For Auction: This is a really unique and rare find. I came across this at an estate sale of an avid outdoorsman. This item was boxed and stored in a gun safe. It was clearly one of his prized possessions. This is the longest bamboo fishing pole I have ever seen. This item put together is almost 18 feet long. It has an older Pflueger reel on the pole. There are no loops for the line on it. I have scoured this pole for a makers mark or name. I can not find one anywhere. I took it to a local fly rod shop and was told that it was very high quality and a rare piece. The store owner told me that it may actually be a vintage Orvis but he could not verify. He did say that it was a once in a lifetime find and that it could have even been an early bank fishing pole. He made me a nice offer but I thought I would give ebay a shot. Anyway. Granger Victory Bamboo Fly Rod 9'. 5/6 wt. Pleasure to cast small/large flies.
This is one of my very favorite bamboo fly fishing rods for mid-size streams and definitely larger ones both in the North East and the Rockies. It's travelled with me to Maine. New Hampshire, New York, home waters in northern Vermont and countless Wyoming, Montana and Idaho streams. I've had a blast swinging soft hackles and streamers for fall runners in Yellowstone National Park on the Madison one day and used it on very large and picky trout on the flats of Henry's Fork the next. T hen on big selective trout in the lower Madison riffles. The only changes I'd make would be to lengthen the leader, tie on a smaller tippet and fish#16 to#22 flies for the hatches. This rod needs a home where it will continue to be fished. The rod is three sections. It has one tip. All sections are the same length and straight. It is 9' long ... moreand casts a 5/6 wt. line wonderfully. The action is mostly in the top-middle of the second section. Therefore. I would call it a fast/moderate. The rod is strong. It is not whimpy. Yet, it is super sensitive when dead-drifting nymphs upstream or swinging soft-hackles, speys, dees or streamers. It is equally responsive to rising and sipping fish when dry fly fishing. It roll casts and can single spey cast very well. I've used smaller Hardy Perfects, Uniquas, Marquis, Orvis CFO III/IV and Ross Gunnison G2 reels on this rod. They all felt good and worked well. The reel seat is stamped Goodwin Granger Company Denver and also reflects the patent for their threaded up-locking design. So. The rod was made between 1934 to 1941, the years when this patent seat was used. The cork handle is clean and sound, not rough and dry. Ferrules, guides and tip-tops are all tight. Windings are Black& Orange Jasper with Black tipping. The case is not the original but is much better as it's a stout aluminum with brass fittings. A very nice vintage Phillipson Peerless Impregnated bamboo fly rod. I'm selling for an elder friend who no longer fishes. It's 8 feet long; one base piece. Two tips. One tip has been reglued and over-varnished in a nine or so inch stretch just above the male ferrule. Other than that, I've taken enough high resolution pictures that you can inspect every inch of the rod yourself. I don't see any other issues other than occasional light areas where the impregnated material didn't evenly penetrate. Feb 1. 1921" Its overall length is 8' 11" SIZE: The sections measure 36 inches. 36 1/2 inches and the tip measures 35 1/2 inches in length. CONDTION: It was purchased exactly as pictured at an estate sale in this aluminum case marked Heddon's Dowagiac on its twist on cap. Up for auction I have a 2 pc 7 1/2 ft bamboo flyrod that was part of a flyshop buy out.I believe a fresh coat of varnish was put on this rod and the finish looks great.I am no expert but it was probably a custom made rod but maybe not.It is marked Ausable HDH~D for the line designation and 4oz for the weight.If I had to guess I would call it a 6 or 7wt rod it seems to be a powerful little rod.The ferrules fit nicely and pop when removing,sections look straight.US shipping only,thanks for looking and good luck.

