps. The tube appears to be a wright mcgill tube but is missing the cap(Looks like an original Wright McGill Water Seal tube possibly) The reel seat could use a cleaning(or not if you like the patina) but other than that everything is in great shape ready to fish. Please look at the pictures, other than a couple of scuffs to the varnish it is in really good shape The scuffs ... morewere lightly touched with varnish to seal out water. This was obviously a cared for rod and fished. Waiting for you to take it back out with you. Don't you want to be the guy on your fishing trip this year showing off what what an OLD Granger can do? Custom Bamboo fly rod 6'6" 3/4 wt line dark flamed cane with green wraps. 2 tips
This small stream beauty was created in 1991 by Donald R. Avery of PA. I bought it at the Somerset Fly Show in 1995. It was sold to me as used but in like-new condition. I seldom fished the rod and it has sat in its metal tube and cloth bag in storage for many years. No blemishes or cracks in varnish or cork. Guides seem smooth, nice and straight with both tips being the same length. rod has no"set" Only issue I can see is that the ferrules are"tight" but I haven't used the rod or lubed the ferrules for many years, so I am thinking it may just need some ferrule lube. Really sweet small stream rod, dark flamed cane with brite green wraps and hook holder.

It's my pleasure to offer at auction a Very Nice 1939-1948 HEDDON NO.20"BILL STANLEY'S FAVORITE" 9 FT. 3/2 SPLIT BAMBOO FLY ROD WITH THE ORIGINAL LABELED BAG& CORRECT WARTIME FIBER TUBE. Introduced as James Heddon's Sons' second fly rod model in 1926, the popular No.20 would sell through 1955 as one of their higher-grade rods. Because this example carries the Neo Classic Era rodshaft markings, we know it was built between 1939 and 1948. The original wartime tube likely puts it just before or just after WWII. I've added a photo of the original listing from Heddon's 1941 catalog. Heddon's Cleo Hanley has handwritten"Heddon" diagonally along three flats and"20- 9' 2-1/2F- HCH or D" on one flat, just above the hook keeper. The"HCH or D" is the old line weight designation ... moreequivalent to today's modern 6 or 7 wt. lines. The reel seat's locking ring is stamped"PAT. NO.1624052" the 1927 Patent number assigned to Heddon for the screw-locking reel seat. Built on a No.2-1/2 ferrule(what Heddon referred to as"Bass-Trout" action) from high-grade browntone Tonkin cane and comes equipped with extra tip section, gun-metal hardware, Tungsten guides& tip tops, hand-welted nickel silver serrated ferrules, flip-ring hook keeper, wound-over winding check, black plastic grip check& butt cap, screw-locking"Hold-Tite" reel seat with swirled tenite spacer, solid cork Heddon Half-Wells grip and wound in maroon silk tipped in gold. This is a beautiful flamed bamboo fly rod. I purchased the rod just as shown and originally had planned to restore it for an excellent wall hanging piece but no longer have the time. My loss is your gain. With some TLC this could be an amazing rod again. The rod has no markings or information about the maker or taper. There does not appear to be any finish on the rod and the guides are currently separate. The blank is in very good shape. I see only a few spots were there are minor imperfections(likely from where someone stripped the finish with a blade) The cork grip is in amazing condition and does not show any major damage or voids. The ferrules may be brand new as they are very bright and shiny. Please see the photos for condition. This would be an excellent project rod to practice refinishing. Light Brown Bamboo with burnt wire decorative cross hashes(marks) in the finish. With green wrap, looks like Nickel/ Silver eyes. All of the eyes(6 including the tip) are still attached. The cork is in good condition for it's age and the reel mounts are two gold colored metal band. It is a 3 piece rod. The cork handle in in good condition with a few minor deck rashes. Vintage Wright & McGill 8’ 1/2" Three Piece Split Bamboo Fly Rod W/ Metal Tube
This listing is for a Wright& McGill Fly Fishing Rod marked 12 1938- 2.114,107- Denver Co. I believe the first set of numbers is part of the patent date- April 12 1938- and the second second is the patent number itself. None of the pieces appear to be marked with a model or something more specific. Along with the base and three"attachments" there is a bag and metal tube. I don't know if these are original. But they have been with the item for as long as anyone remembers. Depending on which pieces are used in assembly the poll measures roughly 8' or 8' 1/2" in length. There are some scratches and other signs of age on the items as unfortunately these came from a local estate sale and were not as well cared for over the years as they could have been. Notably some of the eyes were lost and the discoloration/ wear ... moreis particular noticeable along were the reel would mount. I will try to answer any and all questions as best I can. But keep in mind that I'm not someone who fishes to begin with and add to that I'm really unfamiliar with Fly Rods in general. I welcome any information anyone can provide on this set. This is a Pezon Et Michel Bamboo fly rod. Made in Paris Amboise. The writing on the rod above the cork handle reads: Ritz Superparabolic Wading Type McClane. 7 3 I think, 765 or S gGg 3 3/8 oz. All three sections are full length. One tip has a slight set to the right. Very minor. The tips are numbered at the male ferrule#1& 2. The bag still has a partial hang tag which has been torn. This rod appears to be very clean and blemish free. All of the sections measure 43 1/2" in length. The label on the tube is not legible other than the company name and logo. No top for the tube. Young. Paul, 8’0” Parabolic 15, bamboo fly rod. This rod actually measures 7’11” and the windings on the tips do not quite line up, so I have reason to believe that maybe a new tip was made at a later date. It is an oil-finished rod, with Young’s mortised cork reel seat and his knurled nickel silver sliding band and stamped butt cap. Although it is hard to see, one tip section is marked“Dry” and the other“Wet, not unusual for Young rods. The ferrules are the marked Super Zs and they fit perfectly. This rod feels, when put together, like a Para 15, yet it is just a bit short. It comes with the original Young bag and a replacement tube. Anybody looking for a nice Young they can feel comfortable fishing? Note this is a five day auction.

