VINTAGE HEDDON PREMIER#115 SPLIT BAMBOO FLY FISHING ROD CLOTHE/TUBE This auction is for a vintage refinished four piece Heddon Premier# 115 split bamboo fly rod with the original storage clothe and tube(missing end cap) There is a“Heddon Premier” and# 115 8 ½’ 2F HDH or E inscriptions. The rod measures 8’4” with one tip and 8’1” with the second tip. There is a patent number on the reel seat cap which reads 1807078. I would estimate it would balance with a modern day five weight fly line. The seven inch cork handle and screw down lock marbleized reel seat are in great condition. There are three snake eye guides on the mid section. One of which has been professionally rewrapped, four on one tip section and three on the second shorter tip. There is a stripper guide on the bottom section. Both tip eyes are new. The rod fits together perfectly ... morewhen assembled. There is a natural set which will not affect the casting or use of the rod. I meticulously stripped the old varnish. Refinished with four coats of spar varnish and completed it with high quality wood rubbing compounds. The ferrules have been buffed and polished. The light brownstone colored bamboo cane and varnish finish are beautiful. This would be a great fly rod for early spring fishing on brushy creeks and streams using nymph and dry fly patterns. The reel seat with the screw at the end is a typical Hardy style seat. Found on a wide range of rods by American makers in the 30's and 40's. Montague, South Bend, and even FE Thomas used this reel seat on some of their higher end rods. For a short time, Montague used it on the Manitou and Red Wing models. The Precision(usually inked as"Wards Precision" on the shaft) was a standard model in the Montgomery Wards line-up for decades. I can't remember seeing a Precision model that I thought was made by Montague. And this one does not seem to have any strong Montague traits to me either. It is an 8 1/2 footer in a TWO PIECE configuration rather than the typical 3 piece of the originals and copies being made today. I built this rod for myself in the two piece because of my own preference over three piece rods. I've used it to chase large trout. But it could be used for bass, pike and even some medium steelhead if you wanted. I've decided to sell it because of some wrist and thumb problems and I don't use it anymore. With one the rod measures 98" With the other it measures 95" The spinning rod measures 65" This rod appears to be maybe missing one of the eyes in the middle piece of the fly rod. See photos. Vintage Horrocks Ibotson. SUPER CANE" bamboo fly rod. 2 tip end peices. all the eyelets in great shape. cork handle is great. The reel seat glue has dried and the metal sleeve does twist, but does not have any scratches where the reel attaches(like never had a reel on it) Ike Walton on shaft near handle(pic) The decal is entirely intact, reads"super cane, impregnated bamboo, H I, Horrocks Ibbotson Co, Utica, ny. Early Shakespeare No.3315-9 Bamboo Fly Fishing Rod 9' Bag
This rod is from the early 1920s. Condition is very good plus. A previous owner stripped the butt section for refinishing. Did a very good job, little damage to the intermediate wraps. Ready for a new coat. The cork grip is 5 1/2" long and clean. There is an agate stripping guide. The mid and two tips are in their original condition, alligatoring to the finish. All wraps and guides are in place, unmarred. All sections are straight and the proper length. The slide band is stamped"3315-9/Shakespeare(in script)MADE IN U.S.A.PAT'D" The tip-tops are tiny, back to the silk line days. This is a neat rod, with a non-original bag and fiber tube, no cap.