8' F.E. Thomas Bangor Bamboo Fly Rod made for Kerr’s of Beverly Hills
F.E. Thomas Bangor Rod made for Kerr’s of Beverly Hills. CA: 8’ 3/2, 4/5 weight, excellent, restored. F E Thomas Bangor: 8' 3/2, 5 weight, excellent, partially restored. This medium action dry fly rod was made by F. E. Thomas for Kerr's of Beverly Hills. It has a Kerr's decal in excellent condition just above the signature wraps and the same decal on the rod tube. The reel seat is an all nickel silver down-locking style with The Bangor Rod stamped into the back of the reel seat. The 5 1/2 inch cigar shaped grip is in fine clean condition. The size 10 and 16 ferrules are bright nickel silver and fit tightly. The wraps are dusky red with no trim. The fine dry fly tips taper to.055 just below the tip wraps. I have replaced a couple of the wraps, polished the varnish to remove some minor scuffs and re-blacked the nickel silver tip-tops. ... moreThe second tip has a higher grade FE Thomas ferrule on it, which I salvaged from another F. E. Thomas tip to replace the original missing ferrule. The rod is now in excellent condition for use and as a wonderful and rare addition to a collection of fine rods. The brown bag and rod tube are both original and show only minor wear. The Bangor models are actually the rarest of the three F. E. Thomas grades and were initially introduced during the Great Depression to offer anglers a lower priced option than the Dirigos and Specials. The hanging tag on the rod bag has the correct data and the serial number A294 with which you can verify the original rod specifications and year of make from the current owner of the F.E. Thomas Rod Co.

Goodwin Granger Colorado Special 9050 Bamboo Fly Rod
Early Goodwin Granger Colorado Special 9050: 9’ 3/2, 5 ounces, 5/6 weight, excellent, restored. The Granger Colorado Specials were made for only three years, from 1927 to 1929. In 1930 both the Colorado and Denver Specials were discontinued and replaced by the Special, a rod that had darker cane and the now famous Granger green silk wraps. This model has been correctly restored in all respects with what appear to be all the original components. The nickel silver slide band reel seat is correctly marked for the period with Goodwin Granger Company/ Denver stamped into the reel seat but no rod name between the two knurled bands as was true if the least expensive of the Granger models at the time of manufacture. It has the original coke bottle grip in very good, clean condition with very slight ridging. The original ruby red silk guide wraps ... moreand the red and gold signature wrap on the butt have been replaced. The sections are straight and full length. It comes complete with the original wood tip protector and the olive drab rod bag. It was not sold with a rod tube when new. Granger collectors know that these early Granger rods rarely come to market and the rod is listed with an appropriate reserve. 8' Leonard Fairy Catskill Bamboo Fly Rod
Leonard Fairy Catskill: 8' 3/2/3, 3 weight, excellent, restored. This rare Leonard Fairy Catskill has two mid sections and three tips, all original. It was fully restored by rod maker and former Leonard employee R. D. Taylor sometime between 2006 and 2011. The invoice and list of work done is included with the sale. The rod weighs a bit over 2.5 ounces and has size 13 and 9 ferrules. It has full intermediate(171 according to Taylor's notes) and guide wraps of red silk. The signature wrap alone has fifteen thin and three wider bands. The guides are reverse twist and it has a snake guide rather than an agate stripping guide, which was typical of the Catskill models. The diminutive 4 1/4 inch cigar grip is clean but shows very light ridging toward the ends, the only feature of the rod that keeps it from being in mint restored condition. ... moreThe imprint on the butt cap reads"The/ H. L. Leonard/ Rod/ Leonard& Mills Co/ Makers" in five lines. The Fairy Catskill models were first made in 1894 but I do not know the year of this rod's manufacture. It comes with the original brass capped rod tube but the bag, with six compartments, was made by Taylor during the restoration. Here is a vintage Wright and Mcgill stream and lake model 9 ft bamboo fly fishing rod. This rod is in almost new condition the only issue is some of the farrels have come loose and need to be reglued. The tube has a little dammage but it has been taped. The guy i bought it from said it still had the plastic cover on the handle that said granger but when he touched it it crumbled you can still see alittle stuck on the handle see picture. I believe the rod would be about 8' when assembled for fly fishing and 5' for casting. There are compartments in the lid to hold accessories but the plastic strip is missing to hold them in place. The original decal on the rod that tells the manufacturer is too far gone to read. Looking at the rod it does not appear to have ever been used or very lightly used. Vintage Bamboo Fly Fishing Rod marked Horrocks-Ibbotson of Utica NY. Dates to the late 1930's. Three sections with an extra tip end. Measures 9 feet. No splits or cracks and the finish is excellent. All ferrules are good and the cork is good. The rod is marked Featherweight( difficult to see in pics 6& 7) Includes cloth case and frame holder. The only negative is that some of the chrome in the handle is worn as seen in pics 4& 5.

