ORVIS BATTENKILL 7 1/2 FOOT 2/2 BAMBOO FLY ROD IN EXCELLENT CONDITION ROD
This is an Orvis Battenkill 2/2 4 ounce bamboo fly rod. This rod was rarely ever fished. It is in absolute excellent condition. All sections are straight and original length. The ferrules are tight and wraps are perfect. I contaced Orvis and they conformed it was built by Ron White in 1990 SERIAL NUMBER 87802. It comes with a soft case and a hard tube case. I also have some Sage rods and some gorgeous reels up for auction too. Take a look!

Vintage Orvis Equinox Bamboo Fly Rod
This is an 8'0" 2 piece rod. The rod was originally purchased by a life-long angler and sportsman and I recently inherited it. From reading the history of this model, the blank came from Scotland(it says'Scotlaqnd' on the end cap) and was finished in Vermont. The rod is in excellent overall shape-the guides are free of any corrosion and the wraps look great! The only wear that I see is on the locking ring for the reel. Which can be seen in the pictures. Otherwise it looks like the rod wasn't fished very much. I have lawn cast it with a 7 weight and it loaded nicely. I am sure it could handle an 8 weight line as well. Orvis Silver Label TL 9' 8 wt 2-piece Mid-Flex Fly Rod w/ Safe Passage Case!
For your consideration- an Orvis 9-foot 8-weight Mid-Flex Fly Rod with Composite Fighting Butt and an Orvis Safe Passage Case. My father bought this fly rod in North Carolina in the late 90's. And used it on exactly 5 weekend trips looking for redfish until they relocated to Kansas City 1 year later. The rod has spent the entirety of the interval since inside the case within a closet in their smoke-free. Pet-free home. The cork is beautifully clean, the beautiful charcoal-colored blank is still bright and clean, and the guides are smooth and rust-free. The reel seat shows nearly no wear, and the threads are smooth and clean. There are a couple of small details to mention regarding the condition- and both are pictured above. There is a small chip in the cork by the reel seat. It's about the size of half of a tic-tac. And would be easily ... morefilled with cork dust and glue. There is also a scuff in the blank that looks to go through the layer of epoxy. I was told by a couple of guys that this is also easily repairable with a little fly epoxy, and that it would not affect performance. This is a used rod, and there are other signs of light use completely consistent with normal wear. I never attempted repair on any of these issues, though I read that automotive plastic polish can remove any scratches or surface marks on a blank. I don't want to belabor the condition issues- it's still in great shape with many many years of use left. Knowing my father, I know that fly fishing attracts an extremely meticulous, detail-oriented person, generally speaking, and I want to be sure you get exactly what I am describing. The Orvis Safe Passage Case is pictured. As well, and will hold the rod when rigged up with reel and line for use at a moment's notice. There is slight fading consistent with its age, but the zipper works smoothly and perfectly, the interior pockets are tight and clean, and there are no gouges, rips, tears, snags, or mechanical problems of any sort. I've never fly-fished in my life(all the tasty catfish are at the bottom) But i'll try my best to answer any questions. Specific picture requests are welcome. From hours of research and a quick inspection. All I've discovered is that this is an Orvis Impregnated"Special" without a serial number. It's slightly over 7' due to the handle being replaced, and also has one unoriginal guide. The ferrule appears to fit snug, but as I said, I'm no expert. A very interesting rod. Bought new at an Orvis outlet store two years ago, I loved the rod but hated the grip and reel seat. So I had it re-handled by famous bamboo rod maker Marc Aroner, who turned the highly flamed English Sycamore spacer, as well as machining the screw lock parts and end cap and extension handle. The rod tube is a USA custom made Landmark Cordura tube with dividers. The rod is a powerful 7 weight, and handles shooting heads to 300 grains with no problem. It's a great rod, I'm just totally smitten with two hand rods these days.
