Rare Special Order Fenwick Feralite FF837 "Woodstream" 2 Piece Fly Rod - VGC
For sale is a rare vintage Special Order Fenwick Feralite FF837"Woodstream" 2 Piece Fly Rod. Research into this rod indicates that it was a special order rod produced at some time prior to the sale of the company by the Clock brothers to Woodstream. I have found a 1971 Fenwick Special Order Catalog that lists the FF83 as a 4/5 Wt. very light action trout fly rod. However it lists the FF83 as a 8 ½’ rod. Not a 8’ 3” rod like this one. Furthermore this rod is rated. As per the specs on the rod blank, as AFTMA No. 7, not 4/5 Wt. Both pieces of the rod are equal in length so this isn’t an 8 ½” rod with a short tip. The rod has the Fenwick Eagle emblem but no serial number and a Woodstream sticker on the handle. The rod has a price of $64.99 printed on the handle. People I have spoken with agree with the theory that this was ... moreeither a special order left in inventory at the time of the sale to Woodstream in 1978 and subsequently sold as a Woodstream or there were FF83 rod blanks left over when the company was sold and this rod was finished using one of those rod blanks and sold as a Woodstream. Whatever its history there are not many of these rods about which makes it rare or. At least, hard to find. It is a beautiful rod. In near mint condition, that could be fished or put in a collection. The reel hood rings show no sign of a reel being attached. The guides and wraps are all original and in perfect condition. In my opinion, the rod looks like it has never been used.

Original condition and is free of cracks, chips, damage to cork, wraps or guides. The only signs of use are a light surface rub to paint on bottom of reel seat, right above the end. Everything else looks like new. Rod tube is designed for a 9 1/2' rod. The rod sock is Fenwick but it just a bit big and was probably for a 9' spin rod. Both tube and sock work well in protecting the rod. If one wanted to travel with the rod I would recommend a soft filler. Serial number is L74182. This is a 5 piece fiberglass Fenwick Woodsman fly rod that is 8.5 feet long for 5 or 6 weight line. Each section is 22 inches long. This showed up in the back of my tackle closet and has been there for decades. Many of us really like the action of fiberglass compared to the new materials but unfortunately fiberglass is not seen as special compared to all of the space age stuff. No tube comes with rod.

6' Fenwick XMC Hotstik E-Glass Model H729C. 15-50 lb Line. Auction is for a nice looking 6' Fenwick Hotstik. Made with their E-Glass technology. Model is H729C, and takes 15-50 lb line. Features 7 heavy duty guides. Has a rubber butt piece attached to foam handles still in good shape. Fenwick reel seat uses metal clamps. Overall rod is clean and straight, has some very faint rash near the reverse side of a couple guides. Otherwise rod still shiny from outer coating. Guides all tightly wrapped, had some very minor pitting on a couple but was able to clean up easily so the remnants hardly show. Overall in very good or excellent condition. Custom 7' Fenwick Fiberglass Saltwater Spinning Rod built 1979
This is a 7' custom built Fenwick Fiberglass saltwater spinning rod I built in 1979. It was used only one season on the Puget Sound before going into storage. The rod is in excellent shape with no nicks on the blank. All wraps are sound and all guides in good shape with no corrosion. The grip is foam and slightly soiled from use. The reel seat is sound with no corrosion. Will ship First Class mail in tube.