It was natural to consider making bamboo fly rods. I learned the craft from a master craftsman and made several rods. Additionally I obtained over twenty older bamboo fly rods on which I could practice my new craft and build my skill level. Well one thing led to another and I have never left my current craft. There is just not enough time in the day to be a practicing master of two time consuming crafts. So I have decided to exit the crafting of fine bamboo fly rods. And to that extent I am selling the rods and supplies that I collected to master the craft. This is definitely a rod to be restored. The ferrules which are chrome over brass are so corroded and pitted that they will have ... moreto be replaced. The stripping guide is missing and will need to be replaced. On the positive side all the glue joints are solid and varnish is intact. The cork grip is in excellent shape. Comes with a homemade pvc rod case. Antique Bamboo and Cork Fly Fishing Rod w Metal Tips
We have here a beautiful vintage bamboo fishing rod. It has a cork handle. Metal tips, bamboo shaft and is wrapped in thread. The eyes are attached by thread and are small metal loops. It measures 82" tall when put together. Most of the thread wraps are intact. Some are loose and coming off, they can easily be re-wrapped. Some of the thread wraps are missing, you can tell by the different color on the bamboo. The bamboo is in great shape. No cracks or breaks at all. All the metal tips are nice and tight. The handle however is a little loose, not the cork, just the metal end at the bottom of the handle. None the less this is a BEAUTIFUL vintage rod in great shape. Vintage Shakespeare #1300-B 3/2 Bamboo Fly Rod with Rod Bag
This is a Vintage Shakespeare Bamboo Fly Rod- see all 4 photos below. Fresh out of a local estate. I am not sure if this rod is in the correct bag or not. The rod seems a bit too long for the rod bag. The rod bag label says 1300-B 8-1/2' but this rod measures closer to 9' All I can say is that this rod was found packed away in the basement of a local estate and it was in this bag when I got it. It was the only Shakespeare rod we found at the home. Very good, used condition. No damage. All line guides, wrappings, ferrules look good. Cork& reel seat are fine. Most of the label is missing and some of the finish/varnish has flaked off in spots. No damage, no repairs. Handle section measures 36-7/8" middle section measures 36-3/4" one tip section measures 36-1/2" other tip section measures 34-3/4" The shorter length ... moretip looks 100% original, I do not believe it has been repaired- wrapping aligns properly with the end line guide and matches the style of the other tip section. Vintage bamboo fly rod parts. Butts. mids. tips.
This is for a lot of nine bamboo fly rod sections for use as restoration or rod repair. There are three buts. two mids and four tips. One of the butts is for a reversable rod. Two of the butt sections are 32-1/2" and one is 42" The 42" butt is a very nice butt for a 7' two piece rod. It is labeled. Genuine Tonken Cane. HI. Model Meteor. This has a wood grip and reelseat with a sliding band and is in pretty good shape. One mid is 32" and the other is 36" All the butts and mids have the ferrules. Reel seats, and some guides. Not all the guides are present. The longest tip is 36" but there is a crack in the cane near the tip end. The other three tips are 29 to 30" and may or may not be original length. Ten Bamboo fly rod tips. Bamboo fly rod. Rod building and repair
This is for a lot of vintage bamboo fly rod tips. There are ten tips total. They range from 32-1/2" to 36-1/2" long. They all have ferrules and tip tops except one with no tip top. This tip has a ferrule but no guides. All the rest appear to have all the guides on them. The two tips at the top of the photos have an issue. The light colored tip has a repair wrap about 4" from the tip. It is well done and almost invisible. The other one is the one with no guides and has a separation about 3" long in the cane about half way up. I don't know if it is separated or a piece of cane is missing. The other eight tips are good. They appear to be full length. There do not appear to be any tips that where broken at the tip top end. Possibly one may have been shortened at the ferrule end. Not sure. The two tips with the blue tape ... morearound them are a matching pair of tips. Some of These tips need some straightening. The finish is good on some and some the finish is worn. Vintage Bamboo Fly Rod Tips - Middle Section - Store Box - Parts - Maker Unkown
I have these old bamboo fly rod tips and the box they came in at one time and I have absolutely no use for them. Hoping perhaps there are some rod restoration folks tuning in who may see this as an opportunity to grab some pieces to get an old rod back in working order. First let me describe the tips: Two of them are the same. The OD of the male ferrule end is 0.200 inches for these two smaller tips. Another tip has an OD I measure at 0.290(0.300? inches. All three of these tips measure 32-1/2 inches overall. Then there is a middle section also. It measures 33 inches. the male ferrule is 0.300 inches and the female is 0.200 inches. The box is rough but functional. It has little functional value but these were in it so I am selling as a package. It is a novelty at least! Vintage bamboo fly rod. Metal reel seat is marked"F. E. Thomas Special. Bangor, Me. Maine) Butt is also marked"A 470. Rod measures about 8 1/2 feet long. Two tip sections are included. One is darker than the other and about an inch or less longer than the other. This darker tip section is also a bit less in diameter than the other sections. Sighting down the tips they appear fairly straight, with slight bends. Rod is pretty clean and may have been restored and or refinished at one time. It appears to be pretty fishable. Mid male ferrule and butt female ferrrule match as does the mid male and the tip female but the sets don't match each other. Mid and ... morebutt fit together well and"Pop" when separated, male mid ferrule and female tip ferrule fit is not as tight as it should be. Tip section has a slight set to the right. Intials WHR are written in black ink between the end of the grip and the hook keeper. Personally speaking if I had been responsible for this re-build effort I wouldn't have advertised the fact. Includes a generic rod sleeve and a very nice aluminum rod tube but somebody with more patience than me needs to work on getting the cap to fit better. This is a terrific medium to fast action bamboo rod that is very fishable and will give somebody quite a few years of pleasure. It deserves to be fished rather than sit on a shelf someplace. BEAUTIFUL WRIGHT MCGILL BAMBOO FLY ROD!! NO RESERVE!!