Antique Leonard Bamboo Fly Rod with two tips 10'
Here is a great old Leonard fly rod. It was owned by A. Bizard. He is from one of the founding families of Humboldt. County in northern California. Now here's the bad part, a rat ate part of the canvas bag and also gnawed a part of the middle section on the rod. The butt and the two tips are in very good condition. The rod actually looks like it had had little use. There is also some varnish on the handle. Look closely at the photos for overall condition. I'm not a rod collector so I'm not the best for questions. Each piece is 41 inches long so I guess this is a 10 foot rod.

VINTAGE SMALL STREAM 510 ULTRA LIGHT SPLIT BAMBOO FLY FISHING ROD This auction is for a vintage refinished rare three piece5’10” split bamboo fly rod. There are no manufacturer identifications. The bottom section measure 30 ½” and the mid and tip sections are 20 ½” I would estimate the fly line to be a one-two weight. The six inch cork handle and up lock screw reel seat are in good functional condition. There a total of three spiral guides on the rod. The rod fits together perfectly when assembled and has the distinct pop sound when removed. There is a slight natural set which will not affect the casting of the rod. The rod was originally intended to be a fly and casting rod but there is no casting tip section and the bottom section does not remove from the cork handle. I meticulously stripped the old varnish. I am not an expert so please ask specific questions. This is a beautiful vintage rod. The cork is in great shape. The rod sections measure as follows: Handle section 36 3/8 inches. Middle section 36 3/8 inches, Tip Section 32 5/8 inches and Second Tip 31 3/8 inches. I do not know why the tip sizes are different, if one was damaged it was professionally repaired as they both look perfect. The windings are tight and excellent. The finish looks great! Leonard. H. L. 6’0” model 37, Baby Catskill bamboo fly rod. This is the smallest, lightest rod to my knowledge that Leonard made, tipping the scales at 15/16 th oz. Everything about this rod was about saving weight. And the cork handle, butternut wood filler and the small sliding band and butt cap are all abbreviated. The stripping guide is a tiny snake guide, and the ferrules are very small indeed. The marvel of this rod is that at the small end of the tips, both of which are full length, there are actually six glued strips of bamboo! The guides are wound with the aqua-blue silk that one sees on this model, and the ferrule fits are perfect. This rod is original in every respect, with no repairs to either tip and no repairs needed anywhere. It comes in the original Leonard cloth sectional bag and brass capped tube. The middle section towards the bottom has some black marks, but these appear to be under the finish. Tube is cardboard wrapped in string, has some scuffs, a dent, and no sock. A rarely encountered H. S. Pinky" GILLUM bamboo fly fishing rod. Cane. Bamboo rod is: GILLUM: nine foot. Two Piece, Two Tip rod. Original Gillum tube with decal, rod bag? not sure if bag original, but came with rod when I originally acquired. I never had opportunity to meet"Pinky" Gillum. Two individuals who I knew and respected. Harry Darbe and Marty Keane, had told me that it was a mark of Honor to own and Fish a Gillum rod. Over the years I have encountered and actually held and flexed only six Gillum rods. Gillum rods are that rare! Considering that less than 2000 Gillum rods were ever produced. Accounts for me not encountering that many. I was seeking a Bamboo rod to fish the Upper Delaware River system. Needed a stronger actioned rod capable of reaching out to Trout that always positioned themselves. Ten feet beyond comfortable ... morecasting range. Located this nine foot Gillum rod. Rod was usable, but I realized that varnish was not intact. Not wishing to damage rod by subjecting to water exposure I had my friend, the renowned Bamboo rod Rod maker, bamboo rod Historian and Restorer, George Guba, restore my Gillum rod to'Like New Condition' After Restoration. Rod looks New, I found that I was hesitant to fish the rod. I am aging, and I fall more often while wading. It would pain me to cause any damage to such a beautiful, rare and Valuable fly rod. H.S. GILLUM rod is a Two Piece. Nine foot rod. The rod is Stamped with the" H.S. Gillum, maker" marking on it's uplocking Reel seat( see pictures) Up locking reel seat has( I believe to be) African Mahagony wood spacer. Rod is wound in tan silk with black/cream/whitish? tipping, Just Beautiful. All sections are intact, NO invisible mends or wraps. All sections display the Visible Glue Lines, Gillum rods are know for. Rod has serial# on all three sections. Gillum rods should be considered'Custom built" For he was not know to follow patterns. Young, Paul, 8’0”, Para 15 “Deluxe” bamboo fly rod.
