SAGE SPL 7'4" 4wt 3pc fly fishing rod RARE factory-built 474-3 Graphite IV SPL; maple reel seat Please use your mouse's cursor to enlarge all photos to see the wonderful condition of this rare bird of a fly rod. An out-of-production honey of a rod that should never have been discontinued. I believe this model SPL is the VERY BEST Small Creek rod Sage has ever made. Unless you would prefer to fish a 2wt. It of course has a tip that will protect the lightest of tippet yet. As a 4wt, has a nice butt section offering great control. It really feels almost a 3.5wt, as the SPL line generally had the reputation of being a tad lighter than their rating. If you like to fish a 3wt line don't be afraid to line it up on this rod- this rod will easily load with a 3wt line on it; particularly, if you like to fish double-taper line. As those ... morewatching my recent auctions may have noted. I am starting to parcel out some of the more difficult"say-goodbye-to" rods in my collection and you'll see only the best of what I have accumulated remaining. This rod is one of those and I would put it up against ANY line short line graphite fly rod- that would be rods 7'6" or shorter. It is butter smooth. Oh so light in hand and truly flexes with the supple wiggle small water fisher-folk treasure. This is not the same as the short 6'6" or 7'0" LL that fooled you ending up being too stiff- this rod has wiggle and it has that progressive taper that traditionalists revere. If you are a fan of the short-length WT, you will LOVE this rod. Rod comes- as pictured. Without a tube or sock, as it spent the majority of it's life in a reel-on-rod case, which is precisely where I suggest the winning bidder keep it. You are bidding on a used Samick Sage takedown recurve. RH model, 45# 28" draw. Good string included and 6 Gold Tip 55/75 arrows with 175gr tips tuned to this bow. The bow has a flipper rest installed and leather strike plate but is tapped for plunger and sights/arrow quiver. A name we all know, but is manufactured in Japan(reel) and Scotland(rod) The rod is 8’6” in length and breaks down into 2 pieces. The condition of the rod is fair. The reel seat is in good shape as is the cork(has a few pockets) but the finish is where I would use the“fair” term. There are some water marks here and there and some scratches present throughout the rod. I see some chipping in one small spot on the rod. All of this is not significant to the performance of the rod just more of an eye soar. I did take this rod out back and it cast very well. I would call it a med/fast action rod. A Rio Gold fly line would be a perfect fit. The reel looks brand new. I see absolutely ... morenothing that would indicate that this reel has ever been used. The drag is light but present. This older generation Graphite ... moreIII edition Sage GFL 890-3 RPLX Fly Rod indeed shows some signs of natural cosmetic wear and tear in the expected high traffic areas. As the photos show. The cork grip displays some staining from previous handling, and there are a few minor chips, small gouges, and bit of missing fill to be noted. While not as bright or as shiny as it once was new, the up-locking anodized aluminum reel seat still looks handsome and still functions perfectly too. A close inspection of the rod's glossy brown blank from tip to butt reveals the expected small usage marks in the typical high traffic areas. But otherwise shows no signs of catastrophic abuse like deep scratches, scores, or penetrating nicks that would in any way suggest the rod's original strength or integrity as compromised. A close review of the rod's guides does confirm a faint trace of tarnish and slight hint of oxidization around the base of both stripping guides(see pics! But no other greivances like grooving, deformation, or misalignment was found. A quick test-assembly and deep flexing confirms all ferrules as still snug fitting.
