JULIUS VOM HOFE Antique Reel manufactured October 8. 1889 Patent November 17th. 1885 with custom made surfcasting rod- sectioned hardwood and metal from the estate of a family's Summer home circa 1900 in Boothbay Harbor. Maine each interlocking section approx. 35" long Still has old line intact on reel The Julius vom Hofe Company was established in 1857. That was 10 years before his brother Edward established his business. He received several patents and became one of the most prolific reel makers. The first Julius vom Hofe patent was on November 26. 1867. It was for the bridge over the drive gear inside the reel. His next patent was for the reel end plates being made of hard rubber with metal protective bands. This patent was granted on November 17, 1885. The other common patent date seen on his reels is October 8, 1889. This was ... morefor a rear spool bearing steel pivot and washer. Julius was one of the most prolific reel designers with 9 patents granted to him. One of his most important patents was granted on March 21, 1911 for the B-Ocean star drag. His last patent was granted on May 20, 1924 for a reduced cost reel. His models range from the highest quality solid nickel silver(German silver) reels to less expensive nickel plated brass and hard rubber reels. All of his reels are sought by collectors. His earliest pre-patent date reels were the ball handle style and had a distinctive clover leaf logo stamped in the reel's head plate. Julius vom Hofe made reels for a number of Sporting Goods dealers and marked them with his name and that of the company. This included companies like Thos. J. Conroy in NY. Abbey& Imbrie in NY and von Lengerke& Detmold in NY.

The Rod has been used and we got it at an Estate Sale in Downeast Maine. The Line guide on the Tip of the rod is missing. There is a small crack in the metal connector in the center of the rod and the Adjustment knob where the reel(reel NOT included) connects needs to freed. The metal parts have Patina and slight corrosion from use in Salt water. The Rubber End on the Handle(removable) has cracks and wear. Vintage Kingfisher 66" Octagon wooden Surf Rod for Repair
You are looking at a 2 pc. wooden octagon shaped surf rod with a turned wooden handle. This piece together is about 66" in length from the bottom rubber bulb to the tip. It is constructed of octagon shaped material that is stiff and about 3/4" thick at the base. It attaches to a turned hardwood handle. There is an aluminum seat for the reel with a turn screws at the base for tightening. There is one(two sided) eye on the way to the straight eye on the tip. Eyes are plastic lined. The sticker is still on the rod and it is in good condition except for the sleeves that join the rod. Although they work. Vintage 2 Piece Thick WOOD FISHING ROD 96" Heavy Twine wrapped handle, Surf Boat
Here is a neat old vintage solid and thick wood fishing rod. I do not see any manufacturers ID but I have seen a different rod. Similar to this one, that was marked"BG" 2 piece. Total length is about 96 inches. All 4 of the line guides. Including the tip, are good and securely mounted. Line guides are secured with a thick/heavy string/twine. One eye has a loose string top and bottom but still secure and should be esay repair. The handle is about 18 inches long and is very nicely wrapped with heavy cord/string also. Has a plastic butt cap. Reel seat screw and clamp are both good I do not see any serious damage nor repairs. See all 9 photos for cosmetic condition. Some wear and aging from handling and use but overall quite nice condition. I do not know how old it is but it is vintage. It is a neat looking an unusual vintage fishing ... morecollectable. I throw 6 oz and use 17lb line with this rod. The rod has been cut down to 11' 2" so one inch off butt and top half, The rod has been rebuilt to like new condition, it has all new Fuji SIC gun smoke titanium coated cast guides 9 total, guides measure#30, 25, 20, 3- 16, and 3-12, it has a matching tip top#12-11, it has a new 7 1/2" butt wrap metallic white with metallic lime green and nylon black double diamond pattern, shark decal, it has new 8" cork wrap fore grip, rear cork is in good condition and didn't need replacing, new butt cap, Fuji#24 reel seat silver hood was also not replaced, the rod halves measure butt 5' 8 3/8" ... moreand the top 5' 9 1/4" the rear cork handle measures 18 1/2" from butt to the bottom of the reel seat, there are no marks to indicate that this is a Lamiglas. I am the builder and purchased this blank new and have proof. There are no scuff marks or scratches on the blank. It does show some signs of use at the ferrule. This is from my personal collection. Beautiful rod! I cannot see a makers name but the reel seat. Guides, and tippet all look comparable to the quality nickel hardware of the Von Hofe rods. Rod should be refinished as the existing varnish is too heavy and a bit rough. 7 ft 3 in long and a true vintage masterpiece. Reel seat/butt section separates from the hexagonal bamboo rod via a nice large ferrule. Listing includes the pictured Pflueger Sea-Vue reel. Some plating is worn from the male ferrule section.
