wi_finders USED in working condition. Slight Surface rust. Needs oiling to free locking lever. Roach fishing line reel patent applied for in 1929 and granted in 1931. The only marking on reel is Pat. No. 1.827,488. Reel has a locking lever to stop the line from moving. Made to use on long bamboo or wood rod. Very scarce and unusual reel. The following article From the June 2011 Newsletter http:www.eclecticangler.com/ A Simple Patented Fishing Reel This month's story begins with US Patent# 1.827,488 granted to Burtus Ugien Roach of Bronson, MI on Oct. 13, 1931. This was not Mr. Roach's first patent though. In 1919 he received US Patent#1,314,608 for a folding clothes retainer; 9 years after its original filing in 1910. these were the only 2 patents that I turned up for Mr. Roach. As for the reel. It is a rather simple affair. The patent ... moreitself is for a"novel means for locking the reel against rotary movement when the desired length of line has been unreeled. A novel feature of the foot is that it has a slot at each end of the bend. These slots engage a sliding pin to lock the spool in place. This is Mr. Roach's patented idea. 3 Vtg. Mitchell fishing line boxes, two spools w/line 1 mono, 1 fly line, 1960
3 vintage large Mitchell fishing line boxes and 2 spools: One spool appears to have mono-filament( and the second is a floating fly line. These belonged to my grandfather and date to his retirement in 1960. These were bought at Sears and one has a date of 11/60. I'm pretty sure he bought all three at the same time or near the same time because he ramped up his fishing time allotment when he retired in 1960 and bought a lot of tackle. The undated boxes might or might not predate 1960. I have not taken the line off the reels but it appears to be sound. The plastic boxes have threaded screw-on lids and are dusty and one is grubby. But I see no cracks or structural damage. Boxes are 2 1/2" across and 1 3/4" high. I don't fish but will answer questions as best I can. Tracking and delivery confirmation included. Posted with
