This rod weighs approximately 3.6oz and it feels like it would cast 4-5wt fly lines just fine. The ferrules fit tight, and they measure 13/64. This is the correct era Heddon rod bag with blue and white sticker label. The Heddon rod tube is not original to this particular rod. This is a great piece of Heddon history with a loose tip that will need to be re-secured prior to any use. ROD MARKINGS: The rod is marked DOWAGIAC with the BASS DECAL. Vintage Bamboo Salmon fly rod (Must see!) 9ft. 4in. long Unique
For your consideration is a vintage 2 piece Bamboo fishing rod. It is 9feet 4inches long when assembled at the sturdy looking and well fitting joint. Looks like it is missing two lower eyes. I see no name or markings on it anywhere but it looks like a good quality rod and judging by the spiral marking on the handle in the third and last pictures it may have originally had a leather lanyard wrap around the handle? It has a rubber base cap that is included but is in very rough condition and has no markings either. A new rubber cane tip with the right dimensions would fit well for a replacement. Up for auction a Very Nice. All-original and somewhat Scarce CIRCA 1920 MONTAGUE CITY ROD CO. YELLOWSTONE SPECIAL" 7-1/2 FT. 3/2 SPLIT BAMBOO BAIT ROD BUILT FOR ABERCROMBIE& FITCH, WITH ORIGINAL WOOD FORM HOLDER. This"trade" rod was produced in the first quarter of the century by the Montague City Rod Co. for, and sold exclusively by Abercrombie& Fitch Co. of New York, who owned the trademarked"Yellowstone Special" brand name of fly and bait rods. These bait rod versions actually show up much less often than their fly rod counterparts and are rarely offered for sale. Without question, this is the nicest example of the few that I've seen. The reel seat is stamped"YELLOWSTONE SPECIAL- ABERCROMBIE& FITCH CO. NEW YORK" Built with what I believe to be nice Calcutta cane and comes equipped with ... moreextra tip section, 7) German silver"trumpet" guides, early double-ring tip tops, welted Montague ferrules, knurled sliding band reel seat, German silver buttcap, solid cork grip and closely wound in chestnut silk tipped in orange, with full intermediates. There are no less than 125 individual wraps. Rod is in solid Very Fine condition, showing only light evidence of use. Again, the finest I've seen. Bamboo is perfect, with no splits, cracks or delamination whatsoever. All sections are the correct equal length and are reasonably straight. Original varnish shows some unsettled areas and some thinning, but not too bad and would benefit from a nice overcoat if it was to be used. All wraps are solid and complete. All guides, tip tops, ferrules and buttcap are excellent. Reel seat works perfectly, showing only very light wear and bold stamping. Solid cork grip remains in great condition. Put up in the original fabric-covered wood form holder, which is also in very fine condition. A very nice early trade package from Montague City/A& F, all original and complete. Winston Bamboo Fly Rod 7 Feet 2 piece San Fransisco Vintage Cane Flyrod
Here is a very rare Winston prototype Experimental Fly Rod. Glenn Bracket tells me this rod was built in 1949 by Doug Merrick and Red Lasket. Two of the most esteemed builders ever, in their San Fransisco shop. The rod includes the original dark brown aluminum brass-capped tube in excellent shape and the correctly labeled Winston red rod sock. This rod is for a 6 weight line and that's what I've used when fishing it. It is a great rod if you fish for big fish, with big flies in small water. I have used this during the salmon fly hatch on the West Fork of the Bitterroot, Palisades creek in Idaho, Silver Creek and various other small waters where you need the power of a 6 line to throw a giant nymph, streamer or dry fly. Using a 4 weight to throw a#6 Sofa Pillow into a Rocky Mountain wind and then trying to turn a 20 inch fish on a ... more7 foot 4 weight rod is not good for the fish, the rod, or the angler! I have set the reserve quite low for a one-of-a-kind Winston rod. Grip has minor soiling. Rod is straight, full length, and in near-perfect shape. I know very little about fishing rods. This is a split bamboo casting or fly fishing pole or rod. It looks like new to me. But its dated 1980 and signed J.K. The guy at the fishing store told me it is an expensive, collectible pole. and had a fantastic feel. light and snap. There are 7 guides and the handle is cork. It is approx. 