The 389 LL is often thought of as one of the ten best fly rods ever made, and in my opinion the three piece has a way smoother action(closer to the two piece) than the 4 piece- I've owned both. Up for auction is a Sage B476SFL fiberglass fly rod from of my personal collection. This is a 2 piece rod. 4wt, 7'6" A little bit of history. Sage manufactured fiberglass rods from 1978/79-83. Sage started out in 1978 as Winslow. But later changed their name to Sage due to a similar name to Winston Rods. This being said my rod is silk-screened"Sage" so it was manufactured somewhere between 1979-83. My rod was manufactured as a blank, which is represented by the"B" It was"built up" by a rod builder from Saginaw, MI in the mid-80s. I don't know any history on the rod builder. I have personally fished the rod once. Other than that it hadn't been used in 20 yrs. Overall its in good condition. I am selling a bunch of custom rods from a guy that does about 20-30 per year. He does it for his therapy and then purges a bunch at a time. He does fish some of them. But there are so many, that no one man can put that many hours on that many rods. He learned to wrap rods from the local fly shop owner and rod builder, so he knows all of the tricks of the trade and has improved on some. He specializes in larger, saltwater rods, so they are built better than any factory rod and uses top end components. Most of the rods have at least two, if not three stripper guides. He seals the cork grips to protect from body oils, dirt and fish slime, which is why most of the cork is slightly off color. He also reimburses the ferrules on most of the rods with thread wraps the length of the ferrule. Silver fittings are moderately tarnished but no apparent dents/breaks; cork is somewhat soiled but complete and otherwise in great shape. Rest of rod is in just great shape. SAGE 5126-4 Z-AXIS Spey, Two Handed, Fly Rod
Up for Bids today we have a nice example of a Sage Z-axis 5126-4 Spey rod. That is a 12 foot 6 inch rod that casts a 5 weight Spey line. This rod is in excellent used condition with no scratches on the blank and a very minor mark on the reel seat. The cork is sound and is only slightly discolored. This 5 weight spey rod is great for Summer Steelhead or large Trout fishing out west. As well as summer grilse in the Atlantic. I used a RIO AFS 4/5 head on this rod and it would cast great.
