It free spools very well and will cast a mackerel or other larger baits away to the bite area. The conversion Ratios are 5:1 in high gear. And 2.3: 1 in low gear. PENN INTERNATIONAL 12 Saltwater Fishing Reel in really nice shape with just a little corrosion on the center of the spool and some very minor boat rash. The typical top bar has either been replaced with the anodized black aluminum one or possibly this is the way it came. Also the gold anodized aluminum handle I think might be unique? I can't be sure. But I am thinking that this might have been a prototype of the PENN 12? I replaced the chrome rod clamp with a modern plastic/graphite one. For all of you Penn collectors, the serial number on this is H781298. Maybe someone out there can tell me if this is indeed one of the prototypes for this model? Everything works fine and I had this one professionally serviced a couple years ago. Fished once since then but rinsed well, sprayed with wd-40 and drags backed off just after.
