The rod looks to be extremely old to me as a layman. It measures 116" long. There are 4 sections. There is a slight puzzle as you can see there are 4 sections but only 3 will fit together. The 4th section will fit into the end of the second but does not have an eye on the end it has the wooden dowel. It loooks to be part of the rod, but I can't work it out unless it is a spare last section. The oblong bases are ebonized with faux gilded accents at the"bamboo joints" The legs are straight and flare at the bottom. There is a cross support attached on the lower sections. The tables are open at the top and have brass trays that fit inside the openings. The brass trays feature raised edges and sleek handles on each end. These are beautiful tables. They are not marked but are similar in style to Baker tables of this era. The tables are stationery and do not fold. They are lightweight yet extremely sturdy. This is a magnificent and very old Chinese Sterling Silver Repousse and Bamboo Double Band Bangle Cuff Bracelet. Two sterling bands with beautiful repousse work of lotus flowers and other decorative geometric and floral inspired details wrap around two bamboo bands with nice aged patinas. With additional sterling details of a Foo Dog or Dragon face on either side. There is even a delicate sterling rope detail between the two bamboo bands in the back. The bracelet measures 2 3/8" inside diameter and the sterling bands in front are 7/16" wide. There is a Chinese hallmark which I can't read but the back was tested( photo 8) and it is sterling. Stunning Antique Japanese Antimony Bamboo Trinket Box 1900s
Here on offer is a stunning antique Japanese antimony trinket box featuring a bamboo design. Dating to the 1900s. The trinket box is cylindrical in shape and retains the original silk lining. The lid of this wonderfully exuberant piece is covered in bamboo in deep relief. The walls have an oriental landscape in shallow relief. The lid lifts off. The trinket box is lined in pale blue silk that is intact, but grubby. The box has a split in the base. The surface shows some evidence that it was once plated. The Japanese made many decorative items from a lead. Antimony and tin based alloy known simply as"antimony" This is almost always plated. The trinket box is offered in used antique condition. Leonard. H. L. 6’0” model 37, Baby Catskill bamboo fly rod. This is the smallest, lightest rod to my knowledge that Leonard made, tipping the scales at 15/16 th oz. Everything about this rod was about saving weight. And the cork handle, butternut wood filler and the small sliding band and butt cap are all abbreviated. The stripping guide is a tiny snake guide, and the ferrules are very small indeed. The marvel of this rod is that at the small end of the tips, both of which are full length, there are actually six glued strips of bamboo! The guides are wound with the aqua-blue silk that one sees on this model, and the ferrule fits are perfect. This rod is original in every respect, with no repairs to either tip and no repairs needed anywhere. It comes in the original Leonard cloth sectional bag and brass capped tube. Vintage Lannon 8 1/2' Bamboo Fly Rod. Made in Pueblo. CO in 1940. The rod is 3 piece and comes with an extra tip section. The rod sections fit together very tight and the finish is in very good condition. Reel seat and and cork show some light wear. The middle section towards the bottom has some black marks, but these appear to be under the finish. Tube is cardboard wrapped in string, has some scuffs, a dent, and no sock. Purchased at an estate auction. This is a classic Montague Split Cane Bamboo boat rod. It is 5' 6" tall. The rod is one piece but the handle screws loose below the reel plate to make it shorter for transport. It is used but in good condition. A rarely encountered H. S. Pinky" GILLUM bamboo fly fishing rod. Cane. Bamboo rod is: GILLUM: nine foot. Two Piece, Two Tip rod. Original Gillum tube with decal, rod bag? not sure if bag original, but came with rod when I originally acquired. I never had opportunity to meet"Pinky" Gillum. Two individuals who I knew and respected. Harry Darbe and Marty Keane, had told me that it was a mark of Honor to own and Fish a Gillum rod. Over the years I have encountered and actually held and flexed only six Gillum rods. Gillum rods are that rare! Considering that less than 2000 Gillum rods were ever produced. Accounts for me not encountering that many. I was seeking a Bamboo rod to fish the Upper Delaware River system. Needed a stronger actioned rod capable of