Vintage HARDY No.2 LRH Spinning Split Cane Fishing Rod- E76492/ 1951 2pc 9' 6" Ref: DU I am offering for auction a very nice two section HARDY"No. 2 LRH Spinning" Rod. The serial number(E76492) stamped on the butt dates it to 1951. The rod when assembled measures 9ft 6" long. With both sections pretty much equal in length. The butt section is clearly signed"The No. 2 L.R.H. Spinning" and carries the usual Palakona Regd Trade Mark. With the Prince Of Wales Feathers and the Royal Warrant"By Appointment" Crest on the alloy capping and reel seat. Overall the rod is in good to excellent condition as follows: All guides look to be original and in excellent condition. With no damage or corrosion. Apart from No 1 butt guide, all are agate lined, which no chips or cracks to the linings. Apart from No 2 butt ... moreguide. Which has been rewhipped(see photo) all other guide and intermediate whippings appear to be original. Whilst they have darkened with age and slightly dry. Plus one or two intermediate windings are incomplete, overall condition of the whipping is very good. The varnish is generally in good condition. But as is to be expected, there are a few age-related blemishes to the finish and some crazing to the last few inches of the tip section. The cork handle is in very good condition. With just an age-related patina and one or two superficial nicks and blemishes; cerainly no major damage. The alloy reel seat is in excellent condition, with no evidence of wear, in fact just it looks almost unused. It has a nickel/bronzed push button joint. The male ferrule is in excellent condition. With the spring loaded button in good working condition. There are a few scratches around the button hole of the female ferrule, but the sections join and separate nicely. With a distinctive"pop. Used Sunbeam 8/9 single action fly reel made by Hardy Brothers of England. Reel was purchased in 1980. The fly reel is in excellent condition. Both mechanically and cosmetically. Surface finish has very little dulling, a few small scuffs etc. typical for a used reel of this vintage but nothing detrimental to the usefulness of the reel and no roughness on the spool rims. The reel is mechanically sound, tight and in perfect working condition. No spool or handle wobble. The reel body has an agate line guide and spacer plug in perfect condition. Included on the reel is approximately 100 yards of backing, and approx. 50 yards of running line that was used with a shooting head. Shooting head not included. Very Rare Hardy Monogram 3” Fly Reel This is a very rare Hardy Monogram fly reel. This Hardy reel has a silver colored solid(non-ported) spool held to the spindle with a brass screw. A darker grey colored frame, an enclosed agate line guard, Hardy's traditional black ebonite handle, an unribbed brass reel seat and an adjustable click and pawl overrun system. The spool is 3” in diameter. The brass reel seat is stamped with Pat. No. 272409. The inside of the frame is stamped with the initials"JS" The reel comes with a non-original corduroy pouch. Our best guess for capacity is approximately 100 yards 20 pound multifilament nylon backing with a WF5F fly line. The back of the frame bears three inscriptions: Made by Hardy Bros. England. Size 3" Ambercrombie and Fitch Co. New York HB. Australia and New Zealand, Reg’d Trade Mark ... moreThe inside of the reel is almost perfectly clean. With no rust or corrosion anywhere. The reel is in excellent mechanical condition. It has been caringly and lightly fished. It is set up for right hand wind. And cannot be converted to left hand wind. While the brass screw holding the spool to the reel clearly has been removed a few times, it still most securely holds the spool to the frame and is in good condition. T he front of the spool has some very minor discoloration on its surface. The frame has some slight wear on the edges.