87" or 7' 3" long. It all looks new to me except for some aging on the metal parts of the handle. 8 1/2 foot. Three piece, two tips. Very nice private lablel rod from Bill Edwards, a Rosgen Special from Winsted Conneticut. This quadrate rod is a nice 5 weight, and weighs 4 ½ oz. Full length although the butt section is 3/8 inch longer than tips and mid. While the rod appears to be all original, there is an invisible wrap on one tip. With original bag and Peerless tube. Vintage Bamboo Fishing Cane Pole Wooden Fly Rod 12' Foot Brass Ends Antique NICE
For sale is an old vintage/antique bamboo cane fishing pole. With a beautiful spotted wood pattern/figuring. It has 3 sections with brass connectors and measures 12 feet long. Each section is approx 4 feet. So you could just use two sections for a nice 8 foot rod. Has a brass eyelet on the tip. And wire eyelets down the rod. The bamboo is very flexible yet strong, making for great action. The pieces brass fit together. But may benefit from some light sanding or some plumbers tape for a secure fit. NICE EARLY CLASSIC SPLIT BAMBOO ROD MADE IN GLASGOW SCOTLAND-dont know much about this rod or what era its from but its definitely early-the brass butt cap next to the rubber butt is marked"ROBERTSON GLASGOW& THE BONVAL" but there are no other markings on the rod-the rod is a 3 peice rod measuring between 12 ft 1 inch to 12 ft 1-1/2" and comes with a spare tip for a total of 4 sections-both female ferrule sections come with original ferrule plugs-the rod has 12 line guides including the tip guide HOWEVER the first guide on the handle section is missing/there are no missing guides on the mid section and 1 of the tip sections is missing 1 snake guide-it has a 15" cork handle which needs cleaning and features brass rear reel seat with sliding brass reel lock ring-it appears to be a quality made rod with rod wraps approximately ... moreevey 1 inch or less the entire length of each section-BUT THE ROD NEEDS TO BE REFINISHED-along with some of the missing line guides some of the wraps are missing or frayed and need replaced-and 1 tip section has a crack in the bamboo running about 7 inches from the tip of the male ferrule-its a project rod for sure but i think it has potential-will be a great display rod or could even be fished-I WILL LEAVE THIS TO YOU ROD REFINISHERS OUT THERE! BEAUTIFUL REFINISHED NORIS BAMBOO ROD-i dont know who made this rod or if it was even made in the USA-it is a 2 piece 7 foot 4 inch split bamboo rod that is marked" ORIGINAL NORIS 1948D" that has been beautifully refinished-it appears to be a very high quality rod-it shows rod wraps every 1/2" or so the entire length of the rod-it has 5 line guides including the agate lined tip guide-IT FEATURES A VERY UNUSUAL BUTT GUIDE-the guide folds down and lays almost flat against the rod when not in use-it is a red agate lined guide measuring 1-1/4" diameter-when the guide is folded outward for use it has a small locking block that swings into place and secures the guide-i was told this is a feature of some early leonard rods-the rod has a 15-1/2" cork handle which is undamaged but little soiled with 2 brass sliding reel foot ... morelocking rings-whoever refinished the rod did an absolutely beautiful job-this rod will be shipped in a nice reuseable metal rod tube but it is not marked and probably not original to the rod-A BEAUTIFUL ROD FOR SURE! SUPER NICE CONDITION J S SHARPE SPLICE JOINT BAMBOO SPEY ROD-first sharpe rod i have ever seen-this rod is made in aberdeen scotland and when assembled measures 11 ft 6"the decals say"the aberdeen" and"scottie impregnated"i think its from the 1950s era but not certain-the rod is split bamboo construction designed for salmon fishing-the unigue feature is the rod sections have splice joints which are scarfed together with twine-this supposedly make a much stronger connection between sections than standard ferrules do-the rod has 3 sections and a spare tip for total 4 peices-it has 13 line guides including the tip guide-the tip sections have red agate guides with 11 imtermediate snake guides wound with maroon/burgundy wrappings-ONE PROBLEM