1962 Woodblock (?) of 1767 map of St. Croix Virgin Islands quality print
Purchased from an estate-here is a map of St. Croix. Virgin Islands, that appears to be a quality woodblock reproduction of a map originally done in 1767. I'm guessing the block print was done in 1962 based on information written on the back side in pencil. The map measures 19 inches by23.75 inches. At the corners are pinholes, and there are creases from being rolled and handled in the past. But it's obvious the paper is high quality-I can see watermarks(the capital letters INGRES in the lower right corner, and a logo of three small crowns inside a crowned circle with"TUMBA" below it. The penciled note on the back side reads(as best as I can make out) S. Christian. St. Thomas VI 1962, Print ca'62 from original block Chris Emerson purchase. I'm not sure who Chris Emerson is-artist or buyer. Appears this was produced ... morecirca 1962 from a wood block? There are two fabric"tags" at the top of the back side. There are a few small faint stains on the front and back, most being pinprick in size but one faint one about the size of a dime in the top margin.
