I do not have any further info of the exact pilot. This document set dates between 1941 and 1944. And contains information used for dive bomber pilot training. I t gives a nice idea into the depth of training that was used in the war. It contains reconnaissance photos; documents and reference points of targets in the UK; and 2 books of alphabetical indexes for identification and marking of various landmarks. WW2 French Normandy Folk Art Bomber Weather Vane - VERY NICE!
You are bidding on a FANTASTIC example of a French Folk Art Weathervane! Representing a B-17. B-25, or possibly an artistic"combination" of the two, this weather vane came from a farm in France. It was made to commemorate the Liberation of France, after seeing the hoards of US bombers flying overhead on a daily basis. Made of wood and steel. This weather vane is in VERY NICE original condition. It is a hand-built folk-art piece, made up of common items one would find on a farm of the time period. It is quite fragile from being in the elements for over 60 years, and there is some slight rust and corrosion due to age. Almost everything is assembled using nails, and some parts(such as the engine nacelles and tail) are a bit loose. These areas could be repaired if one wanted, but it displays nicely as it is. The farmer used an old bicycle ... morepedal as the base, but it has been temporarily removed for shipping purposes. It does still spin freely, and adds a nice touch. During World War II the airfield was known as Hammer Field and was used by the United States Army Air Forces' Fourth Air Force. Hammer Field was a training base specializing in night fighters and had three sub-bases and two gunnery ranges. Hammer Field also had an Army Air Forces regional hospital. The Army Air Force acquired this area for the Airways Detachment to set up a sub-base of Camp Pinedale for an extension of ordnance storage facilities and additional land for housing construction. A hospital, laundry, drainage facilities, cold storage, fire station, school building, rifle ranges, high tower shot gun range, motor pool areas, chemical warfare storage area, and a concrete underground ... moreigloo magazine arms storage. Auction is for an absolutely stunning historical artifact from World War Two. A 100% authentic SB2C Helldiver Torpedo Bomber throttle salvaged from a warplane used in the Pacific Theater of WW2. It is unspeakable the Speeds. Terror and glory this throttle and its plane experienced during the war. The plane was destined for the bottom of the sea, either through defeat or retirement, and despite its successful career and avoidance of destruction, the plane was stripped and readied for burial by sea. Just before which, the veteran whose estate I acquired, stripped the throttle from the plane and saved it from eternity at the bottom of the sea. It now sits ready to enter the most elite of collections. Throttle is in great condition considering use and action. Throttle stick does move back and forth. Levers and mechanics are functional.