if the 1st red agate guide is missing on the butt section-the guide mount is still ... moreintact so a round guide could easily be resoldered in place-is has a really nice clean 23" cork handle-the metal butt cap is marked#5546 and j.s.sharpe ltd. aberdeen-the rod comes with its complete set of 5 splice protectors used when the rod is disassembled or in storage to protect the joint faces-the rod overall shows hardly any wear and no damage except for the missing round guide-its been very well taken care of and appears used very little-it comes in its original fitted canvas carrying case with cloth tag-the only thing missing is the twine that you wrap the joints with-i dont know if its a special type of twine or not-OVERALL A VERY UNUSUAL STYLE ROD-OBVIOUSLY TOP QUALITY CONSTRUCTION AND IN WELL TAKEN CARE OF ORIGINAL CONDITION! ARTSY VTG BAMBOO FLY ROD 9' 3/1 RLY 1900s AAAA+ CRAFTSMANSHIP 100+ WRAPS- SWEEET
Up for bids is very old(early 1900s) and unique 9' 3/1 bamboo fly rod. It is in excellent condition. The craftsmanship is impeccable as seen in early bamboo fly production. All original hardware. The hand made brass guides with red agate eyes are also indicative of its age(please see closeups to appreciate) It has 113 guide and intermediate wraps- plus delicate crossing wraps above the cork. The gold. Red and dark green colors are striking. The tip was replaced and is two inches shorter(34 3/4" than butt and midsection(36 3/4" There is no identifiable maker. Light varnish on the cork which makes for a decorative look- not that great for feel. Buyer can sand down if desired. I dry casted a#6 weight in the yard and was very nice. VTG MONTAGUE 'AMATEUR' BAMBOO FLY ROD 9' 3/2 TRUE LENGTHS ORIG CONDITION NICE 1
Up for bids is a Montague'Amateur' 9' 3/2 split bamboo fly rod. It has a signature" Bass Action" in gold ink. The traditional acetate label is 95% with the fish logo known as very unique and recognized in its time. It appears to have original finish as there are some minor flaws(slight chips in varnish. Porous/pocketed cork) The male ferrule on mid-sections missing wrap and appears newer than the apparent original female ferrule on same piece. Please view pics carefully and bid accordingly. It is a very nice rod with lengths right at 36 1/2" The mid-section is only 36' due to the added shorter ferrule. I have put a new sock and super vintage aluminum tube with it for protection. This is an ORVIS LIGHT SALMON BAMBOO FLY ROD that was built by George Reed and Calvin Skinner in Wes Jordan's fly shop in 1960. The rod is a 9 foot. Two piece, 9 weight and is in excellent condition. I bought it to go after Steel Head but never got the chance. I have used it instead to fish Mid-West Large Mouth Bass and spring Pike. This is an"Impregnated" rod, meaning it is water proofed without varnishes. You can put this fly rod away wet for the night without the worry of softening or ruining the finish. Originally this rod came with a"super-fine" style grip, Orvis loves to use these) they are tiny and well suited for 4 weight rods. I had it replaced with a proper sized big game"full-wells" style grip. This made the rod much more controllable and comfortable to both cast and fight fish with. This is a ... morevery powerfull fly rod that will lift a lot of heavy line and deliver it with accuracy. All pieces are full length and insanely straight. Along with the original aluminum tube, I am selling this rod with a FILSON FLY ROD and REEL CASE. Rugged and old school, it is dirty from years of use but no less for wear. Vintage Shakespeare Diamond Wrap 9.6 Bamboo Fly Rod Salmon
I have listed here for auction this very fine vintage Shakespeare bamboo 9 and a half foot fly rod. A diamond wrap, Salmon. The rod looks to be in great condition but has been used. The sections all measure 38 inches and has two identical end sections. Those two smaller end sections come in a small bag of their own and also a small aluminum tube which fits in the larger bag and all fits into a larger tube- see picture. All are in great condition. The end caps fit nicely and the larger cap has a rubber ring to seal out the moisture. I do fish, but I'm not a fly fisherman, so I can't give you any specifics, look at the pictures and hopefully you can see the condition of the rod.
