Vintage Hardy Bros. Fly Reel - The Princess - NO RESERVE
A nice old reel for restoration. Parts or display. It's all here, but it has seen better days! Check out the photos for the details. There are plenty of scratches and nicks from years of use. You can also see an unfortunate"operation identification" engraving on the face. Ouch. The drag does not work. The picture shows the mechanism, and the individual parts move nicely, but the drag does not engage the spool at all. Don't forget the spool! It installs nicely and doesn't have any major damage. The outside face has scratching, but no big diggers like the reel. Overall, the outside diameter of the reel is 3 1/2" Let me know if you have any questions. If you are unhappy with the reel, you may return it for a refund of the purchase price. I do ask that you pay for the postage. Thanks for looking!

Page 228 in his book" Fishing Tackle– A Collectors Guide" This wide spool fly reel from Hardy was never cataloged, and had a very short post-war production run. An alloy reel with perforated spool flange on the handle side, telephone style spool latch and ribbed brass foot, with a 3 5/8" diameter and 1 1/4" wide spool. Stamped on the tail plate"Made by Hardy Bros LTD– England" and"Fly Reel– 3 3/4" though the reel measures to just 3 5/8" The tail plate rim features a knurled brass tension screw, with a dual click pawl system that can be set for either right or left hand wind. The initials"J.S. ... moreare stamped inside the drum housing, for reel builder James Smith, who built reels between 1908 and 1960. Condition is VG+ to Ex- with tightly fitting spool having no wobble, crisp sounding check/click, and very light wear with no pitting usually associated with alloy reels. Please view all the photos. Un-named. Vintage Japanned Lure Case, 9 1/4" x 4 5/8" x 4 3/4" I am certain that this is an example of the Hardy"Carry All" Case. Introduced in 1914 and discontinued in 1937. Happy to offer a full money back guarantee of authenticity) A very expensive item in its day at £1-17-6. reproduced from the 1934 Hardy's Anglers' Guide) when the average wage for a 50 hour week was around £3-10-0. To find one complete with the four original cases is extremely rare. The original oval nickel silver Hardy maker's label is missing. The lockable hasp is present and 100% intact. Fitted with a large drawer. Three trays and four small cases to hold lures, traces, hooks, leads, swivels etc. The slide out drawer has 4 compartments(including 2 lift out dividers) Above there are three layers of lift out drawers to ... moreone side(one lift out drawer has lid covers and two removable dividers) On the other side there are four compartments containing the original japanned lift out boxes. The case is in good sound condition. Rust is entirely superficial. Confined to the exterior and has not penetrated. Flaking to the cream interior japanning is in keeping with its age and with the fact that Hardy never quite perfected the technique. I have made no attempt to clean. Polish or improve this item. The Hardy label could be replaced, the rust removed, the black and cream japanning could be reapplied. Restore it to new or enjoy it as it is, it's entirely up to you.
