It truly has an amazing history! I purchased this kit in the early 1980s to convert one of my Penn Senator 113H 4/0 reels to a larger width for more line capacity. I have literally captured and released hundreds(not counting jumped fish) of tarpon on it! I won the Florida Suncoast Tarpon Roundup Landlubber Division two years in a row(1989 and 1990) As well as multiple Release Divisions, Weekly and overall Tournament Awards before going away to college and leaving most of my fishing gear at my parents’ house. It was really fun to grow up in Tampa Bay fishing as a kid! So my parents finally got me to take my old equipment back with me. Including this kit. There are some real gems! In the last tournament I fished back home(summer of 1990) I caught a 145 lb. tarpon off the Sunshine Skyway Bridge and won some major awards. Within 15 minutes I had the tarpon whipped and straight down from the bridge. Then my reel jammed(first time ever! and it took me the next 45 minutes to reel in the beaten fish. It’s been 25 years. But I recall thinking the problem was the Newell spool. But I also remember having to replace some of the gears in the actual 4/0 reel. Which had nothing to do with the spool and kit. To make sure. I took removed the line and rolled the spool on a flat table and it didn’t wobble at all. I then took one of my old Penn 4/0 and converted it with the entire Newell kit. And everything was smooth. So as I remember. It was indeed the reel and not this kit. This is the largest conversion kit that Newell designed for a Penn 4/0 reel. It converts the original narrow frame to 3 1/8" wide.
