Antique Vintage English 4" Brass salmon fly reel
You are bidding on an antique/vintage English Brass Salmon reel. 4" in diameter, stamped inside with the engraving"S&W" with six brass pillars, the full brass foot mounted o.nto two of those brass pillars, most probably circa WWI, as when the war broke out, all of the brass was committed to the military to make shell casings. The spool is mounted on an axil with a finely machined brass screw. The reel is set for Right Hand Wind or Left Hand Wind. The reel is in very fine condition and has a loud click drag which would clearly announce the arrival of a fine salmon. Very rare Abu Record Standard fly reel in stunning condition. At least Excellent ++ to Near Mint, with superb box and a fine. Rare instruction sheet in Swedish/ English language. 3 1/2 inch across. A standard trout size in the late 40´s or early 50´s when it was made, just before the introduction of the Record Ambassadeur. The legendary baitcaster from Abu. One of the finest samples to come to market in recent years. Possibly unfished, or used gently once or twice. fixed check. Right hand wind, reminds me of the J.W Young reels, but much more rare, since Abu just had started their rise to fame in these days these reels where made. Here is a brand new Scientific Anglers System 8 Fly Reel. In the 1970's SA offered this new reel made by HARDY BROTHERS in England. This reel has the exposed spool rim to assist with drag control. May have been the first reel offered with that feature. After a few years this reel was no longer offered by SA, Hardy Brothers of England offered it as the Marquis fly reel series. Spools are interchangeable. This SA System 8 Fly Reel is designed for trout fishing. The drag system is spring& pawl, the spool is easily changed from right to left hand wind. I don't have a clue what this is but i have had it over 30 years. It is about 2 1/2" high and the foot is 2 3/4" long. It has a strong clicker and it came in an old wooden box with a billinghurst reel and a kentucky reel and some others that were early but no names. I never showed it so i don't have a clue what it is. It appears to be one of the top makers like vomhofe but there are no markings at all. It is a super nice reel. The screws all look hand made. This is a nice vintage James Heddon's Sons Winona side mount fly reel manufactured in Dowagiac. Mich. It is free and operates smoothly, not bent or damaged. It measures 4-3/4" diameter and is 3-1/8" wide from mount to end of handles. Wonderful addition to a vintage fishing collection or quite usable if so desired. James Heddon started the lure company in 1902 but died in 1911. His sons changed the name to James Heddon's Sons that year and continued making lures. Called"Flick-Em" 3 5/8" in diameter, with twin ivorine crank hans, both of which show some crazing, the spool on a centerpin, with a ventilated face, smooth full brass foot, spoked drum interior, rear optional check button, Right Hand Wind, reversable, very good center screw, the rear plte retaining much of it's black leaded finish, which is an ideal trout size spool, probably a WF 3-4 fly line. This reel is in marvelous condition given it's age of shortly after WW II. The check drag is firm and loud and would clearly announce the arrival of a fine pescatore. Up for bid is one Vintage Hard Rubber& German Silver Fly Reel single action- J. B. CROOK& CO. MAKER, N. Y. This reel is marked on the front hard rubber plate with"J. B. CROOK, MAKER, N. Y. On the bottom of the foot it is marked with"60" This reel has a hard rubber front and rear body face. The spool. Pillars, rims, and foot are German Silver. There is a clicker controlled by a slide button on the rear plate. It is in good working condition and good overall condition with the exception of two cracks in the front hard rubber plate, one running between the two screws and the second running about 5/8" from the right screw(see photos) The cracks appears old and do not affect the operation of the reel. The rear bearing cap looks as though it should have a jewel in the center, but has just a hole. Could have a missing ... morejewel. The handle has a hard rubber knob. Overall. The reel is in good working condition. Doing a little research I found that by the late 1880s J. B. CROOK& Co. was buying from other manufacturers and selling under their name. The actual manufacturer is not known. It measures 2-1/8" diameter. 2-5/16" deep including the handle, and has a foot measuring 2-3/4" long by 9/16" wide. It measures 2-3/16" diameter, 2-11/16" deep including the handle, and has a foot measuring 2-9/16" long by 9/16" wide. On the bottom of the foot the number"80" is inscribed. It weighs 5.6 ounces. The plating is good condition with some light surface scratches from normal use(see photos) There is a clicker controlled by a slide button on the back plate and adjustable drag control through a second slide button on the rear plate. It is in good working condition. Although it seems a little sluggish when the clicker is engaged. The handle appears to have a ivory colored wood knob. On the handle side face plate it is marked"PORTAGE" above a trade mark logo of a fish jumping at sunrise. Then"TRADE MARK" written below, and"ATLAS, MADE IN U.S.A. below. It measures 1-7/8" diameter, ... more3" deep including the handle, and has a foot measuring 2-9/16" long by 5/8" wide. On the bottom of the foot the numbers"60" is inscribed. Vintage fly reel manufactured in Torrington Conn. by the Union Hardware Co. Reel is marked Sunnybrook just above the union hdwe name. Reel is in quite good condition considering its age. Brass is attractive. With a nice patina and no scratches or marks clearly noticeable.