Young. Paul, 8’0” Para 15“Deluxe” bamboo fly rod. This is Young’s famous taper that, in my hand, is perfect with a WFF 6 line. The bamboo is flame treated with one tip made for dry flies(red silk tipping) and the other wets. It comes with the correct aluminum Young down-locking reel seat, and a butt cap that is stamped with Young’s indicia. This 4.20 oz. rod is the K.T. Keller model. He was a friend of Paul Young’s, and the past president of the Chrysler Corp. Both of the tips are full-length, with very good ferrule fits. Bob Summers“reworked” this rod in 1987(there is a tag on the aluminum case with this information) and I suspect that it has not been used much since. The bag is probably not original, but the case is– yet it is missing its screw cap. A very nice, honest, Para 15.

I received this rod from a estate sale 2 yrs ago.While I was digging it out of the closet today I seem to misplaced the cap for the tube.So.It is missing the cap for the tube. This rod is marked Paul Young.The rod does assemble.And looks to be in working order.When fully assembled it's 7 ft.These is a 3 piece section rod.No extra tip section.No bag/sock.This sale is for the 3 piece rod and tube only. All stainless guides& tip top.Guides.Ferrules are intact and tight.Reel seat is part dark wood and part cork,up locking reel seat.Silver or nickel knurled winding check with a brass hook keeper. All 3 sections are the same in length 28 1/2" I don't know if the rod was ever repaired or ever restored.The rod has a fantastic gloss finish but.I'm no grader on finishes.I don't know the line weight for the rod.To me the rod ... morelooks to be close to a feather weight in diameter if that helps.I can't think of anymore detail to say about the rod.If there's something I didn't state above please,ask before placing bid or buying please? Goodwin Granger Company Goodwin C. Granger began building bamboo rods commercially in Denver. Colorado. In about 1919 and by 1920 had formed Goodwin Granger& Co. In 1926 the company was renamed Goodwin Granger Co. The early model Goodwin Rod, Granger Rod, Colorado Special and Denver Special were renamed in 1930 and the new names remained relatively consistent throughout the history of the company. New models such as the Champion and Victory were added later. All models were of consistent high quality with the same nickel silver ferrules and reel seat and the same precise construction. Only the grading of the cane. The style of the windings and the number of guides per section varied between the higher and lower priced models. All Granger rods(except the Colorado Special and Denver Special, which were light colored cane) featured a unique ... moretempering process with ammonia steam which gave the bamboo a distinct resiliency of action and a characteristic rich caramel color for which these rods are famous. Granger referred to each different named rod as grades rather than models. Models referred to specific lengths and weights within each grade. Only the grade name, such as Granger Deluxe or Granger Premier appeared on the rod shaft. The model designation appeared only on rod tubes. Therefore it is difficult to differentiate between different nine-foot models merely by inspecting a rod. All rods during the early era were identified with the grade name inscribed on the reel seat between the decorative knurled bands. With the introduction of the internal uplock seat in about 1936, the grade name was moved to the shaft of the rod and the company name was stamped in the reel seat. Mr. Granger died in 1931 but the company continued to produce high quality rods until just before World War II. Bill Phillipson was production superintendent from the time of Granger's death until the company closed because of the war. Bamboo Fly Rod - Angle Fish - Vintage - Refinished - 7'10.5" - 5wt - 3/1 pc.
