I bought this rod from a gentleman about 10 years ago. He said he always bought 2 of everything. So this one never was used. I am not an expert, but I am guessing it is from the late sixties. It is in allmost perfect condition. The sleeve and rod tube are in very good condition. The photos accurately portray it. I do no t think the rod was e ver used. But there is a small scuff in the gold portion at the front of the ha ndle. See the sixth picture. This might be a storage scuff. This rod would be perfect for displa ying your vintage muskie ree l. ANTIQUE 5-1/2' HEDDON NO. 15 SPLIT BAMBOO CASTING ROD, EXCELLENT CONDITION
This no-reserve auction features an antique. Nearly 100 year old, five-and-a-half-foot long Heddon No. 15 split bamboo casting rod. Better yet, this rare and early high-grade No. 15 wasn't used much and is in all original, excellent condition. Indeed, the cork grips are free of chips and gouges and have never been sanded or tampered with. The hand made German silver reel seat is also in excellent, like new condition, as are the ferrules, winding check, and butt cap—all of which are highly ornamented with fancy knurling. The female ferrule is also the highly desirable one with alternating mirror and matt bands, and was fitted at the factory with the decorative hexagonal hand welt. Ferrules mate perfectly. The guides are all nickel-silver-framed genuine red agates. They're also all present and are in excellent shape. Being the highest ... moregrade casting rod Heddon made for some time, it was wrapped in four colors of silk. And with the exception of four or five of the narrow intermediate wraps(including two that are coming unwound near the foregrip) they're all present in great original shape. This fantastic specimen also sports its factory-original varnish—although some of it has crazed because of its great age(a very common occurrence on these old rods)and it is quite evident from looking at Dowagiac bass decal and the Calcutta cane rod segments that it has never been over-coated with varnish in the past, making it ultra rare. The cane segments have also never been shortened and are entirely free of cracks. Scrapes, gouges, and delamination. Between each of the guide feet wraps there are three decorative narrow trim wraps(which only the high-grade No. 15 had) And the rod has a profusion of closely-spaced intermediate silk wraps throughout its length. Approximately 75% of the Dowagiac bass decal remains intact, and the rod is also accompanied by its original leatherette tube and khaki bag, both of which are in amazingly good condition. Heddon Stanley stamped on prop blades vintage fishing lure in a brilliant red to a tan belly not a common color. Has some paint chipping on the very top of the head. Between the eyes and it continues back towards the hook. The eyes are in excellent shape as well as the hook which has a nice patina. With a little tlc this one could be mint. HEDDON BAMBOO FLY ROD MODEL#13. LUCKY ANGLER” This is a 9’ Heddon#13“Lucky Angler” with the Pyralin reel seat and the half-Wells grip. According to Michael Sinclair’s excellent book on Heddon rods. This model was made only for three years from 1936 through 1938(p.130) Rod has orange silk wraps tipped black. NS ferrules with rolled welt, agantine stripper, and blued steel snakes. Ferrules are 18/64” and 11/64” with tips 5/64” below the tip-top wraps. Marked on butt shaft. Heddon” and“13” S ections are 36 5/8” but the butt is 1/8” short from re-setting the female ferrule. Bag and tube don’t look original to me. CONDITION The cane appears all original. Finish is original and good with some evidence of use but NO HEDDON VARNISH MELT. The wrap on the butt ferrule has been replaced with correct orange silk. The cork has been cleaned with no ridging ... moreand protected with a plastic sleeve. There is a little fishing set in each tip. All in all. This is a nice rod in very good condition for a pre-war piece. Heddon 13s are not often seen. At least in this neck of the woods. Three-piece 9’ rod with NS ferrules. Cork grip, and Heddon composite reelseat. Fiberglass is colored to resemble cane. Perfection stripper. Blued steel snakes, gold wraps tipped brown. Comes with bag and tube. Probably not original. CONDITION This rod is in excellent condition. All sections exactly 36 3/8” Finish on the shafts and ferrules is clean and bright. Reelseat is excellent(see photos) Cork has been cleaned(no ridging) and protected with plastic sleeve. CASTING Rod is marked for a“B or C” which doesn’t make much sense to me. This lure is in a lot better shape then the photos show that white dull film on the lure is a waxy substance that comes right off and reviles a nice shine little goldish body. Rare vintage Heddon Split Bamboo kids child youth fishing pole 34" needs eyelet
Heddon 34" split bamboo fishing pole. I am assuming due to the size this is a kids pole. I have not found another one online anywhere this size. Fishing pole is in good cosmetic condition. Varnish is good for age. One spot just below Heddon badge(see pic) looks like finish had a bubble. This pole has one eyelet completely missing(see pic) This would be a great pole to restore. The soft case is tied at the bottom& is a bit tattered but holds the pole just the same. It has a jeweled eyelet at the end. This pole was originally made with only 2 eyelets, the tip& the middle. Now only has one. The rod appears to be missing a trigger/fingerhold that is part of the top ring for holding the reel on. If there are any other defects then I am not aware of them.
