Book Published Vintage Fisherman Modified Creek Chub 100 to CCBC Fin Tail Shiner
WOW. How neat is this? Both the original and the modified creation are mimicing great CCBCo classics. Here a fisherman smartly shaved the sides and painted what originally was an early gill marked 200 wiggler and transformed it into a Creek Chub Fintail Shiner! Both are early CCBC products- he not only shaved the sides but also recut and skinnied up the lip. Amazing. Note with red paint, he added as an injured fish accent, he also simulated on each side the front"metal" fin which is on each fin tail shiner.Very nifty and fun. Another really fun piece which also remains in really nice condition and shows how creative early fisherman were. If he couldn't affort a fin tail, he made his own- nice! While it still retains its factory scale pattern on its back, I believe he wanted to change the color of the main bait to perch, given ... morehis angular brush stroke marks on each side. This exact lure is shown on page 214 in the Fisherman Modified Factory Lure Section. Authentic. Old fishermen modified factory lures are quite unique and a blast to collect. TRIO Book Published Vintage Fisherman Modified Creek Chub Pikie Minnow + More!!!
The two lures shown are BOTH in this lot and I have a little spinner I'm tossing into the deal. The two group shots show both the lures in this auction- they are mixed with other fisherman modified examples- only the"Pikie" and red/silver lure in these group shots are being offered here. If I"remember correctly. not certain) both lures were created by the same fisherman. I think through the modification, they were intended to represent Creek Chub Darter baits which, for those of you that fish with pre-1940 lures, are GREAT fish catchers(I guess though it's at least"possible" the fisherman was thinking of a Pflueger Surprise when he modified the Pikie) so I can't rule that out. Note the maker added belly"weights" near the head on both lures. On the Pikie. It's a surface weight attached by ... morea screw- on the Pikie, he also removed the front treble(which in my opinion was a good idea) since it's not necessary to have all 3 to catch fish. I'm not a Creek Chub expert but the Pikie hooks on it look like they"may be" bigger and heavier than the original factory hooks- again, just don't know for sure. but if they are replacements, he was trying to achieve a stouter, stronger lure, a great idea if you're going after bigger fish. Fun pieces which aptly show how creative early fisherman were. If he couldn't afford what he wanted. He just made it himself. To me such lures become very"personal" items. From which you can weave interesting thoughts on the object and the fisherman. The modified CCBC 700 Pikie Minnow lure is my favorite. There's a little bonus modified old spinner(not photographed) I'll toss into the deal. It's not much, so don't assign any"value" for it when you bid- just a little bonus you'll get. THIS COULD BE THE TIGER STRIPE FINISH. THIS PLASTIC VERSION CAME ON IN 1962-1964, AND RAN TILL CO. SOLD IN 1978, THE TIGER STRIP WAS ADDED IN 1967. THIS LURE IS STILL IN THE ORIGINAL PACKAGE.
