This was found in the attic of the farm house and after I made the deal for the rod the man running the sale said that" I might as well have dad's old reel that went along with it. What a find. Having said that the rod is a Wright& McGill" Deluxe" model 4A 8 1/2' fly rood in great condition. Tight wraps. No rash, clean cork, original tube and priced to sell. THIS ROD WAS HARDLY USED. The reel is a Pemco# 85 made by the Perrine Mfg Co. Minneapolis, Minn. It is in perfect working condition, guaranteed. It even looks good. The cork grip looks like someone may have sanded the surface, but it looks good. All three sections of the rod measure 37" long. It has"Sport King, 92-9' painted on the blank, which is a Montgomery Wards brand, made for them by the Montague Rod& Reel Co in Mass. Vintage Barney&Berry Fly Reel by Winchester Firearms 1924-1930 unknown Model# functionally intact I had little success chasing down this reel on the net; but from what I gathered. Was made between 1924 and 1930 by Winchester Firearms. With the probable exception of the hand crank'knob' it seems to be all original and genuine. All I did was brush it lightly with a soft bristle paint brush to clean it of some dust and light grime. Photos 1& 2 show both sides of the body while Photo 3 displays the mfr stamp. The only other identifying stamp would be a'50' on the bottom of the foot(Photo 8) And Photos 4& 5 are a bottom view and top view. While Photo 6 shows the waxy/greasy spindle with some braided nylon line still attached. And Photo 8 shows the problematic crank'knob' Which looks to be small dia. copper pipe ... morewith a sec uring screw. It does spin freely and smoothly however. Photo 9 is the worn area of the foot where the clamp secured the reel to a rod. And Photo 10 simply shows the worn paint and. Hopefully, the still sound metal of the body. Overall. I'd say this is a'restoration' piece if someone has the essential knob parts and'as-new' paints. For this reason, I refrained from touching it beyond brushing it down. It weighs 4 1/2 oz.
