This is a Vintage Farlow's Co. The Elf" Split Cane Bamboo fly rod. It was made by C. Farlow Co. In London. I don't know what year it was built. But it looks like it was never fished and is in excellent condition. The serial# on the but is 33672. The fly rod comes with 2 tip sections. The rod is a 4-5 WT and measures 6'6" in total length. There are 1 ring guide and 1 loop guide on the butt section, and each tip section has 6 loop guides plus the tip. All the guides and loop tip guides are perfect. The ferrule's are perfect and they slide into the main rod section with ease and has a snug fit. The cork handle is nice and clean with No imperfections whatsoever. All the guides line up nicely when the tips are attached. The wrapping is nice and perfect. There is a hook keeper ring and perfect. The rod itself is nice and ... moreclean. R.L. Winston Bamboo Fly Rod San Francisco Rare Light Line taper 8’ 3” 4wt
A two-piece one-tip San Francisco Winston in a rarely encountered light line configuration. 8ft 3inch for 4 wt line, 3 ¾ oz rod, with original bag and tube. The original customer’s name is not on rod but all other writing was preserved during restoration of the rod at Winston in 2001, during which I was provided the following details. Rod was shipped by Winston to a customer in San Francisco on Aug 25, 1959. The butt diameter is 0.300” at 1 ft vs 0.350” at 1 ft for Winston’s 8’ 5 wt rod which also weighs 3 ¾ oz, and the rod has a fine tip of 0.063” During restoration the ferrules were refit and reglued, and a slightly larger stripper and first bridge guide was used. Note that the rod has a total of 4 bridge guides, three on the butt section and one on the tip! Original snake guides were used, and the rod was re-wrapped in the original ... morecolor pattern. The grip and bakelite downlocking reel seat are original. The rod has not been fished since restoration. Leacock's St Louis is the brand. Some one gave tis to my father in the forties I think. I used it with a 5 weight once in Wyoming- it might be better with a heavier line. It is 9 feet three piece no case or bag. It has all originall guides and ferrels. Though some of the wrappings need repair. The stripping guide is lined with red glass or some other translucent material. The reel seat is simple and good looking. I've had this displayed for a long time- needs a new home.

There are four snake eye guides and a tip top eye on the tip section and a new stripper guide on the bottom section. The rod fits together perfectly when assembled. I meticulously stripped the old varnish. Refinished with four coats of spar varnish and completed it with high quality wood rubbing compounds. The ferrules have been buffed and polished. All sections are full length and it has a beautiful 3 X 3 node pattern. The ferrules are very tight and pop when taken apart. The rod is very straight with the exception of one tip with just the slights set. Near the tip(very slight) It has been recently restored, and yes the colors of the wraps are as close as the original color as you can get, and they are not beige, they are a silver/grey thread, they just have not yellowed due to age. Here is a Heddon bamboo rod. I believe a Model 10 Blue Waters. The rod had just been professionally refinished when I bought it a decade or so ago. I have only fished it a couple times. This is great little dry fly rod, prefect for midge hatches too. I like it with a DT-4 floating line. The original bag has a nice Heddon label; the rod identification tag is ripped and hard to read, but I do believe these are the#2 dry fly ferrules. Comes with original aluminum tube with replacement cap. Ferrules fit tight, rod is straight, no repairs, nice wraps, very light to the hand. Here is a Custom made rod.I think.purchased at an Estate Sale about 10 years ago. This is a 2/2 9 foot rod that's straight and true. Each tip has a slightly different male ferrule. But the performance is the same. The rod is labeled a 7/8 weight, but I found a WF-7 ideal. I used the rod on the Russian in Alaska for Silvers and Dolly Varden and in British Columbia for Bull Trout and the rod was marvelous. It may be a home made rod from an amateur maker, but to me it feels and looks more like a refinished Edwards or Thomas canoe rod. The cork and reel seat appear as new. Comes with Orvis type aluminum tube. Ferrules fit tight, rod is straight, no repairs, nice wraps, feels light to the hand for a 9 footer. I'm offering today one of my bamboo rods. I have several in this size and just don't need them all. This one is an 8 1/2 foot. Three piece, one tip that I have cast with both a WF4 and WF5 modern line and it cast well with either. The finish on it is a bit rough, not crazed, or sticky, or anything like that. It's just not pretty so to speak. The rod is totally usable as is and has many years left in it. I don't have the bag or tube just the rod.There are a couple chips at the front of the cork, and I think someone tried to clean the cork at some point. Hope someone can put it back to work. Vintage Majestic Bamboo Fly Rod - Three Piece with Cork Handle
