But overall its still pretty cool. It measures approximately 44.5" long x 2.5" wide. It is triangular in shape. The hinged white plastic top is broken off and missing as pictured above. This lot also comes with a red soft rod case. When laying flat it measures approximately 5.75" wide by 44" long. It has black laces to be able to tie it closed. This is a great fly rod with a sad history. After five years in the USMC when I got out I decided to learn to fly fish. I'd saved up $$. I went into a mid-Willamette Valley{Oregon} sporting goods shop that I didn't know was going out of business. I wanted a good all-around fly rod. my first one. This was in April 1975 and as a general rule back then. Service people were not held in good regard. What happened was the owner sold me stock that was improper for my use. He sold me this wonderful 7 weight rod that cost $75 at the time and a level 6 weight line. He also sold me heavy leaders. Etc. This was a good example of why the Curtis{sic? creek and other basic fly rod books were written. Needless to say it didn't work out. I struggled and finally admitted defeat and bought a bamboo outfit from a good dealer. I was in the stream. ... moreSo to speak. Anyway, my wonderful rod has basically been in the closet since 1976. Jim Green has yet to Invent the Fenwicks fiberglass ferrule and anodized metal is still the standard. I put an Orvis CFO III with a 5 Weight Forward line on the rod this morning and hit our lake ... morewith some new Hand Ties. Well it didn't take long to tell this was a rod one can Fish With. Very Forgiving, in that I was a bit clumsy missing my second cup of coffee I suspect. Yet I was able to throw a long tight loop that looked and felt like a guided mussel- Wham! an out cropping of rocks That Glitters from my Various offerings over the past 15 years. This one was just in front and the silence was Broken! Seven Pounds of Angry Black Bass was working his hardest to rip line or break glass, he didn't get his way. This rod'Danced' and gave when it was time to give and fought back when it was time to bring in line. This is one Heck of a Rod, 50 Plus Years ago Standards- Today's Standards. The 315 can surely Anchor anyone's Vintage Rod Collection or be the Go To Rod on any Fishing Trip. The 315 is in Excellent Plus Condition. Looking close to New if it weren't for a few scratches on the butt of the real seat. A brown neoprene fore and aft grip and a rubber butt cap with no gimbal. The rod blank is the classic dark brown Fenwick color and the wraps are brown over white trim. A nice classic Fenwick rod with the Eagle decal above the fore grip. It will be shipped in a protective rod tube with internal bubble wrap protection.
