For sale is a vintage bamboo fly rod made in Bangor. Maine by F. E. Thomas. Butt cap has 4 on it. The rod has a total of 5 pieces and comes with 2 tips. Originally, it would have been 4, I assume. Since the two longest sections are 36 1/2 inches, I believe the rod started out as a 9 foot. F.E. Thomas is likely to have the records on how this rod was originally built and delivered. It is in nice condition but there are three sections that are now shorter than original so there have been repairs. Guides and ferrules are all excellent. Up for bid is this antique/ vintage SOUTH BEND BAIT CO. split bamboo fly rod with"aluminum ferrules. Complete with two tips, original bag, and screw-capped, cardboard fiber tube. This 9-footer was sold in the late 1940s and 50s. Features a recessed thumb rest that was sculpted into the cork grip. It is Rod. No. 59 as stated on the bag and also on the rod itself. Rod looks to be in excellent condition, appears to have never been used. No missing parts, no rust. The rod has a wood grip and has a total length of approximately 101 inches(8 feet 3 inches) when assembled. The pieces come apart with a pop. There are no makers marks that I could find. There are some issues.the largest female ferrule has a crack in it(see photo with pen pointing to the split) and the female ferrule. On the second section, looks like it may be a replacement and looks like it needs to be refitted on the mid section's end. Please see the photographs to determine exactly what you will receive. Beautiful brass or copper crafted handle split bamboo fly fishing rod with steel threaded case. Used condition. This piece has a heavy lacquer finish with unions. Handle caps and components made of copper or brass pieces. Upon assembly the rod seems to go together tightly, I have indicated that one of the rod unions has a little play that may require repair in the future. Although I am not an expert this piece appears to be completely in tact with minimal wear except for a few scratches and dings. Through my research on this rod I was in formed by an expert that this rod was most likely made by the Montague company circa 1910(his opinion) or possibly a union hardware 1920 rod. Most likely a mid grade rod in which the case is not original. Being sold in estate quality condition un cleaned. Repaired or refurbished with wear from age and use. ... moreThe handle and reel clamp has not been tested and may require repair. The case has some wear along with a manufacturers tag that indicates SUN VALLEY(a notorious fishing destination in Idaho I believe) as well as the previous owners tag. Measures 9 ft long. Parker. Jon, 7’6” UNUSED bamboo fly rod. This is a beautiful example of Jon’s work, considered by many to be one of our best makers. This one, made for a#5 DTF line in 1989, has the mortised wood reel seat with blued nickel silver butt cap and sliding band, and the traditional Payne-styles cigar grip. It has Super-Z-styled ferrules, and both tip sections are full length. This is a dry fly action, somewhat on the fast side, with a progressive taper that will deliver line effortlessly. There are no signs of any use on this rod, with flawless varnish and tips as straight as they can be. The top guides look fresh, and there are no reel tang marks on the reel seat. It comes in the original cloth bag and aluminum tube with Jon’s label.

The rod says"Crown Brand. Tokyo Japan" The rod is in great condition as shown, the only part that seems to have flaws is the rubber base as shown which is very minimal. Hardly used HARISZO CO. JAPAN bamboo(the real deal) fly rod. type"C-C" Wood case is original and tenoned together. yet in need of regluing as is getting fragile. Twelve flies that are probably original. Three tips. variable length sets. All rappings appear original and see no damage or wear at all. The prior owner tied own flies and those here possibly came in the case when new. Small lightly scroll-punched metal hinges are very good and pivot fine. Lengths of all pieces will posted in a revision very soon. This is a light project yet an easy one for one who knows light woodworking and proper restoring with correct glue. there may be a small piece of wood miss ingthe plated metal is pitted slightly yet very very good condition overalll. no rust visible. cork handle is truely in tact and though dry count be treated and used. Up for auction is a VINTAGE SPLIT BAMBOO FLY ROD/ D-E with ARROW/ 3PC/ 8'6" TAPPERED SHAFT. I found this old rod in the garage of an estate sale. It was marked on the outside of an old tube"OLD FLY ROD" It has 3 pieces all straight and all the same length. It has a very nice tapered shaft and the eyes and wrappings are good. There are no markings on the rod. The reel seat is marked TRADE MARKED D-E and has an