reaching out to Trout that always positioned themselves. Ten feet beyond comfortable ... morecasting range. Located this nine foot Gillum rod. Rod was usable, but I realized that varnish was not intact. Not wishing to damage rod by subjecting to water exposure I had my friend, the renowned Bamboo rod Rod maker, bamboo rod Historian and Restorer, George Guba, restore my Gillum rod to'Like New Condition' After Restoration. Rod looks New, I found that I was hesitant to fish the rod. I am aging, and I fall more often while wading. It would pain me to cause any damage to such a beautiful, rare and Valuable fly rod. H.S. GILLUM rod is a Two Piece. Nine foot rod. The rod is Stamped with the" H.S. Gillum, maker" marking on it's uplocking Reel seat( see pictures) Up locking reel seat has( I believe to be) African Mahagony wood spacer. Rod is wound in tan silk with black/cream/whitish? tipping, Just Beautiful. All sections are intact, NO invisible mends or wraps. All sections display the Visible Glue Lines, Gillum rods are know for. Rod has serial# on all three sections. Gillum rods should be considered'Custom built" For he was not know to follow patterns. Each cylinder box is engraved and inked with geometric designs. Minor surface wear to the exteriors. The shorter box's lid fits very tightly. You rotate it to close it, and it doesn't quite close all the way. There are vertical striations in the bamboo that either picked up dark lines when the box was inked or has acquired a patina over time. The taller box has two vertical cracks in the lid that are still attached and one short vertical crack from the base of the bottom of the box for about 1/2" The boxes have not been cleaned. Antique Sterling 950 Overlay Pinch Bottle Decanter -Bamboo & Cherry Blossom
Up for auction is an antique pinched sterling overlay decanter bottle with a Japanese motif. It is in very good vintage condition and the only issue is that the cork is dried out from age and the top of the stopper has a tarnish spot When I bought this. The stopper was in all the way, but I carefully took it out and have decide not to put it back in. The bottle is 8 1/8" high without the stopper. With the stopper it would be 9" tall. It is 3" in diameter at the base and at its three widest points. It measures approximately 5" across the pinched part of the bottle. The overlay is heavy and there is no damage to the intricate design. It has bamboo leaves. Cherry blossoms and I think some sort of Chrysanthemum/mum flower.very beautiful. A beautiful vintage set of Vietnamese laquerware and bamboo nesting bowls. This set of five bowls is beautifully painted wonderful shades of red. Black and gold. The bowls rest inside each other and can be displayed as a stack, individually, or nested inside each other. The largest bowl is approximately 6" across the top and 2" high and the size of the other bowls scales down from there. Vintage( Unmarked Edward Vom Hofe ? ) Bamboo Trout Fishing Rod Pre1900
Up for Auction: An unmarked rod that was sold at an estate auction near Gettysburg PA with other vintage fishing equipment. This rod was sold as a unmarked Edward Vom Hofe 3 piece Trout Rod. Which I can not confirm for sure. I was able to research on the internet and found Edward Vom Hofe's Illsutrated Catalogue and compared it with a rod which does come very close to this rod. It was a no. 12, 3 piece Trout or Black Bass Fly Rod, which measured 9 to 11 feet. This rod assembled measures approx. 10feet 8 5/8 inches long. The first section measures 43 1/4 inches, the second section 43 5/8 iches and the last section 44 inches long. Each section has one eyelet or tie guide which also match up to the catalog. descriptions and the tip has a metal tube tip which also looks like a tip that is in the catalog. Still appears to be fishable as is but have not tested. All three pieces appear to be in good shape, and very straight when together. The reel seat has a few small flaws, dings and scratches. The thread wraps that secure the ferrules and guides all seem to be intact, tight and in very nice condition. Cork handle has some signs of ribbing, seems to be a petite style compared to the other Granger Victory rods I have. Appears ... moreto have original rod tube but is in pretty rough condition and missing cap. Please carefully inspect all of the pictures furnished. I hope they will assist in your bidding decision. I picked this up at an Estate Sale a few months back along with a bunch of other fishing and camping gear. Unfortunately I do not have any past history on this particular rod.
