Wedgwood Jasperware Sage Green ~ Set of 4 Tea Cups and Saucers ~ Mint ~ 1956
This auction is for a Set of Four(4) Wedgwood Jasperware Sage Green Cups and Saucers from 1956. They are full size and not demitasse. These are in Mint ~ Pristine Condition having no chips. Nicks, fleabites, cracks, scratches, crazing, restorations, water sickness or stains. There is no missing relief and the raised white relief is not discolored. They also do not have any of those pesky little gray marks often found on Jasperware. There is also no shelf wear present. These are as close to perfect as you will find. The only reason I am not marking these as new is due to their age and I do not have the original boxes. If you desire new. There are several authorized Wedgwood websites that are offering sets of 6 in different colors for $1450.00 and single cups and saucers for $235.00 each. The measurements are as follows: Saucers: 5 1/2" ... morein diameter x 7/8” tall with an indented ring for the cup being 1 7/8” diameter and the underside base rim being 2 3/4” in diameter. Cups: 3 1/4" in diameter x 2 1/4" tall with a base rim being 1 3/4" in diameter. They are 4” wide when including the handle and the handle is 1 3/4" long and extends out from the cup body 3/4" They hold 4 ounces properly and if filled to the brim. 6 ounces. The Saucers have 6 different Cupid scenes portrayed but they are not in the same order. The scenes depicted on the Cups are Sacrifice figures and again. They are not in the same order. The Cups have a high gloss interior finish and they just gleam. So much so that we had difficulty photographing. Their shine created a bit of glare with the flash from the camera. The outside of the cups are a matte finish as well as the saucers. The Saucers are not totally flat but have a bit of a lip or curvature. The Saucers are marked“Wedgwood ~ Made in England” ~“1956” Two of the Saucers have the letters“BO” One Saucer has“IA” and the other Saucer has either a“B or 8” and there is something else very faint. A lovely vintage- purchased in England circa early 1980s- Aynsley English Bone china Cup and Saucer- sage green with white and gold gilt- hidden hand painted Pink Roses with silver and gold gilt leaf design in the interior A footed sage green cup with gold gilt trim pink roses hand paint interior. I am not an expert in the various terms for Ansley china. But it does not appear to be a corset shape(not skinny enough at the base) and the handle differs from those referred to as a crocus shape– This shape appears to be a bit different– and both pieces have a gold gilt signed code on the base. Markings: Crown logo Est 1775 Aynsley Made In England Fine English Bone China with gold gilt signed code of 2964 t on the cup– the gold gilt code on the base of the saucer has either faded. It's 4.5" long, 3.25" wide and approx. 2.25" at its tallest. There are white jasperware scenes featuring winged cherubs or cupids and Greco-Roman style scenes. It's in very nice condition with no chips, cracks or breaks. My guess is it dates to the mid 1950s. I purchased this at an estate auction.
