Reel is 3 3/16 inches in diameter by 1 1/16 inches wide. Cast of a newly developed magnesium alloy the reel is extremely light weighing a mere 2.2 ounches- more than 30% lighter than comparible sized Hardy reels using traditional cast aluminum alloys. I bought them about 24 months ago and have used them no more than 10 or 12 times and so the felt is in very good condition. As shown in the pictures. There are no cuts, damaging scuffs or other noticeable damage other than slight notice of use in a stream. These boots run pretty true to size. I wear a size 10 in a street shoe and find these fit fine even with the extra pair of socks I wear plus my wader foot. Up for bid is one Vintage C. F. ORVIS Single Action Fly Reel. Patented May 12th, 1874, with wood box. This reel is missing the crank handle and handle nut. It has a full time clicker. On the back there is an engraved brass plate with"C. F. ORVIS, MAKER, MANCHESTER, VT. PATENTED MAY 12th, 1874" From the Internet: In 1874 Orvis received a patent on a new design in fly reels. Patent Number 150.883 is now regarded as a milestone in American fishing tackle history. The 1874 reel was in some ways a major break with previous reel design. Its spool was narrow, quite unlike most fly reels then in use. The perforations on the side plates, which lightened the reel considerably, permitted air circulation through the line when it was on the spool. As the patent claimed, A current of air is continually forcing itself through the wound-up line, ... moreand all mildew and rot thereby avoided, as under these circumstances the line soon becomes thoroughly dried. Actually. Neither the narrow spool nor the line ventilation were new What was new was mounting the narrow spool upright in the traditional reel position, as modern fly reels are mounted. This vest has been stored in the closet for a few years. I got it for my wife but she never really needed to use it. It's in really great shape with no tears or stains. The fabric seems almost new. I did have a couple of zingers attached on the two top chest pockets so there are a couple of perforations in the flaps from the pins. Other than that it is as new. All zippers work perfectly. It has a chest velcro flap pocket. Two large zippered pockets and three mesh tippet pockets on each side of the front of the vest.