Hull. Minert, 6’6” five-strip bamboo fly rod. Here is the nicest of the four Hull rods I recently purchased. It is an oil-finished rod with Hull’s hammerhead cork grip and a very nice knurled aluminum sliding band and butt cap over cork. The rod is mounted with marked Super Z ferrules and Hull’s usual anti-foul butt section guides. Both tip sections are quite straight and full-length. I doubt this rod has been used very much. There are no repairs and none are needed. It comes in a cloth bag which may be original, and a brass capped Champion tube that has Hull’s name in two places. This is a beauty, made for fast WFF 5 line. Note this is a five day auction.

This is a very nice vintage Wright McGill Granger Aristocrat bamboo fly rod. Made in Denver under a 1938 patent. It looks lightly used. There are a couple of small nicks to the finish but there are no signs of misuse or abuse. With an extra tip, each section is 34.5" long thus 8'6" Works well with a 4wt or 5wt set-up. The ferrules are tight fitting. They will likely need a cleaning if you intend to use this bamboo rod on the water. The grip looks to have been sanded at some point. The pieces are straight and it appears well cared for. I have a cloth bag and aluminum tube as well. The tube is a good 10" longer than the rod sections so I'm not sure if it is original. Fully marked, it is offered here with a reasonable, convenient buy-it-now price. Free shipping.