Bamboo Fly Rod- Angle Fish- Vintage- Refinished- 7'10.5" 5wt- 3/1 pc. Angle Fish- may be a rod H-I built. Rod has been refinished by JWTrout. Silk guide wraps- spring creek green and black trim. Inlaid"jungle cock" feather on butt section. Original cork grip and reel seat- good condition. Originally a 8' 5wt. 3 pc. Refinished as a 7'10.5" 5wt. 3pc. some time over the years the tip was repaired at a shorter length by 1.5" Butt section above grip has a repair wrap- seam was slightly open. Not a serious problem. Ferrule wraps are black silk and epoxy coate- I felt that these areas needed more strength. Rod has 4 coats of Spar Urethane Outdoor Clear Semi-Gloss. Rod will cast a 5wt or a 6wt line well. I have cast 50 to 60 feet with the rod. Mid-Flex rod action. Tip is about 1.5" short. The rod is straight- ... morejust did a little straightening of the tip. Rod is in very good condition for its age. All ferrules are tight. Guides are H&H chrome and spaced and sized to current standards. Butt section- 32 1/8. 1950-1952 SOUTH BEND #59 9', 3/2 Split Bamboo Fly Rod With ORIGINAL Labeled
Up for auction a Very Nice 1950-1952 SOUTH BEND NO.59 9 FT. 3/2 SPLIT BAMBOO FLY ROD WITH THE ORIGINAL LABELED BAG& LABELED FIBER TUBE. This popular"Bass" action model fly rod was introduced by the South Bend Bait Co. in 1936 and would sell through the 1952 season. Because this example carries the rectangular"SOUTH BEND- A Name Famous In Fishing" rodshaft decal(used after WWII, from 1947-1952) and is equipped with the"Positive-Lock" reel seat(first equipped so in 1950) we know this was built from 1950 to 1952. Rodshaft is also stamped"59-9' on an opposite flat. I've added a photo of the original listing from South Bend's 1952 catalog. The catalog suggests it be used with today's modern 7 or 8 wt. line. Built of nicely flamed Tonkin cane and comes equipped with extra tip section, chromed ... morestripping guide, 9) snake guides, hardened steel tip tops, welted and serrated ferrules, metal winding check, anodized aluminum screw-locking"Positive-Lock" reel seat, solid cork"Comficient" ribbed(vented) grip and wound in black nylon. Rod is in Fine to Very Fine condition, showing only moderate wear that one would associate with normal use. Bamboo is perfect, with no splits, cracks or delamination whatsoever. All four sections are the correct equal length and are quite straight. Original varnish is still in good shape. All wraps are solid and complete. Rodshaft decal and markings are pristine. All guides, tip tops, ferrules(which"pop" nicely) and winding check are excellent. Reel seat works perfectly, with only very light wear. Cork grip remains in very nice original condition. Put up in the original bag, which is in Very Fine condition, with no holes or tears. Still carries a virtually perfect cloth bag label, which is correctly marked for the rod. Orvis 6 1/2' Deluxe bamboo impregnated fly rod "Battenkill" 1956 Never used!!!
This extraordinary fly rod was bought by my uncle in around 1956. He never used it! it was given to me years ago and I had it in my gun closet. Orvis Impregnated bamboo. Deluxe Style"Battenkill" 6 1/2 foot, 2 piece, 11 guides. Serial number 19049, Weight 2 oz. This rod has never been used, I don't even think its been put together. As you can see from the pics, the cork handle is light and has no signs of handling, which usually turns darker from human touch. It has 2 tips with it and is contained in a cotton plaid sheath and is placed inside an aluminum tube. The tube has the original tag on the outside. The tube and tag, as you can see, show some signs of wear from storage and moving it around. I was always going to fish with this rod. But couldn't bring myself to take it out to the stream.I really don't collect rods ... morenor do I really need it anymore. I did some research and found its very rare to find one in unused condition. So heres your chance! Thanks for looking!

Vintage Bamboo Tenkara Fly Rod 15 Ft 9 Section PLUS Extras & Case, Bag
Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 Up for bid is a vintage Bamboo Tenkara fly Rod. When assembled this measure’s 15 feet. There are 9 sections plus 2 extra sections(one is an extra tip and the other is the section prior to the tip section) There is also a corked tube for storage of the tips and a cloth storage bag(bag shows wear and holes) Overall weight of all sections. Tip case and bag is 11 oz. Longest section is 2 Feet. This does have a makers mark(pictured) I emailed Daniel of Tenkara USA who said that the name is likely Higashi but did not have any addition information on this maker. The tips also look like they may be marked(please see last photo) Pieces all look to be in very good used condition although three of the sections have a small crack at the open end of the section they don’t appear to be very long but ... moresince the outside portion has an outer wrapping you can only look inside the tube to view this. When the sections are assembled these areas are areas where the other tube is inserted so there is double strength at these points so it does not seems to effect stability and does not wobble. Sections are straight and not warped. Please note that I know nothing about fly fishing but will try and answer your questions as best as possible. I think the only real problem here is that we seem to have two of the tips and one base but no center extender piece(or 2? I think some of these were 4 pieces and some were 3. So we seem to have a base and 2 tips, plus two khaki canvas slips that were protecting them. I cannot be positive all three pieces are Ibbotson, only the base has the marking, but the other two seem very similar. Each segment is about 34 inches long. I will insure the shipment. Pickup is free at my store near Pittsburgh.
