It's my pleasure to offer at auction a Very Nice and Quite Scarce 1916-1918 HEDDON NO.10 4-1/2 FT. 2/2 SPLIT BAMBOO BAIT CASTING ROD WITH FULL AGATE GUIDES, EXTRA TIP SECTION, CLOTH BAG& ALUMINUM TUBE. These early Heddon bait rods in their original configurations(with extra tip sections) are becoming extremely hard to find. The No.10 was a charter member of Heddon's original 1909 rod lineup and was first introduced as the"Dowagiac $10.00 Rod" It would always be one of their highest-grade models and would sell continuously through 1932. Because this example is equipped with full agate guides and tip tops(first equipped so in 1916) and comes complete with the extra tip section(last supplied with these models in 1918) we know it was only built from 1916 to 1918. Rodshaft carries an almost complete"Dowagiac" bass ... moredecal, which is also correct for the year. Reel seat is stamped with the early"Heddon's Dowagiac Pat. Dec.1,1908" rod& reel logo. I've added a photo of the original listing from Heddon's 1916 catalog. Built from some of the nicest high-grade Calcutta cane and comes equipped with full agate guides& tip tops, highest-grade German Silver ferrules, nickel-silver buttcap and winding check, Heddon's patented locking-band reel seat and solid cork grip& foregrip made of delicate 1/8" cork rings. The No.10 was always about heavy cosmetics, with highly ornamented& knurled hardware and very closely wound in three colors of silk. This example has no less than 161 individual wraps. Rod is in solid Fine+ condition for these early models, showing moderate overall wear and beautifully rewrapped entirely to original. Virtually all wear is confined to the reel seat area. Bamboo is perfect, with no splits, cracks or delamination whatsoever. All sections are the correct length and are reasonably straight. Varnish and wraps are pristine. All guides, tip tops, ferrules, winding check and buttcap are in good condition. The cork grip and foregrip remain
