Garcia Mitchell 300 reel. 70s era. Serial#A405722. The serial number is a bit of a puzzle. According to the system of dating, serial numbers that start with A were made in 1971, however Garcia didn't buy Mitchell until 1974. What is certain is that Garcia and Mitchell separated in 1980, so this reel is positively from the 70s. Condition is well-loved and much-used in its time. Sales only within the continental USA. Made in France: Serial Number A487895– Made in 1971. This reel does not show signs of its actual age(43 years) no signs of abuse. No dents, no cracks, nothing, and a smooth bail. The drag, bail, anti-reverse is in proper working order. The reel works in a smooth and snappy fashion, with no signs of any problems. Currently, the reel has 8 lb. test line on it and the extra spool is empty. The extra spool is a deep spool for up to 190 yards of 30 lb. test line but there is a blue spacer/filler for lighter line. Hello This is a vintage Wright/McGill Eagle Claw Denco two piece rod. MN MB-865M. This rod is used but in great condition. It stands 6 1/2 feet with five guides. The rod itself is fiberglass and has a cork handle. The cork is in good shape. The label on the pole this clearly visible. The rod also comes with a Garcia Mitchell 300 C spinning reel. Mitchell Garcia Spinning Fishing Reel 300 4th Version Sn289250 First Full Bail
Vintage working 1950 4th version of 300 model. Nice movement. Comes with extra spool and a leather case. From a Goldsmiths' home. It was well maintained. Pre 1953 as far as I know. The following excerpt from the Mitchell website may be interesting; Serial Number(SN) B29598 is a good example of their first experiment with a full bail. Made in c1950 during the 3rd versions. It was sent out as a Pilot or test model to only a few choice distributors and not sold to the public. The reason was that during this time, Hardy held the full-bail patent. It has all the components of a 3rd version except for the rotating head. Aside from the part about the rotating head. It is the closest disription I have found to this reel. Vintage Garcia Mitchell 300 Spinning Reel Made in France RUNS GREAT! This reel is in absolutely amazing used condition and is ready to take fishing right now! Well. Okay, you might want to put some line on it first… Cosmetically the finish is in wonderful used condition. There is a small rub on the underside of the gear housing(please see the picture) But it looks more like it spent its life in someone’s tackle box rather than out on the water. I think it may have had line on it at one time, but then sat around since the rub is where it would have rested on a shelf, so it may never have even gotten as far as the tackle box! So it’s not new because of the rub and one or two chips where you’d expect them, but it’s a LOT better than average and is a great example of this model. The chrome is nice and bright too. It might like a quick wipe with ... morea soft cloth, but that’s about it. Mechanically. The gears feel nice and smooth; the drag system also works well and smoothly, the anti-reverse system and click engages correctly, and the bail cocks and trips well and with authority. In running the serial number through the Mitchell reel dating sight I end up anywhere between the late‘50s to the mid‘60s. The serial is very lightly stamped and if you can’t quite make it out in the photo. It’s 421483. There is also a leading 6 at right angles to it. I’ve seen a leading number a lot of times on Mitchell reels, but don’t know what it’s for. Will someone out there please clue me in? For some reason the camera flash shifted the color a little. So I’ve included a shot without it. I had to use the flash, though, to show some of the details. In any event. This reel runs as well as it ever did and I wouldn’t hesitate to have it in my collection– or in my hand when I hook a big bass! So how can you go wrong with this starting price? No dents, no cracks, nothing, and a smooth bail, especially a smooth bail and the spools are smooth. The drag, bail, anti-reverse is in proper working order. The reel works in a smooth and snappy fashion, with no signs of any problems. The spool on the reel is a large spindle shallow spool for light line.