This is a old"Majestic" three piece bamboo fly rod with a cork handle. I really do not know much about this brand or the age but it looks to be in decent shape with no major issues. The Rod itself is 80" long with the top section being 26" and the other two sections 27" each. The guides and wrapping look good and the cork handle has some scuffs. But is really not too bad. The biggest thing I see is that the top section is not exactly straight, now having a slight bend to the left, and it is a tight fit for the first and second sections of rod(I did not want to"grease" them but think this would help) Over all, not perfect, but not too bad. AJ Thramer Bamboo Fly Rod - Hollowbuilt
Here is an AJ Thramer 7' 6" 3/2 Hollowbuilt fly rod based on an F E Thomas taper for a 4wt line. Serial number is E15. This is a very sweet casting rod. The hollow building provides a bit crisper feel for a DT4 and will take a DT5 as well though I think the DT4 is the optimum. Ferrules are 14 and 10. All sections are full length and straight. It features a nice cap and ring reel seat with an African mahogany spacer. I custom ordered this rod in 2005 as a 10th anniversary gift for my wife who only fished it once. Classic Heddon No.14 Bamboo Fly Fishing Rod 9' With Bag
I believe that this rod has been restored. Other than the fact that the agate stripper guide needs to be rewound and a snake guide on the mid section needs to be replaced this rod is in very good to excellent condition. All sections are full length at 36 1/2" Very slight set to the tip section. The uplocking reel seat appears to be a modern replacement. All plastic, very attractive. The rod is signed"Heddon" in script wrapped around the shaft. The"14" is just above the wraps at the winding check. The ferrules are"popping" tight. The rod comes in a bag and aluminum tube. No cap. Sunning. South Bend, 24, 9' fly rod. This fly rod is in near mint condition, has two tips,and used only a couple of times. The cork grip looks unused as does the pole. I am not sure of the exact age, it was my fathers, and I know it hasn't been used for at least 50 years. It is lacking the cloth case but has the original aluminum tube. Vintage custom 1937 bamboo fly rod
This 1937 vintage custom made 8 ft 9in. 4 piece bamboo fly rod. All components of the rod appear to be the heddon brand. The rod butt has"summer of 1937" written on it in heddon classic fashion although heddon is not signed on this rod. Has red agate rod guide. Butt piece and two tips measures 36.5 in and the middle piece measures 33 in. Every part of this rod is in very nice shape, showing no wear at all other than the fact that it looks like a rod that was made in the summer of 1937. Comes with a cloth holder. It's my pleasure to offer at auction a Nice 1936-1938 HEDDON No.14"THOROBRED" 9 FT. 3/2 SPLIT BAMBOO FLY ROD WITH THE ORIGINAL BAG& STAMPED ALUMINUM TUBE. The No.14"Thorobred" was first introduced by James Heddon's Sons in 1927 and would sell continuously through 1952. Because this example carries the Classic Era rodshaft markings(used through 1938) and has the up-locking pyralin seat(used from 1936 to 1938) we know this was only built in 1936 to 1938. Heddon's Cleo Hanley has handwritten"Heddon" diagonally along three flats and"14" on one flat, just above the hook keeper. The reel seat locking ring is stamped"PAT. NO.1624052" the 1927 patent assigned to Heddon for the screw-locking reel seat. Rod is built on a No.2-1/2 ferrule, an all-around action for both bass& trout ... moreand is considered a modern 6 or 7 wt. rod. Built with high-grade browntone Tonkin cane and comes equipped with extra tip section, blackened hardware, crystal agate stripping guide, tungsten steel snake guides& tip tops, hand-welted serrated ferrules, flip-ring hook keeper, wound-over winding check, plastic butt cap, screw-locking"Hold-Tite" pyralin reel seat, solid cork Heddon half-Wells grip and wound in red silk tipped in black. I've added a photo of the original two-page listing from Heddon's 1936 catalog. Rod is in solid Fine+ condition, showing light to moderate wear associated with normal use. There is slight warping of the reel seat(a la pyralin) that is not very noticeable, however and doesn't affect performance in any way. Bamboo is perfect, with no splits, cracks or delamination whatsoever. All four sections are the correct equal length and are reasonably straight. Varnish is brand new, pristine and allows this example to be put to work immediately. All wraps are solid and complete. SPLIT BAMBOO FLY ROD 9' + 3 PIECES (NO NAME) Looks like Spencer or Leonard?
Really a nice rod-restored and very fishable or a collectors piece. Each section is 38" long-so it is a little longer then 9' It is made with double line guides and all are in good shape-the tip has been bent a little. But is intact and should be able to be restored. The hardware is German Silver and is a very pretty brass-silver color. The first guide on the tip piece is 10" down from the tip guide, the next guide is 18" from the last guide and the male coupler end is 10-1/4" from the third guide. The middle piece from the end of the female guide is 9-3/4" and the second guide is 18-1/4" from the first guide, and 10-1/4" to the male coupler. The 3rd piece from the female coupler to the first guide is 9-3/4" and the second guide that is a floating ring is 12-7/8" from the floating ring, which ... moreis 5" from the metal coupler on the handle cork and the handle assemble including the cork is 11-1/4" long to the end. A very beautiful rod-the varnish job is a little heavy-but I think the person who did the job was planning on using it. I will ship in a wooden box, so it won't get damaged.