arrow going through the letters. The cork grip shows a little wear. The cloth sock is homemade and I have no idea if the rod is original to the rod. This is a very nice rod and one for your consideration. Thanks for looking. Has one guide missing. Other then that all guides are still tightly wound on all rods. The cork is in excellent condition as well. It looks to be most of the flies are still in the set. Now. The case is tired from all of the moving around I guess. The pictures show the issues. But I believe it is an easy fix for a handy person. The box measures 2 ¾ x 3 ½ x 34 inches long. The tube with label is original with the original price of $19.95 written on the label. This Stream& Lake model is 8 1/2 feet and weighs in at 4 1/2 oz. It is nice! It is a 3 piece rod with an extra tip so 4 pieces total. Rod sleeve for shipment will be a from a vintage HI fly rod. Looks like 2 guides have been remounted. Otherwise beautiful rod with 2 tips. 1 tip is about 3.5 inches shorter than the other. Original tube has hole poked in top for ventilation. See photos. These 4 bamboo fly rods could all use restoring. As they sit it looks like 2 of them are fishable. They are all 8.5 or 9 foot poles. Some have an extra tip. The top one is the chancellor, the nicest of the 3. The 2nd one down looks like someone started to refinish it and gave up.it has no name left on it.maybe you recognize it. The Sunlight is from Tokyo. The Jim Dandy is missing the last guide on the end tip, but otherwise is fishable as well.

1914 Hardy Bros. Ltd. Alnwick. England 9' 3/2 BAMBOO FLY FISH ROD Cloth Sock& Leather Strap Bamboo Tube Extra Tips From a Connecticut Estate Auction comes this 1914 Hardy Bros. Ltd. Alnwick, England, 9' long BAMBOO FLY FISHING ROD. As shown. This three section rod has three additional tips, one of which is lighter in color so may not be original or may have been repaired and refinished. The butt has the Hardy Bros. name. Etc. along with the serial number A90339 which dates it to 1914 if my research is correct. The only thing I note is one guide which has detached from its wrapping. I know nothing about fly fishing gear so please ask questions of ask for more photos and I'll be happy to oblige. The four tips are: 34 1/2” 33 1/8” 27” and 25 1/2” I note the handle section. Which does have its hook keeper, has tiny threads randomly ... moreunder the shellac and, among virtually all other things about antique fly fishing rods, I am clueless but did want to mention it. Other than those things I've noted, this appears to my inexpert eyes as being in excellent used condition. The bamboo tube has its original leather cap which buckles closed and. Remarkably, the 100 year old leather has age cracks but is intact. The bottom of the tube has a piece of tape around it. This is one of a number of fly fishing pieces I recently acquired from the Estate of Arthur Milliken who was headmaster of the Westminster School in Simsbury. CT from 1936 to 1956 and after whom a dormitory is named. Although I believe the whole family fished, many of the items in the estate apparently belonged to Mr. Milliken's mother, an early avid fly fisher in the early 1900's which would be consistent with the 1914 manufacture of this rod. The 5 ¾” cork handle is in very good condition. There is a hairline crack on the screw down lock reel seat which has been repaired with epoxy. It will not affect the mounting or use with a fly reel. There are a seven snake eye guides all of which are new and have been professionally rewrapped. The rod fits together perfectly when assembled. VINTAGE GORGEOUS SOUTH BEND 359-9 FLAMED SPLIT BAMBOO FLY FISHING ROD This auction is for a vintage custom four piece South Bend 359- 9’split bamboo fly rod with original storage clothe and tube. There is a South bend decal and a 359-9 inscription. The 359 model was considered South Bend’s”dry fly action” rod. All of the sections measure 37” I would estimate it would match nicely with a six weight fly line. The six inch Comficient cork handle is in good functional condition and contains the original decal. There is South Bend lite lock reel seat with a cool looking ivory marbleized pyralin spacer. The mid and tip sections have three snake eye guides and a stripper guide on the bottom section. All of the guides are new and have been professionally rewrapped in a red with gold trim. Very cool looking to highlight the flamed cane. The rod fits ... moretogether perfectly when assembled, has the distinct“pop” sound when removed and all sections are straight. Tghere are some tears in the storage clothe. I meticulously stripped the old varnish. Refinished with four coats of spar varnish and completed it with high quality wood rubbing compounds. The ferrules have been buffed and polished.