I have this really good looking older style Wright McGill 9 foot bamboo fly rod. It is marked Wright McGill. Denver Colorado on the reel seat but I do not see a model name. All sections straight and same length except for the middle section which is about an inch short. All wrappings intact varnish is beautiful, cork is undamaged. I think this rod probably had a professional refurbishing done on it. Rod comes with storage bag but no tube. Please see pictures for a great idea as to how nice a rod this is. For your consideration is a Vintage Split Bamboo 3-Piece 9' Hexagon Fly Rod w/Reel. The rod comes with a fly reel attached. The rod is showing signs of age and use. Having only three original guides attached to the top section. The wrappings are either loose, unraveled or missing. The cork handle is intact but also shows signs of use and age. The reel appears to work fine turning smoothly, and has its original wood handles. It does have tarnish, and rust spots. Neither the rod or reel have any visible makers marks. Vintage Trademark Grant 1 Split Bamboo Fly Rod
Used but not anytime recently. This was one of my Grandfathers rods(another one also being listed) I don't know much about split bamboo rods. Nor do I fish with them. It is a 3 piece rod that is in nice condition. The old man took good care of his stuff. The pics don't say much(used my cell phone camera) As you can see the label is damaged/missing a piece but that is about it. All the guides are in place and you could fish with this rod tomorrow, but would look much better as a display piece. 9'0" Bamboo Fly Rod - 1930s or 1940s - Extra Tip - Collectible!!!
I really don't know the history of this rod and I'm really only guessing that it was made in the 30s or 40s. Its been in my fly tying room for years. My Dad picked it up somewhere along the line. But I never heard a story to go with it. Its not a Powell or anything even close. It is a very cool old bamboo fly rod. I cast it with 6 weight line and it was actually better than I expected. It does come with an extra tip that was never wrapped with the two center islets. As you can see from the picture the sock label that had the makers name has worn away to the point you can't tell what it said. Its a great rod for a cabin wall, fly shop decoration, man cave or to just play around with when you want something really different than graphite. No splintering or cracks, absolutely no rotting, nothing is broken, the segments are all the same length(no broken tips that were capped off) I would even rate the original finish as probably a 97 out of 100. There are a few small chips out of the cork, but it sounds like you are going to be re-wrapping the rod so I'm guessing that isn't a concern. We think my Dad is the original owner, but either way it is obvious that the rod was always well cared for. I hope that helps! Vintage 8'6" Heddon 3/2 bamboo fly rod. #14
Heddon 8'6" bamboo fly rod in very good condition. It is three section with two tips. The finish is good. The sections are all full length and straight except one tip is split at the tip(see photos) All ferrules are tight and solid. The reel seat is very good to excellent. It has a redish brown praline spacer. The cork is complete with lite wear. The Rod is marked Heddon#14 just above the hook keeper. The guides and wrappings are all very good.
