Offered is a rare set of Laurel& Hardy dolls.circa early 1980s. These originally came from a TV studio in Hollywood as they were used in a television show. The heads. Hands and feet are porcelain; the bodies seem to be made of some kind of fabric/stuffing. The clothes are original and depict their standard attire. They both have wonderfully detailed faces! Laurel is in very good condition but poor Hardy apparently had a mishap at some point. His head has a small hole in the back and is glued together in spots as well as his hat. His right foot has also been glued on. There also appears to be some old tape on his head but I'm leaving it. All this can be repaired if one cares to do so. But when he is sitting on a shelf or chair they are not noticeable as all of the repairs are in the back. Still.the set is being sold AS IS.please view ... moreall photos. The Mexican petunia is a tender evergreen perennial that forms colonies of stemmy stalks standing 3 ft(0.9 m) in height and of indeterminate width. The strong semi-woody stalks are distinctly vertical in aspect and hold attractive dark green. Leaves oppositely at the nodes. The lance-shaped leaves are to 6-12 in(15.2-30.5 cm) in length and 1/2-3/4 in(1.3-1.9 cm) wide. When grown under hot sunny conditions the foliage assumes a metallic bluish cast that creates the perfect backdrop for the the scores of vibrant blue flowers that appear with the onslaught of hot summer weather. Here's a weird one. So unusual it the genus has its own family. The small greenish flowers curiouslly appear on midribs of the leaves. This is know as epiphylly, and occurs due to the flower stem and leaf petiole being naturally fused together. There are only a few species in the genus, all in Asia, this one known from China. There are two forms in cultivation, one is referred to as the"narrow leaf form" and the other is the"wide leaf form" This is the narrow leaf form, and is a female, forming purplish black fruits will follow, appearing as if glued into place on the leaves. Army & Navy London Vintage Alloy Salmon Reel J W Young Hardy Perfect Type Fly JW
This is a vintage salmon fly reel made by J W Young for the Army& Navy Cooperative Society Ltd. Of Victoria Street, London. I believe this reel would have been made in the late 1920's or early 1930's. The reel weighs 13.5 ounces, and is 4.25 inches in diameter and 2 inches wide across the frame. The spool itself is about 1 5/16 inch inside width. The brass foot is 3 1/8 inches long, and has not been altered. As to condition, the pictures tell the story. The reel retains most of its original leaded alloy finish. The gear teeth and pawls are very sharp and show very little signs of use. The drag adjustment knob works smoothly. The spindle is in pristine condition and there is absolutely no spindle play or bearing slop. The spool turns very smoothly. The white handle is in very fine condition and spins freely. The spool retaining ... morescrew is in excellent condition. There are no dings or rash. There is some finish loss, mainly on the rim, and some very light scratches in the finish, all of which can be seen in the pictures. There is some residue inside the spool from backing and line, and perhaps some light corrosion under the finish on the arbor(not sure if this is corrosion or gunk, and didn't try to clean it to find out) and these too can be seen in the pictures. The reel is very tight and was not used much at all. Mechanically, the reel works perfectly. These J W Young made reels are getting to be quite hard to find, especially in this kind of condition, and this larger salmon size size is very rare indeed. This reel represents the"holy grail" for a J W Young reel collector, and is the kind of reel that could become the cornerstone of a good collection. I believe that this reel was acquired by my father or grandfather when new(they fished for salmon every summer in Scotland in the mid-1930's) and then not used much if at all. The reel has been unused and in storage for at least the last 40 years, and probably since before WW2. I have way too many fly reels that I don't use, and so I
