OCT. 8, 1889" This reel has a hard rubber front and rear body with a metal plate attached to the front face. The spool, pillars, body plates, and foot are nickel plated brass in good condition. I see some brass on the spool sides and the foot. The handle knob is hard rubber. It is quite possible some parts are German Silver, such as the rosette washers and screws. There is a clicker controlled by a slide button on the rear plate. It is in good working condition and good overall condition. There is one scratch on the rim of the rear plate in the hard rubber. You are bidding on a beautiful vintage Pflueger Medalist by Shakespeare 1495 CJ single action fly fishing reel in its complete original box and with its original set of instructions. Made in Japan the reel is in excellent condition with no rash. Dents or marks. It comes with the stainless steel line guard to prevent rubbing on the side plates. The rod has 13/16” pillars. A 3 5/8” plate and weighs 6 oz. Mechanically it’s in excellent condition. The reel is spooled but I don’t know the rating of the line. The exterior of the box is in good to very good condition with some of the graphics missing. But is unusual in that it still has the internal Styrofoam packing material cut to fit the reel and the Pflueger emblem stuck on it. The instructions are in excellent condition and provide a wealth of information about this reel and other fly reels ... morethat Pflueger made. But is acutually two-directional and has a strong clicker. The downside is some missing paint finish. The spool, turns freely and smoothly. The reel's measurements are 3 3/8" diameter x 1 3/8" I/D I believe this reel to be produced in the late 1930's or perhaps in the 1940's.

Up for auction is this like new 1965 Pflueger Superex Model No. 755 Automatic Fly Reel. This reel looks new. It has the fly line already wound on, but it appears to have never been used. I wound the spring up and pulled the trigger and it works great, the line retreived very smoothly. It is lightweight{9 oz. and is designed for quick take-apart. It holds 32 yards of"C" line. Retrieves 24 yards of line per spring wind. Free stripping clutch allows more line to go out after spring is wound to capacity. Handsome aluminum anodized housing with stainless steel crossplate, line guide, and axle. Brass gears and stainless steel pinion. On the back there is an engraved brass plate with"C. F. ORVIS, MAKER, MANCHESTER, VT. PATENTED MAY 12th, 1874" From the Internet: In 1874 Orvis received a patent on a new design in fly reels. Patent Number 150.883 is now regarded as a milestone in American fishing tackle history. The 1874 reel was in some ways a major break with previous reel design. Its spool was narrow, quite unlike most fly reels then in use. The perforations on the side plates, which lightened the reel considerably, permitted air circulation through the line when it was on the spool. As the patent claimed, A current of air is continually forcing itself through the wound-up line, ... moreand all mildew and rot thereby avoided, as under these circumstances the line soon becomes thoroughly dried. Actually. Neither the narrow spool nor the line ventilation were new What was new was mounting the narrow spool upright in the traditional reel position, as modern fly reels are mounted. Worthy of any bamboo rod past or present- fully functional and a thing of real beauty- this one is in superb shape with a wonderful wear on the patina. The reel is nice and tight- turns beautifully- shows very little wear on the inside as you can see from the pictures- the agate line guard shows no wear. Cracks or dents- if you collect Hardy's this reel should be in your collection. The pictures tell the story- this reel needs a good home.
