I have owned this custom. Hand made split bamboo deep sea fishing rod for over 30 years and I have displayed several fine old reels on it while I waited for the perfect reel. Earlier this year I found this Fin Nor Regal Model 20 new in a box and I knew it was exactly the right reel to match with the rod. Look at the photos and you decide. I have seen a few of these early Fin Nor Regals and there are a lot of later ones. This is the only one I have seen that is new. Silver and in the box with the designation"Model 20. Murray Bros 30 LB Fishing Rod w/ Tycoon Fin-Nor Miami Guides & AFTCO UniButt
This is a vintage Murray Bros Big Game Fishing Rod. It is used. In very good condition, and rated for 30 LB class. It comes with 5 vintage Tycoon Fin-Nor Miami Roller Guides. The first tycoon fin-nor guide has a split in separation on the first guide foot. It is attached to the rod fine, but split on the plastic just before the roller(see photo) The other roller guides are fine, but have some rash. The roller top is an AFTCO gold roller tip. There is saltwater rash on this tip also. The foregrip is a fuzzy material that appears to be attached to cork. This fuzzy foregrip is in good condition with the exception of a couple very small spots missing fuzzy material and you can see the cork underneath. This is very minor and barely noticeable. The butt is an AFTCO Aluminum UniButt with gimble. I can't get the unibutt apart from rod and don't ... morewant to force it. Probably needs some lubing to get it separated. The unibutt ring unscrews and tightens with no problems. The flexcoat on the rod is in good condition, and was personalized to a"Bill Aldrich" which is inscribed in gold lettering on the blank. GORGEOUS REEL looks new with some VERY VERY minor surface marks.see pictures. So beautiful it looks like jewelry. One owner purchased new in October 1982 from Orvis with receipt included as well as box. Guarantee, directions, reel case and EVERYTHING it came with. This is a Fin-Nor#3 ~"Anti Reverse" model. This reel was purchased in New York City in the 70's. It has never been mounted. Fished or wet. It has been in storage until now. There is no box. The original vinyl pouch/case is provided and it is imprinted"Tycoon-Fin-Nor"~"Miami. Nice Fin-Nor Big Game Trolling Reel 4A-820
I understand that the fin-nor reels are the Rolls Royce's of all fishing reels. I purchased this one at an estate sale. Sorry to say I don't know much about this type of reel. The previous owner(name engraved on side plate) said it was in great working condition. I checked it over and as far as I can tell everything seems to work nicely. Reel is nice and clean with only some minor scratches. The only identifying numbers I could find were"4A-820" The fin-nor logo and patent numbers are on side plate. 2 Custom Stand-Up Tycoon Fin Nor Roller Guide Big Game Fishing Rod with butt
Custom rods with tycoon fin nor roller guides and Aftco butts. Rod 62 inches. Butt 20 inches. It is my understanding that my fiancé used only the best Lamiglas blanks for his rods and the best roller guides. He double wrapped his rods and used only the best epoxy coating. These are classy rods and would look wonderful with a Penn reel. Just a guess but I have sold a lot of large Penn reels and this would accommodate a 50 or 80 or more nicely. All of the tackle I am selling is from my late fiance’s estate. He was a lifetime angler who fished waters all over the world. After retirement. He owned a light tackle and fly fishing charter business in New York. He loved his gear and was meticulous with everything he owned. Custom Fred Heide Big Game Rod Fin Nor Roller Guides West Palm Beach Florida
Here is a nice vintage custom built rod by renounced rod builder Fred Heide of West Palm Beach Florida. Although Mr. Heide has passed and the Co. Still builds superior fishing rods I believe this rod is of the Fred Heide era. It features Fin Nor Roller guides and a 2 PC aluminum gimbal butt(the bottom butt piece is stuck at this time.I applied oil so it should come loose) In the past I did have a guide repl and all guides re- wrapped and the blue marble at the grip was added by my rod builder. I actually fished a few times with this rod in the past. It measures 6'6" and is 30-50lb class to my guestimation. ROD IS USED BUT IN GREAT CONDITION SO PLEASE SEE PICTURES. FOR CONDITION.