The box has sliding compartments, a few junk flys, fly fishing bobbers, leader material, etc. There is an extra end piece to join the upper rod section to the lower. That is kind of interesting. The box needs restored, ends missing and some delamination, but with a couple of hours of work, some wood, and some glue it could look great. I long ago quit trying to mess up stuff by fixing it. I'll leave it to the pro's. The rod looks to have never been used. I see no oil stains on the cork and no signs of flexing in the windings. She looks pretty near pristine. The size baffles me a bit. VINTAGE 8 1/2' Trade BAMBOO FLY ROD Heddon? South Bend? Montague?
This Ed Maynard trade rod was apparently sold at a sporting goods store in Plymouth. NH. Although the hardware is not of the highest quality, it does seem to be nice cane and has a substantial swelled butt which reminds me of Heddon rods. Oddly enough, the guides are reverse English twist. The decal is pretty neat and has the logo"The sign of the little dog" One tip has a slight crook or two and has a thin 1" piece of cane missing, but is solid and seems fishable. The other is much straighter with no issues. The female butt ferrule has a crack that has started and has been reset with JB Weld and is solid as a rock and ready to fish. Other than a small chip out of the cork, the grip and reel seat show little signs of use. It has a medium action and would make a great bluegill or trout rod, probably a 6 wt, but I have not cast ... moreit. If you are looking for a museum piece. Please move on to the next 7 1/2' Battenkill. If you are looking for a beautiful, chocolatey colored 60 year old Orvis that is ready to fish for another 60 years, then this is your rod. The original wraps were dried and cracked so it was re-wrapped in the correct#541 Gudebrod brown with three coats of varnish. The ferrules, winding check and tip tops were re-blued by the best man in the business- Dave Leclaire. They have a nice snug fit and the familiar pop when pulled apart. This is a sweet rod that deserves to be fished, as they cast 5 or 6 weights and are known to be great all-rounders for dry, wet and streamer fishing. I re-wrapped with silk thread. I finished with 5 coats of Spar Varnish. Which was hand dipped. I put a great deal of time in my rods and it’s a high quality refinish. Up for auction is a VINTAGE 3 PIECE BAMBOO FLY ROD? MAKER UNKNOWN OVER 8' LONG. I am in no way an expert on fishing or fishing equipment so I have taken lots of photos for you to view. This pole measures almost 9 feet long when I put it together but each piece did not fit easily all the way in and I did not want to force it so I measured each piece separately. The handle measures about 37" the middle piece about 36 3/4" and the tip approx 35 1/4" I'm pretty sure it is bamboo and pretty sure it is a fly rod. There is a greenish case that had a label at one time and a tube that it will ship in. The rod itself looks to be in good condition but again. I'm not an expert. There are some scratches where the reel attaches. Please ask any questions before bidding and good luck!

Offered is an all-original Phillipson Pacemaker bamboo fly rod. Nine-foot, 3-piece, 1-tip; it weighs 5 5/8 ounces. The rod comes with two tips, but one tip has a split just below the tip top wrap(seen in the picture) so the rod is sold as a one-tip rod. Lime green wraps with gold tipping. It comes with the original fiberboard rod tube, sans screw top, rod sack(in good shape) and the screw on portion of the tube is missing. The label is 90+ percent, but has been wrapped with clear tape. The rod also comes with a new black aluminum rod tube. The Pacemaker. Which sold for $25 in 1952, was an"every man's fly rod. And was an ideal Western trout rod. The cork has slight ridging and has been cleaned at some point. It is the full Wells grip. But not the elliptical, hammer, grip. It has" Phillipson Pacemaker" written on one plane of the shaft next to the winding check. While the rod tube is marked for a HCH-7-weight line. The rod came alive for me with a WF6 Cortland Sylk line. Bill Phillipson, of course, ran the rod shop for Granger/Wright McGill before opening his own shop in Denver, CO. I am able to ship only to addresses served by the USPS in the continental U.S. The rod will be shipped via USPS Priority Mail. 9 Foot Montague Colorado Special Vintage Bamboo Cane Fly Rod
NOTE: I added new photos of the broken ferrule section. NOTE! You can see it in the photo. But I forgot to mention that one of the tip's male ferrule has broken off and is lodged in the mid section's ferrule. From my research the rod is a Montague Colorado Special from the 1920s. It's in relatively good condition. All the sections are full length and solid. There are some wraps missing and one of the tip tops is not original.

The rod was made between 1923 and 1926 and sold at the J.B. Hunter Co. 60 Summer Street. Boston, Mass indicated by etched in metal at bottom of rod. The rod was built by Fred Thomas according to an ad for the rod found by goggling the store name from 1923. The ad indicated that the price for the rod in 1923 was $16.00 The rod is in terrific condition considering it is 90 years old and has a few minor blemishes in the finish(see photos) Cork handle. Reel seat and threading are in excellent condition. This is an original rod that has not been refinished. Used very little- beautiful. From my Dad's collection.
